IHS Energy Group notes earlier reports said the well initially flowed 2.83 million cu. ft. of gas, 4 bbl. of condensate and 4 bbl. of water per day through an 11/64-in, choke. 8 Potter County, Texas, is to get two new exploratory tests-a new-field wildcat and a deeper-pool venture that's projected to Precambrian, both scheduled to be drilled by Sunlight Exploration Inc., Canyon, Texas. The new-field wildcat, the #13-14 Marsh Ranch, is to go to about 4,000 ft. for tests of Brown Dolomite. It's in Section 14, Block 21W, EL&RR Suvey, A-1117, a mile south of Tecovas Creek Field. Projected depth is 6,000 ft. at the deeper-pool test, the #5-2 Marsh Ranch in Section 2, Block 4, G&M Survey, A-478, in the center of the field. 9 New York-based independent Belco Oil & Gas Corp. is drilling the #1 Holcomb and has staked the #1 Stepp, both 9,000-ft. Lower Ordovician Ellenburger wildcats in Hardeman County, Texas. The active venture is in Hopkins CSL Survey, A-15, while the new location spots a half-mile to the south-southwest in Section 511, Block A, H&TC Survey, A-117. 10 A discovery in Terrell County, Texas, was finaled recently by Bass Enterprises Production Co., Fort Worth, flowing 4.808 million cu. ft. of gas, 1 bbl. of condensate and 22 bbl. of water per day on a 19/64-in. choke. IHS Energy Group reports the #1 Mitchell "533" is producing through perforations between 13,174-13,970 ft. and an openhole interval between 14,039-14,713 ft. The well, in Section 533, Mud Creek IA&M Survey, A-691, topped Ellenburger at 12,685 ft. 11 CMS Oil & Gas Co., Houston-based CMS Energy Corp.'s oil and gas exploration and production unit, has announced two new horizontal discoveries it operates in West Texas-the #2P Lela "A" Pennsylvanian well in Midland County and the #7401H Hangar Devonian producer in Upton County. The #2P Lela "A," Section 18, Block 39, T2S, T&P Survey, A-4347, tested at a rate of more than 750 bbl. of oil and 2.7 million cu. ft. of gas per day. The well was drilled vertically to a depth of about 10,713 ft. and horizontally a distance of approximately 5,684 ft. CMS Oil & Gas owns leasehold rights covering approximately 12,000 acres overlying Pennsylvanian and the 1,000-ft. deeper Devonian strata in the Midland area. The company holds a 90% working interest in the Lela, with the remaining 10% held by Texaco Exploration & Production Inc. CMS' #7401H Hangar, Section 74, Block C, CCSD&RGNG Survey, yielded a flow of gas at the rate of 7.5 million cu. ft. per day. It was drilled vertically to a depth of approximately 12,037 ft. and horizontally a distance of about 4,000 ft. CMS Oil & Gas owns a 100% working interest in the well, subject to a 25% reversionary interest. The company has rights to explore approximately 15,000 acres in the area of the discovery that's roughly 35 miles south of the company's existing Devonian gas development program near Midland. 12 Santa Fe Snyder Corp., Houston, reports its #1 Sellers 119, an exploratory well in Howard County, Texas, encountered 115 ft. of gross pay sand with productive gas shows over a 200-ft. interval. The company notes the well extends the prospective area of its prolific Lost Peak area. The well, which bottomed at about 8,300 ft. in Section 119, Block 29, W&NW Survey, A-1616, targeted Pennsylvanian Cisco Canyon sands that Santa Fe is currently exploiting in its Signal Peak Field 6 miles to the northwest. Santa Fe says it has 80,000 gross acres (60,000 net) under lease in this play and through year-end expects to drill an additional 15 development and 3 exploratory tests. Current plans for 2001 include drilling up to 50 tests in the area. 13 San Antonio independent Abraxas Petroleum Corp. says it has entered into a letter of intent for a joint venture with EOG Resources Inc., Houston, to develop its Montoya play in West Texas. EOG will pay Abraxas $2.5 million to earn 75% of Abraxas' working interest in the Montoya formation covering approximately 11,000 net acres in Ward and Reeves counties. EOG will operate and pay 100% of the costs of up to five horizontal tests in the Montoya formation and will spud two of the tests before year-end. Abraxas will retain a carried 25% working interest in four of the tests and will have an override and a 30% working interest after payout in the fifth test. The tests will offset several wells drilled by Exxon Mobil and Arco that have yielded gas at rates of 8 million to 17 million cu. ft. per day per well. 14 In New Mexico's Eddy County, the #2 Empire 20 Federal Com is a discovery being dually completed in Morrow and Atoka sands by Magnum Hunter Resources Inc., Irving, Texas.
