1 Ballard Exploration Co. is enjoying excellent success in its Liberty County, Texas, drilling program targeting the Eocene Cook Mountain, reports IHS Energy Group. The Houston-based independent recently completed a 13,415-ft. well flowing 5.16 million cu. ft. of gas, 435 bbl. of condensate and 14 bbl. of water per day. Drilled in the WC RR Co. Survey, A-450, the #1 Agro-Dynamics was perforated at 13,237-67 ft. and 13,250-80 ft. The well was a confirmation to the company's #1 Texaco Fee C, drilled in the WC RR Co. #6 Survey, A-520, about 1.5 miles southeast. That 13,825-ft. discovery had an initial daily potential of 4.85 million cu. ft. of gas, 76 bbl. of condensate and seven bbl. of water from perforations at 13,161-13,235 ft. The company also released completion information on the #1 Texaco Fee B-in the WC RR Co. Survey, A-521-drilled last fall. The well flowed 5.75 million cu. ft. of gas per day from perforations in the Cook Mountain at 13,726-66 ft. The 14,477-ft. well is a mile south of the #1 Texaco Fee C. Ballard kicked off the play last summer with its #1 Raywood Investments discovery, W.C. Moore #10 Survey, A-609. 2 A Frio discovery has been completed by Houston-based Zackson Resources Inc. in Jefferson County, Texas. The #1 Melton, William Smith Survey, A-49, flowed 1 million cu. ft. of gas and eight bbl. of condensate per day. The well was tested through perforations between 8,539-44 ft. Total depth was 10,377 ft. 3 Westech Energy Corp., Denver, has completed a Wilcox discovery in Fort Bend County, Texas, flowing 4.2 million cu. ft. of gas, 96 bbl. of condensate and 782 bbl. of water per day. The #1 Heidrick was drilled in the Fred B. Schimidt Survey, A-461, and tested through perforations at 13,407-16 ft. 4 Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc. has finaled a Goliad County Wilcox discovery eight miles west of the town of Goliad, Texas. The Houston independent drilled the #1 C.C. Ramsey in the Maria de Jesus Ybarbo Survey, A-51. The well flowed 2.2 million cu. ft. of gas, 100 bbl. of condensate and 33 bbl. of water per day from perforations at 11,796-11,846 ft. A few miles northwest of that well, the company tested 601,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from another wildcat. The #1 Coleto Cattle flowed five bbl. of condensate and 73 bbl. of water per day along with the gas. The 13,500-ft. well, drilled in Pedro Trevino Survey, A-46, was perforated at 11,590-11,610 ft. 5 Production has been reestablished in Redfish Bay North Field, San Patricio County, Texas, by Cabot Oil & Gas, Houston. The company flowed 4.6 million cu. ft. of gas with 337 bbl. of condensate, along with eight bbl. of water, per day at the #1 State Tract 324, William McDonough Survey, A-185. The well was tested through perforations in the Oligocene Frio at 11,130-70 ft. Between 1959 and 2000, Redfish Bay North Field produced 36.5 billion cu. ft. of gas and 840,000 bbl. of condensate and oil from some 20 Frio wells, says IHS Energy. 6 A well in Kingsville Southwest Field well has been finaled by El Paso Production for a flow of 3.6 million cu. ft. of gas, 1,277 bbl. of condensate and 1,042 bbl. of water per day. The Houston company completed the 14,007-ft. #1 Bevan Brothers well in the Miguel Gutierrez Survey, A-118, northwestern Kleberg County. The Oligocene Vicksburg was tested through perforations 13,020-13,134 ft. and 13,177-13,207 ft. El Paso's new producer offsets to the north a discovery completed by the operator last fall in the same survey. The #1 Smith flowed 1.62 million cu. ft. of gas, 313 bbl. of condensate and 48 bbl. of water per day from the Vicksburg at 12,622-12,780 ft. El Paso is also active on several other deep tests in the vicinity. 7 A Frio discovery in Willacy County, Texas, has been completed by Anschutz Exploration Corp., Denver. The 14,350-ft. #3-2 F.D. Yturria, Jose Narcisco Cabazo Survey, A-8, flowed 2.9 million cu. ft. of gas, three bbl. of condensate and 50 bbl. of water per day from perforations at 12,300-20 ft. 8 Union Oil of California has completed an Oligocene discovery in Texas waters offshore Nueces County, on Mustang Island Block 749L. The #1 State Tract 749L was tested through perforations between 14,418 and 14,587 ft. at the rate of 2 million cu. ft. of gas and 26 bbl. of condensate per day. The 15,228-ft. well is about a mile south of a three-well field. 9 Chevron USA Inc. has completed a 13,180-ft. discovery about 20 miles northeast of the town of Freer in northeastern Duval County, Texas. The #1 Eubank flowed 1.8 million cu. ft. of gas, one bbl. of condensate and two bbl. of water daily from perforations in the Eocene Wilcox at 11,472-82 ft., 11,489-96 ft. and 11,532-44 ft. The 13,180-ft. discovery was drilled in the Thomas Steele #37 Survey, A-940, near the McMullen and Live Oak County line. Nearly a half-mile south, Chevron has drilled the #2 Eubank in the same survey. This test is cased to 12,400 ft. (total depth is 14,400 ft.) and is waiting on completion. The company has also scheduled a 13,500-ft. wildcat in Live Oak County, some three miles north of the #1 Eubank. The #1 Brookshire will be drilled in the J. Poitevent #83 Survey, A-352. 10 Houston independent Saxet Energy Ltd. flowed 520 bbl. of oil per day from a wildcat in southeastern Maverick County, Texas. The #1 Comanche Ranch "111." Section 111, Block 6, I&GN RR Survey, A-717, is producing from the Cretaceous Glen Rose at 6,457-6,731 ft. Along with the oil, the well also flowed a trace of gas and five bbl. of water per day. The discovery is the first drilled on the 95,000-acre Comanche lease under a joint venture agreement with The Exploration Co., San Antonio. 11 Irving-based Magnum Hunter Resources Inc. reports new production from three Gulf of Mexico projects, including two wells drilled by Remington Oil and Gas from East Cameron Block 184. The #1 OCS-G-21578 and #1 OCS-G-22585, which were drilled from a common surface location in the northwestern corner of Block 184, bottomed on blocks 179 and 185, respectively. The wells are producing at a combined daily rate of 36 million cu. ft. of gas and 1,050 bbl. of oil from a depth of about 11,500 ft. Remington operates and owns with a 57.5% working interest in blocks 179, 184 and 185; Magnum Hunter owns 30%; and Wiser Oil Co. owns the remaining 12.5%. Magnum Hunter also has an interest a discovery that was drilled last year by Spinnaker Exploration Co LLC. The #1 OCS-G-21680, drilled in the southeastern corner of South Timbalier Block 274 in about 260 ft. of water, has been placed on production at the rate of 10 million cu. ft. of gas and 1,056 bbl. of oil per day from a zone at about 12,500 ft. Magnum Hunter owns 10% of the well and Spinnaker operates and owns the 90% majority interest. 12 A well on West Cameron Block 116 flowed 8.6 million cu. ft. of gas per day. Gryphon Exploration, an affiliate of Houston-based Cheniere Energy Inc., encountered 70 ft. of net pay at its #1 OCS-G-22513. The well, in the southeastern portion of the block in 38 ft. of water, is in Block 11 Field. That accumulation has produced a total of 25.86 billion cu. ft. of gas and 164,000 bbl. of condensate. In separate activity 4.5 miles east, El Paso Production Co. has permitted a wildcat on undrilled West Cameron Block 114. The #1 OCS-G-17762 is to be drilled in 30 ft. of water in the southwestern portion of the block. 13 ChevronTexaco has made a deepwater discovery on its Tahiti prospect in Green Canyon 640, reports IHS Energy Group. The #1 OCS-G-20082 was drilled to a measured depth of 28,411 ft. in 4,040 ft. of water. It encountered total net pay of more than 400 ft. ChevronTexaco operates and holds a 58% working interest in the discovery, EnCana Corp. holds 25%, and Enterprise Oil holds the remaining 17% interest. The Tahiti well is the second in EnCana's four-well commitment to earn a 25% interest in 71 ChevronTexaco-operated blocks in the Gulf's Mississippi Fanfold Belt. Completion of the four-well program is expected by early 2003. 14 Oklahoma City firm Kerr-McGee Corp. and Houston-based Ocean Energy Inc. have made a deepwater Gulf of Mexico discovery at their Merganser prospect, Atwater Valley Block 37. The 21,268-foot well was drilled in 7,900 ft. of water and encountered more than 150 ft. of gas pay in three zones. Reserves are estimated in the range of 200- to 400 billion cu. ft. of gas equivalent. The partners plan to drill an appraisal well later this year. Kerr-McGee operates Merganser with 50% interest, and Ocean holds the remaining 50% interest.
