Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSEXOM) has announced the election of Ursula M. Burns to its board of directors, effective November 27, 2012. Burns is chairman and chief executive officer of Xerox Corporation.

With the election of Burns, the ExxonMobil board will stand at 12 directors, including 11 non-employee directors.

Burns was named president of Xerox and elected to the company’s board of directors in 2007. She was named chief executive officer in 2009 and became chairman in 2010.

Burns earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Polytechnic Institute of NYU and a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University.

She serves on the board of the American Express Corp. and provides leadership counsel to numerous community, educational and non-profit organizations including FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), National Academy Foundation, MIT and the U.S. Olympic Committee, among others. She is a founding board director of Change the Equation, which focuses on improving the U.S. education system in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). In 2010, Ms. Burns was appointed vice chair of the President’s Export Council.
