1 ExxonMobil Corp. has completed a producer in Baffin Bay Field, Kenedy County, Texas, flowing 38.961 million cu. ft. of gas, 102 bbl. of condensate and 316 bbl. of water per day, reports IHS Energy Group. The company's #3 Baffin Bay State Gas Unit #3 was gauged on a 30/64-in. choke through perforations between 15,110-15,602 ft. It's in Alvino & Domingo de la Garza Survey, A-37. 2 Texas' Edwards County is the site of a new-field opener, the #1 Speck 6 that was completed by San Antonio independent Rio-Tex Inc. flowing 462,000 cu. ft. of gas and 10 bbl. of water per day from Pennsylvanian Lower Canyon, perforated at 9,224-40 ft. Rio-Tex used a 16/64-in. choke to test the wildcat, in Section 6, J.D. Pepper Survey, A-3528. The closest producer, also a Canyon gas discovery, is two miles to the east at the #1 Bludworth, completed by Rio-Tex last fall. 3 Pipe has been set on bottom at 7,785 ft. at the Devon SFS Operating Inc. #1 Davis Hord 77 in TC RR Co. #77 Survey, A-977, Bandera County, Texas. This is the second wildcat the Oklahoma City firm has cased in Bandera County in recent weeks, the first being the #1 Camp "177," nearly 5.5 miles northeast. Testing is under way at that venture, where pipe was run to a total depth of 7,425 ft. 4 Houston-based Black Stone Energy Co. is drilling below 15,225 ft. and nearing its objective of 15,500 ft. at the wildcat #1 Campbell Fraser in San Jacinto County, Texas. IHS Energy Group notes the venture is in William Rankin Jr. Survey, A-41. It's nearly five miles northeast of the one-well Evergreen North Field where the deepest producer in the county flowed gas from Upper Cretaceous Navarro between 13,495-13,522 ft. 5 In Henderson County, Texas, Ivanhoe Energy Inc., Bakersfield, Calif., and its joint-venture partner Unocal Corp. have drilled two exploratory tests on the Creslenn Ranch Prospect, on the Bossier Trend, according to Ivanhoe. They are the 12,240-ft. #1 Trinity Minerals, which encountered approximately 120 net ft. of Jurassic Bossier Sand, and the 11,583-ft. #2 Trinity Minerals, where the companies found about 220 net ft. of Bossier Sand. Testing is to begin at the #2 well first, followed by the #1. Both prospects are deeper-pool wildcats in R.W. Chappel Survey, A-140. Ivanhoe notes that since the joint venture was announced last October, several prospects have been identified and the joint leasehold position has grown by 10,000 acres to approximately 58,000 gross acres in Henderson, Anderson and Freestone counties. The current exploration plan calls for up to four tests at Cresslen Ranch followed by at least two additional ventures on a separate prospect in Freestone County. Unocal is the operator with a 50% working interest and will invest $10 million toward initial drilling costs to offset the front-end exploration costs incurred by Ivanhoe. After investment equilibrium is reached, the companies will share exploration, development and infrastructure costs equally. 6 Also in Henderson County, Fort Worth independent Range Production Co. has completed a deeper-pool opener in Trinidad South Field flowing 2.549 million cu. ft. of gas and three bbl. of water per day from Lower Cretaceous Travis Peak. Range's #1 Linder, William Ligon Survey, A-430, flowed on an 18/64-in. choke after being perforated at 8,035-47 ft., says IHS Energy Group. 7 A flow gauge of 317 bbl. of oil and 79,000 cu. ft. of gas per day has been credited to the #1 Temple Inland, a new-field discovery completed by Duncan Oil Inc., Houston, in Section 25-8s-11w, Calcasieu Parish, La. The successful wildcat, a little more than three miles east-northeast of Houston River Field, is producing from Oligocene Hackberry at 7,432-52 ft. Testing was carried out using a 12/64-in. choke. 8 Ranger Investments Inc., Longview, tested a flow of 2.686 million cu. ft. of gas, 2 bbl. of condensate and a like amount of water per day on a 26/64-in. choke at the #2 Topper in Section 12-15n-1e, Jackson Parish, La. Lower Cretaceous Hosston, perforated at 10,019-45 ft., is the producing formation at the discovery, nearly eight miles east-northeast of Chatham Field. 9 A wildcat is being drilled by Anadarko Petroleum Corp. in 4,139 ft. of water on its Lisa Anne Prospect on Green Canyon Block 474 in the Gulf of Mexico. According to IHS Energy Group, the Houston firm at last report had drilled to a depth of 6,780 ft. and was preparing to set 20-in. casing at the #1 OCS-G-21798. Target depth is not revealed. 10 BHP Petroleum (GOM) Inc., Houston, and Conoco Inc. have each made plans to drill a wildcat in the Walker Ridge area. BHP has obtained a permit to drill the #1 OCS-G-16965 in 8,180 ft. of water on Block 206, which is part of BHP's Cascade Prospect. Meanwhile, a drilling permit has been issued to Conoco for the #1 OCS-G-16971, which will be drilled from Block 286 to Block 285 to the west. The drillsite is in 6,643 ft. of water. Conoco's prospect also includes Block 240 to the northwest. 11 Two subsea fields in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico were brought online recently by Shell Exploration & Production Co. In the Mississippi Canyon area, the three-well Crosby (Block 899) Field is producing 20,000 bbl. of oil per day. Peak production for the field is expected to be about 60,000 bbl. of oil and 90 million cu. ft. of gas per day. The field is in about 4,400 ft. of water. The second field to begin production, Einset (Viosca Knoll Block 784) Field in 3,500 ft. of water, is giving up 30 million cu. ft. of gas per day. Shell owns a 50% interest in each field. British Petroleum has the remaining 50% interest in Crosby Field and Dominion Exploration & Production Inc. owns the remaining 50% interest in Einset Field. 12 Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Oklahoma City-based Kerr-McGee Corp., has announced that production has been initiated at Nansen Field. Located in 3,700 ft. of water, the Nansen area includes East Breaks blocks 601, 602, and 646. Daily production from the field is expected to ramp up to a peak rate of about 40,000 bbl. of oil and 80 million cu. ft. of gas. Kerr-McGee operates the Nansen area with 50% interest. Its partner is Houston independent Ocean Energy Inc. with 50%. In addition, IHS Energy Group reports Kerr-McGee plans to drill a wildcat at the #1 OCS-G-22295 south of Nansen Field in 3,905 ft. of water. The venture is to be drilled from East Breaks Block 646 to a bottomhole location beneath Block 689 to the southwest. 13 Unocal Corp. says it continues to be encouraged after successfully completing the #2 OCS-G-20876, the first appraisal well on the Trident Prospect on Alaminos Canyon Block 903. The well, about 1.5 miles northwest of the #1 discovery, was drilled to a total depth of 20,500 ft. in 9,727 ft. of water, which is the current water depth record in the Gulf of Mexico. The company notes the combination of lateral continuity and quality of reservoir rock encountered at the #2 well is a cause for optimism. The appraisal well encountered the same hydrocarbon-bearing intervals found in the discovery, a 20,500-ft. wildcat that encountered more than 300 ft. of pay last year. Unocal is the operator and has a 59.5% working interest in the prospect. Co-venturers include Chevron U.S.A. Production Co, with 15%; Ocean Energy Inc., 12.75%; Agip Petroleum Co., 8.5%; and, Phillips Petroleum Co., 4.25%. 14 Cretaceous Carter was tapped for a flow of 1.985 million cu. ft. of gas per day at the #1 Luckyday Foundation 21-2, a discovery completed by Roundtree & Associates Inc., Jackson, 1.5 miles east of Trebloc Field in Chickasaw County, Miss. Located in Section 21-14s-5e, the wildcat was tested on a 16/64-in. choke through perforations at 4,229-48 ft., reports the Southeastern Oil Review. 15 Miller Exploration Co.'s #1 Miller-Board of Education 16-1, Section 16-7n-13w, Jones County, Miss., yielded a flow of 100 bbl. of oil per day from Hosston at completion. According to the Southeastern Oil Review, the new-field opener flowed on a 15/64-in. choke through perforations at 15,474-15,510 ft. Gas-oil ratio was 450-1. The Houston firm's discovery, named Pine Grove Field, is 1.25 miles northeast of Crackerneck Field and almost 1.5 miles west-northwest of Blackburn Field.
