1 John O. Farmer Inc., Russell, Kan., is drilling another wildcat in the company's ongoing southwestern Kansas drilling program. The #1-2 Patterson, Section 2-31s-31w, Seward County, is scheduled to go to a depth of 5,600 ft. to evaluate zones through Mississippian Chester, reports IHS Energy Group. 2 Drilling is under way at the Cross Timbers Operating Co. #1-24 Mitchell, a remote wildcat in Section 24-4n-25w, Yell County, Ark. Principle objectives are Pennsylvanian Middle Atoka sands at the venture where the Fort Worth-based operator intends to drill to 10,300 ft. The drillsite is seven miles south of the nearest wells, in Waveland Field where several Pennsylvanian pays are productive. 3 A Pennsylvanian Morrow discovery completed by Tulsa independent Unit Petroleum Co. in Woodward County, Okla., had an initial flow gauge of 212 bbl. of oil, 1.066 million cu. ft. of gas and five bbl. of water per day. According to IHS Energy Group, Unit's new well is the #1 Tommy in Section 34-21n-21w. It was tested on an 8/64-in. choke through perforations at 9,436-68 ft. The discovery is a mile west of a Lower Morrow gas/condensate producer completed in 1978 in Sharon West Field. 4 Production from a new pay-Misener-has been established by Tulsa independent KLO in Oklahoma's Mehan Field. KLO recorded a flow of 138 bbl. of oil and 95,000 cu. ft. of gas per day through a 16/64-in. choke at the #1-22 Cunningham in Section 22-18n-3e, Payne County. The well is producing through perforations at 4,296-4,308 ft. It's a workover of a 4,463-ft. test that was completed as a dry hole in 1997 just off the southeastern flank of Mehan Field. 5 An 18,112-ft. Beckham County, Okla., prospect-the #1-20 Brothers-has been completed by Sanguine Ltd., Tulsa, for a flow of 18 million cu. ft. of gas per day from a Morrow-Springer Sand. Sanguine used a 14/64-in. choke to test through perforations at 17,737-45 ft. at the well, in Section 20-11n-25w on the northern flank of Mayfield Northeast Field. The rig has been moved 400 ft. to the east, where it's drilling Sanguine's #2-20 Brothers, which has a projected depth of 19,700 ft. in Morrow-Springer. 6 Production in the Potato Hills region of Oklahoma's Pushmataha County was extended nearly a mile to the south when The GHK Co. LLC, Oklahoma City, completed the #1-12 Edmonds flowing 7.97 million cu. ft. of gas per day from four perforated intervals between 5,064-6,540 ft. in Lower Mississippian Jackfork. IHS Energy Group reports the extension is in Section 12-2n-19e. About a mile west-northwest, in Section 11-2n-19e, GHK has set pipe on bottom at 5,569 ft. at the #1-11 Hester/Clell, the westernmost prospect drilled to date in its Potato Hills program. 7 Sidwell Oil & Gas Inc., Amarillo, is drilling toward a target depth of 4,800 ft. at the #1028 Holland in Section 28, Block M-2, H&GN Survey, Roberts County, Texas. The venture is a wildcat a little more than three miles southwest of Gill Ranch Field, which produces gas and condensate from Morrow, Granite Wash, Hunter and Kinderhook below 8,500 ft. The field also has a gas/condensate pay in Permian Brown Dolomite between 4,600-4,700 ft. 8 A discovery completed by Trio Operating Co. Inc., Wichita Falls, in Hardeman County, Texas, yielded a flow of 84 bbl. of oil and 12,700 cu. ft. of gas per day from an openhole interval in Mississippian between 8,436 and 8,459 ft., total depth. Trio tested the #1 Palaura-Horse Farm on a 5/64-in. choke. The discovery is in Section 166, Block H, W&NW Survey, A-901. 9 West Bay Exploration Co., with offices in Traverse City, Mich., and Midland, has confirmed its opener of Cahoon Field in Texas' Cooke County with the completion of the #1-B Sicking flowing 160 bbl. of oil and 40,000 cu. ft. of casinghead gas per day. The confirmation is in Thomas Toby Survey, A-1047. West Bay used a 25/64-in. choke to test through perforations at 2,430-40 ft. in Ordovician Ellenburger. According to IHS Energy Group, the discovery, the #1 Sicking Unit, 0.25-mile north, flowed 168 bbl. of oil and 40,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Ellenburger at completion last year. 10 The horizontal #5701 ACU, completed by Pure Resources LP, Midland, flowing 2.42 million cu. ft. of gas, 13 bbl. of condensate and 78 bbl. of water per day from Devonian, has confirmed the discovery of Porter Ranch Field and extended the Devonian reservoir 2.25 miles east-southeast into Terrell County, Texas. The 5701 ACU, in Section 57, Block R3, GC&SF Survey, A-493, Terrell County, was tested on a 15/64-in. choke from a measured depth of 13,824-16,878 ft. (a true vertical depth of 13.149-51 ft.). This is the initial well in the Monty Project Area, a horizontal Devonian play in which Pure holds a 60% working interest. The Porter Ranch Field opener, the Ultra Petroleum #3401 ACU, in Section 34, Block 102, J.H. Gibson Survey, A-5897, Pecos County, was completed in 1995 flowing gas through perforations between 13,250-13,373 ft. in Devonian. Pure plans to drill three additional tests in the area. 11 LCS Production Co., Abilene, worked over the #1 Guitar "13" in Howard County, Texas, and completed it as a Permian Clear Fork discovery flowing 178 bbl. of oil and 98,000 cu. ft. of casinghead gas per day. A 14/64-in. choke was used to test the well through perforations at 5,634-48 ft. The 10,292-ft. well, originally abandoned in 1997, was plugged back to 5,790 ft. for completion in Clear Fork. It's in Section 13, Block A, Bauer & Cockrell Survey, A-562, a mile south of the nearest Clear Fork production in Chaney Field. 12 BTA Oil Producers, Midland, is nearing 6,500 ft. at the #1 20001 JV-P Penwell, a 19,800-ft. wildcat it's drilling in Reeves County, Texas. The drillsite is in Section 17, Block 55, T4S, T&P Survey, A-801, reports IHS Energy Group. Nearly two miles to the northeast, a Pennsylvanian well in Aylesworth Field was completed in 1978 flowing 2.21 million cu. ft. of gas per day from 17,068-88 ft. However, the 19,755-ft. well was online for only four months. Cumulative production was 24.65 million cu. ft. of gas. 13 A third remote wildcat is being drilled by Trail Mountain Inc. in nonproducing Hudspeth County, Texas. The Artesia, N.M., independent's venture is the #1 PSL Dune "123-4," in Section 4, Block 123 PSL Survey, A-2274. Target depth is 10,000 ft. A little more than 10 miles south-southwest, Trail Mountain drilled the #1 University Oasis "M48," Section 48, Block M, UL Survey, to a total depth of 5,796 ft. Permitted depth was 10,000 ft. Shows of oil and gas were recovered on drillstem tests between 5,150-5,295 ft. and 5,140-5,304 ft. in Helms. The status of the venture is not reported. The company's first test in the county, the #1 University Sizzler "D5," was abandoned early this year at a total depth of 5,820 ft. It's in Section 5, Block D, UL Survey, 11 miles northwest of the current drilling venture. 14 Details have been made available on a remote New Mexico discovery that apparently has established the first commercial production in Otero County, reports IHS Energy Group. Harvey E. Yates Co. Inc., Roswell, in late 1997 tested 1.294 million cu. ft. of gas per day, with a trace of condensate and water, at the #1Y Bennett Ranch Unit, Section 14-26s-12e. Yates perforated at 4,506-18 ft. in Mississippian and tested on a 14/64-in. choke at the well about 12 miles north of the first remote wildcat drilled by Trail Mountain Inc. in Texas' Hudspeth County. 15 A Morrow discovery-the #1 Radar "24" Federal in Section 24-19s-31e, Eddy County, N.M.-has been completed by Lynx Petroleum Consultants Inc. flowing 1.285 million cu. ft. of gas and 47 bbl. of condensate per day. Hobbs, N.M.-based Lynx used a 14/64-in. choke to test through perforations at 12,440-54 ft. This successful deeper-pool wildcat represents the first production from Morrow reported for Greenwood Field. 16 Also in Eddy County, Southwestern Energy Production Co., Houston, is drilling below 5,560 ft. on the way to a target depth of 11,000 ft. at its #1 Lonesome Dove "25" Federal.
