1 McCoy Petroleum Corp., Wichita, Kan., has scheduled a pair of wildcats, both targeting the Mississippi oil zones eight to nine miles east-southeast of the town of Winona in Logan County, northwestern Kansas. The 4,800-ft. discoveries are the #1-16 Meade-A, in Section 16-12s-34w, and the #1-16 Van Eaton Trust-A, in Section 16-12s-34w. Elaine West Field is within 2.5 miles north. It produced 31,277 bbl. of oil from Lansing and Marmaton until mid-2003. 2 Tulsa, Okla., independent Hart Energies LLC staked a wildcat approximately six miles south-southeast of the southern Kansas town of Nashville in eastern Barber County. The #1 Rankin, projected to 5,000 ft. in the Arbuckle, is in Section 14-31s-10w in the western Sedgwick Basin. It is designed to test the Mississippian. The nearest production is more than two miles west at McReynolds Northeast Field, where the #17-1 Carter produced 9.3 million cu. ft. of gas during 16 months online after testing at an initial potential of 735,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. 3 Seeco Inc., a unit of Houston-based Southwestern Energy, scheduled two northeastern Arkoma Basin wildcats 2.5 miles west-southwest of Damascus, Ark., in Faulkner County. The #1-11 Ferrell and the #2-11 R. Harrison, both in Section 11-8n-14w, are projected to reach a total depth of 5,200 ft. The locations are within a mile northeast of Martinville Field. In that field, the #1 Miller was tested flowing 75,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from perforations in the Orr between 2,042-59 ft., and 370,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from the Hale between 2,655-58 ft. in 1982. It recovered 38 million cu. ft. of gas as the field's only producer for more than three years. 4 Seeco Inc. has staked a location in a nonproducing area of the eastern Arkoma Basin in Yell County, nine to 10 miles south-southwest of Plainview, Ark. The company filed a case with the Arkansas Oil & Gas Commission to permit the wildcat in Section 5-2n-22w, and for the integration of various individuals' unleased mineral interests underlying the section. 5 Chesapeake Operating Inc., Oklahoma City, completed a well five miles southeast of the town of Geary, Okla., in Canadian County. The 11,220-ft. well could be the first Springer oil producer in the sprawling Watonga-Chickasha Trend, according to IHS Energy. The #1-34 Walner, in Section 34-13n-10w, was tested flowing 34-degree-gravity oil at a natural rate of 115 bbl. with 3,000 cu. ft. of gas and one bbl. of water per day through perforations between 11,028-94 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 5,950 psi on an 8/64-in. choke. A low-volume commingled well, completed in 1981, is the only oil production in the area. It is 8.5 miles northeast of the completion. 6 Chesapeake Operating Inc., Oklahoma City, has completed a deep southern Anadarko Basin wildcat as a multi-zone Springer discovery slightly more than three miles east of Rocky, Okla. The #1-16 State, in Section 16-8n-17w in southern Washita County, was tested flowing 2.42 million cu. ft. of gas daily, with no water, through fracture-stimulated intervals between 18,682 and 19,300 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 9,036 psi on a 7/64-in. choke. The well is three miles north-northeast of Overturned Springer wells in two contiguous fields along the northwest-southeast trending Gotebo fault. Both Rocky Field and Rocky East Field wells produce from depths above 7,800 ft. 7 Yates Petroleum Corp., Artesia, N.M., completed a Silurian wildcat almost 30 miles north-northeast of Roswell, N.M., in northern Chaves County. The #1 Seinfeld "BBK" Federal, in Section 12-6s-26e in Crockett Draw Field, was tested through acidized perforations between 5,912-20 ft. flowing 36 bbl. of oil per day, with 12,000 cu. ft. of gas and 44 bbl. of water. The Silurian oil discovery was deepened to 6,020 ft. The #2 Sterne "BCS" Com is about a mile south in the same field. It was completed flowing gas through perforations between 5,352-60 ft. in the Wolfcamp. The 5,970-ft. discovery produced 33.11 million cu. ft. of gas and 744 bbl. of water since it was completed in mid-2003. 8 Devon Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, staked two Morrow wildcats in the southernmost portion of Lea County more than 10 miles southwest of the town of Jal, N.M., within a mile north of the Texas-New Mexico border. The #1 Arena Rojo Federal, in Section 27-26s-35e, is set to reach a total depth of 16,600 ft. The #2 Arena Roja Federal is set to reach a similar depth a half-mile northeast. The #1 well is 0.75-mile northwest of the only producer in Hagood Field. The #1 Miro "35" has produced 45,692 bbl. of oil, 70.11 million cu. ft. of gas and 3,066 bbl. of water since the beginning of 2001. 9 Oklahoma City-based Range Production Co. staked a western Anadarko Basin wildcat about 23 miles northwest of Miami in the Panhandle in northern Roberts County, Texas (RRC 10). The #1-6 Courson Ranch South PA 5, in Section 6, Block A, H&GN Survey, A-845, is set to reach a total depth of 9,300 ft. with objectives including the Upper Morrow sand and Chester. The location is a mile generally west of Courson Ranch Field. 10 Merex Resources Inc., Amarillo, Texas, has scheduled a discovery eight miles southwest of Spearman, Texas, in the western Anadarko Basin. The #6 Pearson, in Section 6, Block 3, SA&MG Survey, A-788, in southern Hansford County (RRC 10), is set to reach a total depth of 9,000 ft. in the Precambrian basement. Production has been attributed to a number of fields in the region, including Collard, Patten and Hansford, but no volume has been reported. 11 Wichita Falls, Texas, independent Gunn Oil Co. staked a West Texas discovery more than five miles southeast of the town of Dickens, Texas, in Dickens County (RRC 8A). The #1 Hahn J2, in Section 341, Block 1, H&GN survey, A-177, will be drilled to a total depth of 5,500 ft. Croton Creek Field is 3.5 miles south-southeast. The Edwards "A" has recovered a cumulative 73,915 bbl. of oil and 10.87 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas through perforations between 4,660-64 ft. in the Tannehill. 12 Abilene, Texas-based independent HGN Operating Co. Inc. finaled a Flippen oil discovery about four miles west-northwest of the town of Anson, Texas, in northwestern Jones County (RRC 7B). The #1 Rainwater, in Section 54, Block 2, SP RR Survey, A-1872, was tested flowing 35 bbl. of 32-degree oil daily, with no gas and 35 bbl. of water, through intervals between 2,504-05 ft. The nearest production to the 2,586-ft. well is about 0.75-mile southwest. The #1 Helen Propst in Jones County Regular Field has yielded 129 bbl. of crude from the Pennsylvanian Hope between 2,694-98 ft., according to IHS Energy. 13 Midland, Texas-based operator Henry Petroleum LP completed a wildcat flowing 70 bbl. of 39.6-degree oil daily, with 26,000 cu. ft. of gas and 150 bbl. of water, through fracture-treated perforations between 9,130 and 10,000 ft. The #101 Sallie, in Section 1, Block 42, T3S, T&P Survey, A-132, in southeastern Ector County, Texas, (RRC 8) is more than a mile southeast of the Odessa city limits and 1.5 miles east of the Midland County line. Total depth of the discovery is 10,176 ft. The closest producer is the #1 Averitt "C," the sole producer in Bermuda Field. The 13,600-ft. well recovered a cumulative 19,332 bbl. of oil and 132.5 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas through 1989. It was later recompleted in a shallower Wolfcamp zone and recovered 10,412 bbl. of crude as part of the Dora Roberts Field. 14 Nearly 40 miles southeast of Fort Stockton, Texas, operations have begun in a southeastern Pecos County (RRC 8) wildcat. The #1 Slaughter Northeast "18," in Section 18, Block 128, T&STL Survey, A-5314, was spudded by Fasken Oil & Ranch Ltd., Midland. About two miles west of the Terrell County line, the #1 offsets to the southeast a 19,050-ft. well abandoned in 1980. The nearest producer is the #4901 Hackberry, about four miles northeast of the wells. It was completed flowing 7.77 million cu. ft. of gas daily through commingled zones between 13,483 and 16,164 ft. in the Strawn, Devonian and Ellenburger. 15 Marshall & Winston Inc., Midland, staked a West Texas wildcat in southern Irion County (RRC 7C) that will apparently target oil in the Clear Fork. The #1 Wilson, in Section 86, Block 1, H&TC Survey, A-834, is scheduled to 4,000 ft. The #1 Cathey Ranch "66" is 1.6 miles north-northwest in GBC Field. The 8,285-ft. well yielded 4,057 bbl. of oil, 13.47 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 15,829 bbl. of water during more than two years online. It was recompleted in 2001, pumping 39-degree crude from perforations between 4,443-47 ft. in the Clear Fork. It produced 444 bbl. of oil and 1.27 million cu. ft. of gas. 16 Midland, Texas-based Chi Operating Inc. completed a discovery in northeastern Edwards County, Texas, (RRC 1) about 1.6 miles north of the town of Rocksprings. The #1 Fred, in Section 43, Block 2, A&B Survey, A-17, was tested flowing 688,000 cu. ft. of gas daily, with no liquids, through acid- and fracture-treated perforations in the Canyon between 2,598 and 2,654 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 250 psi on a 18/64-in. choke. Total depth is 3,761 ft. About a half-mile south-southeast is the #1 Epperson "47" in Epperson Field. It has recovered a cumulative 153.65 million cu. ft. of gas and one bbl. of condensate.
