There is no production in the county, even though about 100 wells have been drilled. The company's #1 C.R. Cheatham is targeting oil. The nearest previous drilling is 2.3 miles to the southeast at the abandoned #1 Leslie Taylor. The nearest production is more than 10 miles to the east-southeast in Red River County in RRC 6. There, the #1 Joe M. Ward well, on the western flank of Shelton Field, produced 486 bbl. of oil, 32,000 cu. ft. of gas and 3 bbl. of water from Cotton Valley perforations between 5,224-34 ft. between 1986 and 1996, according to IHS Energy. 2 Dallas independent Basa Resources Inc. plans a wildcat to 9,000 ft. in northwestern Smith County, Texas (RRC 6). The company's #1 Fleming is in undrilled Antonio Walsh Survey, A-1035, approximately a mile northwest of the town of Lindale. The nearest producer to the well is nearly a mile east in Lindale Field, which produces from Rodessa. In that field, the #1 Wall produced 183 million cu. ft. of gas, 12,177 bbl. of condensate and 884 bbl. of water from 1983 to 1985, IHS Energy reported. 3 Tom Brown Inc., Denver, has scheduled a deep wildcat in northwestern Nacogdoches County, Texas (RRC 6), about 5 miles northeast of the Cherokee County line. The company's #1 Middlebrook Unit, in Antonio Sanchez Survey, A-501, is proposed to 16,000 ft. Nearest production is a Tom Brown well in Loco Bayou Field, more than a mile to the east-southeast. In that field, the #3 Loco Bayou "501" horizontal well, drilled to a measured depth of 15,420 ft. (9,247 ft. vertical depth) flowed gas from an openhole interval in the James Lime from 9,396 to 15,420 ft. From July 2001 through January this year, it produced 933.9 million cu. ft. of gas, 52 bbl. of condensate and 16,831 bbl. of water. 4 Tom Brown Inc. also completed a discovery flowing 1.4 million cu. ft. of gas a day about 15 miles southeast of El Campo in western Wharton County, Texas (RRC 3). The company's #1 L.G. Raun Family Trust, in HE&WT RR Co Survey, A-766, was tested from Frio perforations between 4,652 and 5,067 ft. through a 20/64-in. choke with 1,515 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The company drilled the well to 5,316 ft. and plugged back to 5,260 ft. at completion. The nearest production comes from the #2 Raun in Menefee Field, a half-mile to the southwest. That 4,500-ft. well has produced 209.9 million cu. ft. of gas from Frio since 2001. Last November, it produced 97,000 cu. ft. of gas. 5 A 17,500-ft. wildcat will test deep zones in southern Brazoria County, Texas (RRC 3) for 1Hunt Petroleum Corp. 50 , Dallas. The company's #1 Arrington is a half-mile north of the Jones Creek city limits in Stephen F. Austin Survey, A-20. Most wells in the area are from shallower zones, but about 2.6 miles west-southwest of the proposed location, the deepest former producer in the area was drilled to 17,000 ft. That well, the #1 Harod S. Dingle et al., in abandoned Peach Point Field, flowed 130 million cu. ft. of gas a day from a Textularia mississippiensis interval between 14,542-87 ft. That zone stayed on line for 6 months, producing 2.3 billion cu. ft. of gas, 6,597 bbl. of condensate and 12,917 bbl. of water. There is no production in the area from depths close to 17,500 ft. 6 A discovery by Lewis Petroleum Properties Inc., La Salle County, Texas (RRC 1), about 6 miles northeast of its office, flowed 180,000 cu. ft. of gas, 7 bbl. of condensate and 2 bbl. of water a day from Olmos perforations between 8,501-41 ft. The company's #1 Alexander "450," near the abandoned River Run Field, was tested through an 8/64-in. choke with 625 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The 8,770-ft. well is in H&GN RR Co. (S.S. Charles) #450 Survey, A-1787. The nearest Olmos producer is 2.25 miles southeast in Tri Bar Field. There, the #11 Triple Bar "A" has produced 1.68 billion cu. ft. of gas, 37,971 bbl. of condensate and 14,828 bbl. of water since 1986. 7 U.S. Enercorp LLC, San Antonio, Texas, completed a discovery for 13.6 million cu. ft. of gas a day in the southeastern corner of McMullen County, Texas (RRC 1). The #1 Lindholm-Hanson Gas Unit was tested through fracture perforations in Middle Wilcox between 12,882 and 12,952 ft. through a 20/64-in. choke with 7,965 ft. of flowing tubing pressure. It's about a mile and a half west of the Live Oak County line and 4 miles north of the Duval County line in Section 48, AB&M Survey, A-915. 8 Nearly 15 miles northeast of Cuero in eastern DeWitt County, Texas (RRC 2), El Paso Production Oil & Gas Co., Houston, completed a discovery near Barry Field for 10.7 million cu. ft. of gas a day. The #1 Barry, in Thomas Barry Survey, A-82, should begin producing into a pipeline at a rate between 13- and 15 million cu. ft. of gas a day, according to IHS Energy. The well also has additional pay zones that will be completed after the initial zone depletes. The nearest producer in Barry Field is about a quarter mile to the east of the 16,033-ft. directional well. That field produces primarily from the Yegua and Wilcox above 7,800 ft. 9 Allegro Investments Inc., Victoria, Texas, brought in a discovery at its #1 Overpass wildcat in Juan Fernandez Survey, A-21, in western Jackson County, Texas (RRC 2). The well, about a quarter-mile east of the town of El Toro, flowed at a rate of 1.7 million cu. ft. of gas with 235 bbl. of condensate a day from Yegua perforations between 10,692 and 10,784 ft. The company tested the well through a 9/64-in. choke with 5,250 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The nearest Yegua production is a mile to the southwest in El Toro Max North Field. 10 A 12,500-ft. wildcat is in the works for Corpus Christi Bay at its #1 State Tract 64 in Nueces County, Texas (RRC 4). 1Walter Oil & Gas Corp. ) , Houston, Texas, will drill the exploratory well about 5 miles east-southeast of the Corpus Christi city limits. The nearest producer a half-mile to the east-northeast in Encinal Channel Field, where the #7 Sabco State Tract 52 showed an initial potential of 4.4 million cu. ft. of gas a day from Frio perforations between 10,540-92 ft. 11 Sierra Resources LLC, Corpus Christi, has staked an 18,000-ft. wildcat about 5 miles west-southwest of the town of Sarita in northwestern Kenedy County, Texas (RRC 4). The company's #1 Stewart-Burns is in non-producing Section 75, GC&SF RR Co. Survey, A-59, about 3.75 miles south of the Kleburg County boundary line. The nearest production below 16,000 ft. is 10 miles to the east-southeast. 12 Union Oil Co. of California reported a discovery at its Tobago prospect in deep water in Alaminos Canyon 859 in the Gulf of Mexico. It did not disclose a rate of potential production. The discovery, just a block north of the company's Trident discovery, was drilled to a total depth of 18,510 ft. and found 50 ft. of net oil pay. The company also drilled a sidetrack to the well, and plans up to four more tests on the block. In addition, ChevronTexaco plans to drill the Silvertip prospect on Block 815, immediately north of Tobago. That well and as many as four backup wells will be drilled in water depths from 9,279 to 9,592 ft., said IHS Energy. 13 The prolific Green Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico gave up a gas discovery for LLOG Exploration Offshore Inc., Houston, at its #SS-1 OCS-G-25118 well in Green Canyon 137. The company didn't release details on the well, drilled in 1,166 ft. of water. The discovery is between two previous tests on the tract that were abandoned. Three-well Shasta Field lies about two miles away in Green Canyon Block 136. Those wells produced more than 69.3 billion cu. ft. of gas, 272,910 bbl. of condensate and 753,971 bbl. of water since the field discovery in 1995, IHS Energy said. 14 Activity is picking up in Calcasieu Parish in southern Louisiana. Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Onshore LLC, Oklahoma City, plans a 10,000-ft wildcat just south of the Quincy city limits. The #1 Williams 24 is in Section 24-7s-11w, about a mile northwest of the single producing well in DeQuincy North Field. That January 2003 well, the #1 Temple Inland 25, flowed 2.3 million cu. ft. of gas a day from Cockfield perforations between 9,380-84 ft. In other activity, Mayne & Mertz Inc., Houston, Texas, will drill the #1 Smart wildcat in Section 31-10s-11w to 10,200 ft. as part of its Hackberry exploration program. The nearest production is from a company well that extended Clear Marais Field to the west-northwest. The #1 Stream 7 flowed 3.3 million cu. ft. of gas and 492 bbl. of condensate a day from perforations between 10,086-92 ft. 15 Threshold Development Corp., Fort Worth, Texas, chalked up two gas discoveries in northeastern Wilkinson County, Miss., with its #1 Crosby-Ware 12-F and #1 Ware 1-F discoveries. The 3,373-ft. #12-F well, in Section 12-3n-1e, flowed 338,000 cu. ft. of gas a day with no liquids from Frio through an 8/64-in. choke with 960 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The #1-F well, a mile and a quarter to the north, flowed 160,000 cu. ft. of gas a day, also from Frio through a 6/64-in. choke with 1,120 psi of flowing tubing pressure, according to IHS Energy.
