1 Russell, Kan., independent Jason Oil Co. staked a wildcat about 10 miles west-northwest of Stockton in northern Kansas in northwestern Rooks County. The #1-6 Carpenter, in Section 6-7s-19w, will evaluate the Lansing-Kansas City and the Cambrian Reagan to a depth of 3,625 ft., according to IHS Energy. The prospect is a half-mile off the western flank of Locust Grove Field, which is currently inactive. Before it was abandoned in 1996 the field produced 947,000 bbl. of oil through perforations between 3,150 and 3,450 ft. in the Toronto, Lansing-Kansas City and Arbuckle. 2 Red Oak Energy Inc., Wichita, Kan., staked a wildcat on the Kansas section of the Las Animas Arch to look at Morrow Sand and Mississippian pay potential in Wallace County, about eight miles south-southwest of Sharon Springs. The company's #1-6 Popp/Smith, in Section 6-15s-40w, is projected to 5,200 ft. about 4.5 miles east-northeast of the closest production in Okeson Field. The discovery well in that field tested with an initial potential of seven bbl. of oil a day from Lower Morrow from 4,977 to 4,986 ft., produced 146 bbl. of oil during one month and was shut in. It reentered the well a year later, perforated the Upper Morrow from 4,953-74 ft. and found natural gas. From 2002 to January this year, the well produced 157 million cu. ft. of gas and 8,600 bbl. of condensate. A follow-up well in the same field tested at 2 million cu. ft. of gas a day, also from Upper Morrow. 3 The Fayetteville, Ark.-based Seeco Inc. unit of Southwestern Energy will drill a remote wildcat in the eastern Arkoma Basin three miles northeast of Rosebud, Ark., in southern Cleburne County. The #1-35 B. Carter, in Section 35-9n-10w, will be drilled to a total depth of 5,626 ft. and will evaluate the Lower Fayetteville shale. The test is nine miles east of abandoned Quitman Field. In that field, the #1 R.A. Evans tested at 5 million cu. ft. of gas a day and produced 49 million cu. ft. of gas before being abandoned in 1998. In the same county and 10 miles west, Seeco permitted the #1-31 Sneed wildcat in Section 31-9n-11w, also to Lower Fayetteville. 4 Chesapeake Operating Inc., Oklahoma City, staked a deep wildcat in the Anadarko Basin 5.5 miles west of Sayre, Okla., in Beckham County. The #1-28 Betty, in Section 28-10n-24w in New Liberty Southwest Field, is set to reach 19,800 ft. The site is 0.75-mile southeast of the #1-29 Stanley, which flowed 7.54 million cu. ft. of gas and 352 bbl. of water daily during preliminary tests from the Morrow-Springer between 18,819 and 18,933 ft. 5 Castle Rock, Colo., independent Citrus Energy Corp. broadened its exploration campaign in the northwestern Arkoma Basin in Oklahoma with a new 5,200-ft. wildcat almost six miles east of Dustin in McIntosh County. The #1-10 Campbell, in Section 10-9n-13e is scheduled to test Booch, Gilcrease, Cromwell, Hunton and Arbuckle zones. The closest production from those formations lies two miles west in Vernon Northwest Field, which produces gas from Thurman at about 500 ft., Booch at 1,800 ft., Gilcrease at 2,600 ft. and Mississippian Caney at 3,900 ft. Citrus drilled the #1-11H Campbell horizontal wildcat in Mississippian in Section 11-9n-13e in January. It drilled that well to a measured depth of 7,350 ft. and a true vertical depth of 3,960 ft. It hasn't yet released results of that test, according to IHS Energy. 6 Oklahoma issued a permit to Henrietta, Texas-based Woodall Geophysical Exploration to drill a western Jefferson County wildcat a mile south of Hastings, Okla. The #1 Charles Griffin, in Section 14-4s-9w, is planned to 3,000 ft., and is set to evaluate the Hoxbar and the Arbuckle between 2,400 and 2,800 ft. The #1 State is more than five miles southwest, and is the only well in Temple South Field. The well initially pumped nine bbl. of oil with 100 bbl. of water daily through perforations in the Arbuckle between 2,314-36 ft. Before it was abandoned it recovered more than 200 bbl. of crude, according to IHS Energy. 7 Roswell, N.M.-based Manzano Oil Corp. completed a wildcat 15 miles south-southeast of the town of Elida, N.M., in southwestern Roosevelt County. The #1 Brennan Federal Com, in Section 33-6s-33e, tested flowing 246 bbl. of 46-degree oil, 408,000 cu. ft. of gas, with no water, per day. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 650 psi on a 14/64-in. choke. Total depth of the well is 9,040 ft., and it is producing through perforations in the Pennsylvanian between 8,896 and 8,930 ft. More than a 1.5 miles southeast is Chaveroo North Field. According to IHS Energy, the #1 Big Stick Fee has recovered 11,657 bbl. of oil, 37.79 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 2,319 bbl. of water in the past year. 8 Marbob Energy Corp., Artesia, N.M., completed two new discoveries about 15 miles northwest of Carlsbad, N.M., in western Eddy County. The #1 Rio Siete Federal, in irregular Section 1-21s-24e, tested flowing 67 bbl. of oil and 274 bbl. of water daily from acid- and fracture-treated perforations between 7,003 and 7,244 ft. Total depth is 10,420 ft. and, according to IHS Energy, has been designated the Dead Man Draw Field opener. A mile west-northwest is the #2 Zonked State in Cemetery Southeast Field. The well pumped 458,000 cu. ft. of gas and two bbl. of water per day through perforations between 10,086 and 10,189 ft. Total depth is 10,330 ft. Cemetery Southeast Field, which opened in mid-2000, has had a cumulative production of 2.15 billion cu. ft. of gas, 4,499 bbl. of condensate and 71,418 bbl. of water. 9 Lane Operating Co., Wichita Falls, Texas, staked a North Texas wildcat in the Buffalo Springs East Field area in southeastern Clay County (RRC 9). The #1 Dixon, in Lot 59, Freestone County School Land Survey, A-144, about four miles southeast of the town of Buffalo Springs, Texas, is slated to reach 6,300 ft. to target the Atoka Conglomerate. Two-thirds of a mile northwest in Buffalo Springs Southeast Field is the #1 Workman "A," which has yielded 3.24 million cu. ft. of gas and 106 bbl. of condensate. 10 A discovery credited to Novo Exploration Corp., Hurst, Texas, tested for 40 bbl. of oil and 27 bbl. of water a day with no gas from the company's #1 Zeissel wildcat in Section 59, Block 2, D&W RR Survey, A-525, in southern Knox County, Texas (RRC 9). The well is more than a mile east-southeast of Knox City and tested from the Tannehill between 2,187-89 ft. after the company drilled to a total depth of 2,300 ft. Zeissel Field, a quarter-mile west in the same section, produces from deeper Strawn. The nearest Tannehill production is a third-mile northeast in Big Four Field. 11 Bettis, Boyle & Stovall, Graham, Texas, received a permit for a northeastern Hockley County, Texas, (RRC 8A) wildcat scheduled to 10,500 ft. about 3.5 miles east-southeast of Anton. The company's #1 Buck Gossett Oil Unit is in Section 102, Block A, R.M. Thomson Survey, A-53, a mile west of the Lubbock County boundary line. The nearest production from a similar depth is the #1 Puma, more than three miles southwest in Anton Southeast Field. That well was drilled to 10,075 ft. and has produced 39,044 bbl. of oil and 2.83 million cu. ft. of gas from Lower Leonard between 7,716-52 ft. It produced 404 bbl. of oil in January, according to IHS Energy. 12 Wichita Falls, Texas-based Hollis R. Sullivan Inc. completed a wildcat in southern Dickens County (RRC 8A) about 3.5 miles southeast of Spur, Texas. The #1 Steele "190" was tested flowing 130 bbl. of 38-degree oil, 200,000 cu. ft. of casinghead gas and five bbl. of water daily through perforations between 4,662-70 ft. in the Tannehill. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 42 psi on a 20/64-in. choke. Located in Section 190, Block 1, H&GN Survey, A-660, the well recovered 275 bbl. of crude prior to completion. 13 Griffin Petroleum Co., Midland, Texas, staked a Central Basin Platform wildcat 12 miles south of Odessa, Texas, in southeastern Ector County (RRC 8) immediately north of the Crane County line. The #1 Dylan, in Section 3, Block 43, T4S, T&P Survey, A-250, is set to reach 10,200 ft. About a half-mile east is the #1 W.C. Edwards in Edwards West Field. Cumulative recovery from that well was 698 bbl. of oil and 2,000 cu. ft. of casinghead gas. The well was later deepened to 9,100 ft., but was unsuccessfully tested. 14 Millican, Texas, independent Lometa Exploration Corp. permitted a wildcat in southern Coryell County (RRC 7B) within a half mile northeast of the Lampasas County line and about a mile northwest of Copperas Cove, Texas. The #1 Williams, in the John H. McClaine Survey, A-776, will be drilled to a total depth of 4,500 ft. The #1 J.R. Summers is 1.7 miles northeast of the venture. The 1,468-ft. well was tested flowing 450,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from the Strawn between 1,269 and 1,465 ft. in 1963, but it was never brought onstream, according to IHS Energy. The well was reentered in 1985, but it was unsuccessful. 15 San Angelo, Texas, independent TXP Inc. staked two wildcats in northwestern Irion County (RRC 7C) about 18 miles northwest of Mertzon, Texas. The #1 M.B. Noelke "2" in Section 2, Block 27, H&TC Survey, A-1013, is set to reach a total depth of 7,900 ft. The #1 Sugg "9" is more than two miles east in Andrew A Field. Recovery from the 7,050-ft. well totaled just 117 bbl. of crude and 1,000 cu. ft. of casinghead gas through perforations between 6,877 and 6,911 ft.
