The board of directors at WPX Energy Inc. (NYSE: WPX) appointed J. Kevin Vann as the company’s interim senior vice president and CFO, WPX Energy said March 18, noting that Vann replaces Rod Sailor in the roles. The company also noted that Vann currently serves as vice president, controller and CAO.

Sailor resigned as both senior vice president and CFO, effective March 31, the company added, noting that Vann will also replace Sailor as director for Apco Oil and Gas International Inc. (NasdaqCM: APAGF).

“I’m pleased that we have a strong bench of finance and accounting personnel. Kevin’s financial experience in stewardship will help us to further strengthen the WPX portfolio of oil and natural gas properties. We look forward to working with and benefiting from Kevin’s experience,” said WPX Energy president and CEO Jim Bender.

In 2006, Vann had been controller for Williams Companies Inc.’s (NYSE: WMB) exploration and production (E&P) business before it spun off as WPX Energy, the company said, noting that he had previously worked for Arthur Andersen LLP in Tulsa, Okla. before joining Williams in 1998.

Vann graduated from Oklahoma State University, the company said.

Tulsa-based WPX Energy produces natural gas, oil and NGL from domestic unconventional areas.
