1 Howard Energy Corp., Mount Carmel, Ill., is preparing to drill to 7,000 ft. in Cambrian at the #1 Shaglee Unit, a wildcat in Section 5-5s-4w, Perry County, Ill. According to IHS Energy Group, the closest existing production is six miles northwest in Tilden Field, an active 2,150-ft. Silurian oil pool. Eight miles southeast of Howard's location, in Section 28-5s-3w, a 7,057-ft. dry hole was drilled into Precambrian in 1975. The failure was neither cored nor drillstem-tested. 2 Calgary independent Range Petroleum Corp. recovered oil at daily rates in excess of 100 bbl. during production tests at a Silurian Niagaran wildcat in Macomb County, Mich. Range's apparent discovery is the #1-20 Richards in Section 20-4n-14e, Lenox Township. The 3,170-ft. prospect has pipe set at 3,162 ft. Testing continues at the #1-20 Richards, in which Range holds a 22.5% working interest. Centrica Canada Ltd. also holds an interest in the well. 3 Savoy Energy LP and Savoy Exploration Inc., Traverse City, Mich., have announced successful horizontal redevelopment results on two northern Michigan Niagaran reefs. The activity is in Cleon 19 Field in Manistee County and West Albert 22 Field in Montmorency County. The Cleon 19 Field activity involves the #4-19 HD-1 State Cleon and #1-19B State Cleon, both in Section 19-24n-13w, Cleon Township. The former was drilled approximately 625 ft. horizontally at a true vertical depth of 5,275 ft. in Brown Niagaran. It was returned to production on pump making 156 bbl. of oil and 64,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. The latter was drilled about 1,260 ft. horizontally at a true vertical depth of 5,252 ft. in the same formation. It was returned to production on pump at 141 bbl. of oil and 40,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. In West Albert 22 Field, 100 miles to the east, the #2-22 Rood, Section 22-29n-1e, Albert Township, was horizontally drilled about 2,400 ft. at a true vertical depth of approximately 6,507 ft. Also in the field, the #1-22B Savoy & Hubbel and #1-21 Champine et al. were similarly horizontally redrilled. All of the wells were completed following acid treatment. 4 Columbus-based Hopco Resources is drilling toward a projected depth of 5,400 ft. in Cambrian Rose Run at the #1 Moore Gault Unit, a deeper-pool wildcat in Ohio's Rine Corners Field. IHS Energy Group reports the test is in Section 7, Pike Township, Perryton Quad, Coshocton County. Meanwhile, several miles to the north in Wayne County, Columbia Natural Resources Inc. has staked a Cambrian deeper-pool test at the #724644 Metcalf in Lakeville Field. The company plans to evaluate Trempealeau to a depth of 5,800 ft. at the venture in Section 19, Clinton Township, Shreve Quad. Both fields have production from Silurian Clinton. 5 The Ordovician Trenton-Black River play in New York has received a boost, with two new wildcats being scheduled by Charleston, W.Va., firms. Columbia Natural Resources Inc. is set to drill to 8,400-ft. at the #624468 Gray in Section B of Rheims Quad, Prattsburg Township, Steuben County. Several miles to the northeast in Seneca County, Eastern American Energy Corp. staked the #1 Ziefle in Section E of Trumansburg Quad, Covert Township. The venture has a projected depth of 7,500 ft. 6 Remote exploration is to be carried out in Pennsylvania's Somerset County, according to IHS Energy Group. Mid-East Oil Co., Indiana, Pa., has staked four Upper Devonian wildcats on its Walker lease. The #1 test, in Section F of Meyersdale Quad, Summit Township, is to be drilled to 7,000 ft., while other three ventures on the lease are scheduled to go to 6,000 ft. The lease is about 10 miles southwest of the nearest production in Shamrock Field. 7 Four deeper-pool wildcats have been staked by Jay-Bee Production Co., Union, N.J., in West Virginia, all scheduled to be drilled to 21,000 ft. to Precambrian, reports IHS Energy Group. In the Auburn Field area of Doddridge County, the company plans to drill the #4 Czigans in Southwest District, Auburn Quad, and the #2A Spurgeon in Cove District, Oxford Quad. Neighboring Ritchie County is to see the other two tests-the #10 Smith and #32 Zinn, both in Union District, Burnt House Quad. Also in Ritchie County, another 21,000-ft. test to Precambrian has been scheduled for the Auburn Field area. It's the Be-Tro Inc. #2 Pierce in Union District, Oxford Quad. Be-Tro is based in Glenville, W.Va. 8 Columbia Natural Resources Inc. is slated to drill two exploratory tests in central West Virginia. They are the #624717 Moyers, a new-field wildcat in Otter District, Gassaway Quad, Braxton County, and the #624771 Cutlip, a deeper-pool wildcat in Otter District, Strange Creek Quad, Clay County. The former is set up as a 12,500-ft. Trenton-Black River probe, while the latter is a scheduled 15,000-ft. test to basement rock. 9 Drilling is under way at the Evan Energy Co. #742 Black Mountain Land Co. in extreme western Virginia's Lee County. The Kingsport, Tenn., firm's new-field wildcat, scheduled to be drilled to about 5,900 ft. to evaluate Devonian, is in Rocky Station District, Pennington Gap Quad. 10 Alabama's Escambia County is the site of a discovery completed by Pruet Production Co., Jackson, Miss., flowing 347 bbl. of oil, 683,000 cu. ft. of gas and nine bbl. of water per day from Jurassic Smackover. The Southeastern Oil Review reports Pruet tested the wildcat-the #1 ATIC 10-11 in Section 10-3n-7e-on a 10/64-in. choke through perforations at 13,960-66 ft. Cobra Oil & Gas Corp., Wichita Falls, Texas, is a partner of Pruet in the discovery. Pruet is working on another wildcat in Escambia County, the #1 ATIC 8-5 nearly a mile north of Robinson Creek Field in Section 8-3n-7e. Pipe has been set on bottom at 14,620 ft. to test shows found in Smackover. 11 Smackover is the objective formation at two new wildcats planned for Covington County, Ala., according to the Southeastern Oil Review. Dallas-based Ventex Operating Corp.'s #1 Federal 16-11, Section 16-2n-15e, has a projected depth of 12,500 ft. It's 3.5 miles south-southeast of Lower Cretaceous Lower Hosston oil production in Pleasant Home Field. Meanwhile, nearly two miles northeast of the field, Longleaf Energy Group Inc., Brewton, Ala., intends to drill to 12,000 ft at the #1 SMAK-Dixon 28-11 in Section 28-3n-15e. 12 Bright Star Management LLC drilled to a total depth of 13,093 ft. and is running logs at the #1 Kelly 16-2, a wildcat targeting Smackover in Conecuh County, Ala. The Southeastern Oil Review notes Bright Star, based in Jackson, Miss., drilled the exploratory venture in Section 16-5n-8e, about six miles northeast of East Corley Field. 13 ExxonMobil Corp. has set pipe at 21,765 ft. at the #4 State Lease 537, Tract 112, that bottomed at 21,805 ft. offshore Mobile County, Ala., says the Southeastern Oil Review. The prospect is a little less than a half-mile west-southwest of the Northwest Gulf Field discovery made by Exxon. The field opener, the #1 State 537, Tract 112, is a dual completion in Jurassic Norphlet. It flowed 1.394 million cu. ft. of gas per day on a 5.5/64-in. choke from the upper zone between 21,592-21,651 ft. The lower zone, at 21,762-84 ft., yielded 21.17 million cu. ft. of gas per day.
