Magnum Hunter Resources has the southeastern-most well in the entire Utica play--the Stuart Winland well in Tyler County, W. Va. It was one of the largest wells reported, CEO Gary Evans said at Hart Energy's recent DUG East conference. The Utica extends farther south, and projects will be deeper. The main concern is "hitting volcanics--you're going to have H2S or CO2 or all the nasties that come with a deeper horizon."
