1 First Goldwater Resources Inc., Vancouver, reports a Fresno County, Calif., exploratory well in which it has an 8% working interest is to be production tested. Located in the Pleasant Valley Field area in Section 21-20s-16e MD, the indicated discovery is the #1-1 Coalinga Nose (operated by Woodland, Calif.-based Production Specialties Co. and permitted as the #1-21 Olympic Coalinga). Pipe was set after the prospect was drilled through 355 ft. of the target Brown Mountain Sand to a total depth of 11,167 ft. and encountered 124 ft. of net pay as indicated by mud logs. Numerous gas and oil shows were found in the secondary target of Moreno sands. The operator is preparing to test Brown Mountain in a sidetrack hole, which yielded even better gas shows than the original well and has pipe set at a total depth of 11,200 ft. First Goldwater notes one of the main partners in the project is Greka Energy, with a 25% working interest. 2 A discovery completed by EOG Resources Inc., Houston, in Utah has been finaled for a flow of 863,000 cu. ft. of gas per day on a 16/64-in. choke through three sets of perforations between 6,180-6,225 ft in Lower Cretaceous Cedar Mountain. IHS Energy Group says EOG's well is the #42-24 Middle Canyon-Federal in Section 24-16s-23e, Grand County. 3 Utah's San Juan County is the site of the #7-15 Headwaters-Federal, a remote wildcat scheduled by Anschutz Exploration Corp., Denver. Projected depth and objectives were not disclosed. The drillsite is in Section 15-28s-23e, about 12 miles east-southeast of Lion Mesa Field and a similar distance north-northwest of Lisbon Field. 4 An Ordovician Red River "C" burrowed zone, perforated at 12,532-39 ft., was tapped for a flow of 268 bbl. of oil, 220,000 cu. ft. of gas and 31 bbl. of water at the #1-6 Edith-Fee that was completed by Chesapeake Operating Inc. as a half-mile northwest extension of Montana's Sioux Pass West Field. The Oklahoma City firm drilled the outpost in Lot 1 of Section 6-25n-57e, Richland County. 5 Bonneville Fuels Corp., Denver, has spudded the #8-28-14-25 Flat Willow-Federal, a remote wildcat in Section 28-14n-25e, Petroleum County, Mont. According to IHS Energy Group, the venture has a target depth of 2,503 ft. in Mississippian Heath. Objectives include Lower Cretaceous Cat Creek and Pennsylvanian Amsden and Tyler. There is no producing well within 15 miles of the project. 6 A northwest offset to a discovery completed by Questar Exploration & Production Co. in Wyoming's Sublette County has been finaled by the company flowing 4.336 million cu. ft. of gas, 36 bbl. of condensate and 72 bbl. of water per day. Seven Upper Cretaceous Lance intervals between 9,688-12,992 ft. were tested on a 24/64-in. choke at the #4-32V Stewart Point in Section 32-33n-109w. Questar's discovery-the #6-32V Stewart Point-was completed a little more than a year ago as a Lance producer. 7 The EOG Resources Inc. #1-19 Crotalus, Section 19-38n-75w, Converse County, Wyo., is a successful stepout about 0.75-mile east-northeast of Snake Charmer Field, according to reports from the area. The reports say the extension was tested flowing about 250 bbl. of oil per day from Cretaceous Frontier at approximately 12,800 ft. The company has disclosed no details about the well that was set up as a 13,000-ft. test of Frontier. 8 Two new pay zones in Paleocene Fort Union have been added to a well completed a little more than two years ago by Double Eagle Petroleum & Mining Co. at the #1 Allen Deep in Section 26-39n-90w, Fremont County, Wyo. IHS Energy Group says the company recently placed the well back into production flowing 2 million cu. ft. of gas per day from the two new zones, perforated between 11,230-11,360 ft., and the original Fort Union pay zone between 11,681-11,718 ft. According to Casper-based Double Eagle, prior to the workover the well's original Fort Union interval was producing about 800,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. 9 Amoco Production Co. extended Bitter Creek Field in Sweetwater County, Wyo., when it gauged a flow of 1.822 million cu. ft. of gas per day at the #23-2 Bitter Creek in Section 23-16n-99w. Three Cretaceous Mesaverde intervals between 10,885- 11,348 ft. gave up the flow on a 30/64-in. choke. The stepout is a half-mile east of the field opener, which is now abandoned. 10 Other exploratory activity in Sweetwater County includes an indicated discovery where pipe is set and two wildcats where drilling is under way, reports IHS Energy Group. Yates Petroleum Corp., Artesia, N.M., set production casing through the Almond member of Mesaverde at the 17,300-ft. #1 Wrangler-Federal in Section 19-14n-98w. The wildcat originally was scheduled to 14,500 ft. for tests of Cretaceous and Jurassic zones. The wildcats are being drilled by Amoco Production Co. and Denver-based AEC Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. Amoco is drilling at 10,100 ft. on the way to a target depth of 11,720 ft. at the #13-16 Whale in Section 16-25n-106w. Lance and Mesaverde are the objective formations. Meanwhile, the Rocky Mountain Oil Journal notes AEC is drilling the #8-14 Julia-Federal, a 12,600-ft Upper Cretaceous Hilliard test in Section 14-14n-111w. The publication notes AEC has scheduled four other wildcats in Sweetwater County, with the latest one staked being the #12-36 Caleb-State in Section 36-15n-110w. 11 Sawyer Oil & Gas Inc. has moved in rotary tools to drill the #1 Oak in Section 34-32s-49w, Baca County, Colo. It's a remote wildcat with a projected depth of approximately 3,900 ft., sufficient to evaluate the gas potential of Pennsylvanian Morrow and Keyes, and Mississippian zones. 12 Houston independent Bois d'Arc Offshore Ltd. has staked three New Mexico wildcats in recent weeks on the southeastern flank of the San Juan Basin. The most recent one is the #15-1 Bois d'Arc-Encino in Section 15-20n-5w, McKinley County. Cretaceous Dakota is to be tested to a depth of about 5,250 ft. In an area approximately three to four miles northwest and north, Bois d'Arc has made locations for two wildcats in Sandoval County. Both Mesaverde tests, they are the 3,810-ft. #22-1 Bois d'Arc-Divide in Section 22-21n-5w and 3,160-ft. #33-1 Bois d'Arc-Cejita Blanca in Section 33-21n-5w. 13 Phillips Alaska Inc. plans to drill four North Slope wildcats in the Colville River Delta area, according to IHS Energy Group. Two of them are in Township 11n-4e, Umiat Meridian-they are the #5 Nanuq in Section 24 and #3 Sunrise in Section 29. The remaining two ventures are the #1 Callisto in Section 5-10n-5e and #1 Ganymede in Section 3-10n-4e. The four tests are on Kuukpik Corp. lands in an area four to seven miles south and southwest of Alpine Field, where Phillips and Anadarko Petroleum Corp. are developing oil reserves in the Alpine Sand member of Kingak between 6,800-7000 ft. At the southern end of Alaska, Phillips is drilling a Cook Inlet extended-reach directional wildcat at the #1 Hansen in the company's Cosmopolitan Project. Scheduled to 18,500 ft. (true vertical depth is estimated at 7,000 ft.), it's being drilled from a surface location in Section 2-4s-15w, Seward Meridian, to a proposed offshore bottomhole location in Section 32-3s-15w. 14 The #1 Sak River, Section 1-12n-12e, Umiat Meridian, is a wildcat planned by BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. for the North Slope's Sakonowyak River Unit in Gwydyr Bay at the mouth of the Sakonowyak River. The new unit is made up of approximately 11,520 acres. While the surface location is not within the unit, the proposed offshore bottomhole location on a state lease owned by Alaska Venture Capital Group and BP will be.
