DENVER—Schlumberger Ltd. (NYSE: SLB) launched a new user interface and toolset for exploiting shale resources. The system, Petrel Shale, is designed to optimize operations and increase capital efficiency, the company stated.
“Integration of shale workflows is critical to improve the success of the asset,” Uwem Ukpong, president of Schlumberger Information Solutions, said at the Unconventional Resources Technology Conference (URTeC). “Petrel Shale has been specifically designed to address the integration challenge from exploration to production. By providing efficient geological and geophysical map-based evaluations, our customers can expedite decision making, streamline their operations and maximize returns.”
For the first time, geoscientists can integrate geological, geophysical and production data to define sweet spots, automatically plan well locations and analyze production trends, according to the company.
The system is designed to give users a greater understanding of how production relates to geology by linking the data and disciplines, Schlumberger said. Acreage is assessed by incorporating published data and comprehensive well database analysis.
The URTeC conference, held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, ends Aug. 27.
