1 An Oligocene Vicksburg discovery, that flowed at a combined rate of 10.75 million cu. ft. of gas and 216 bbl. of oil per day from two reservoirs, has been made by GMT Inc., Houston, in Starr County, Texas. Houston-based Edge Petroleum Corp., owner of a 31.5% working interest, reports the North La Copita prospect is the #1 Neblett. The well, in "El Benadito" Heirs of Jose Antonio Morales Survey, A-338, bottomed at about 10,200 ft. and has pipe set at 9,515 ft. Other working interest partners include Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc., Square Mile Energy and Carson Energy. Also, Edge Petroleum, as a 29.9% working interest holder, has reported on another discovery completed in Starr County, this one Corpus Christi independent BNP Petroleum Corp.'s #1 M.E. Evans Unit. The 6,800-ft. well, in Jose Antonio Morales Survey, A-338, has four separate pay sands and has been completed in two of them. 2 Wagner & Brown Ltd., Midland, tested 6.409 million cu. ft. of gas and 23 bbl. of water per day from Eocene Wilcox at the opener of En Seguido Field in Zapata County, Texas. According to IHS Energy Group, the wildcat in Onofre Garcia "El Grullo" Survey, A-37, flowed on a 12/64-in. choke through perforations at 12,510-40 ft. 3 Davis Petroleum Corp., the Houston-based company owned by Marvin Davis, of Los Angeles, continues its successful exploration program in Texas' Galveston Bay area, having announced the completion of another new-field discovery. Located in the Chambers County portion of the bay, the 16,087-ft. #1 State Tract 251 yielded 12 million cu. ft. of gas and 800 bbl. of condensate per day on an 18/64-in. choke through perforations between 12,362-12,413 ft. in Vicksburg. The well was drilled on a block of state leases covering approximately 1,920 acres, in which Salt Lake City independent Questar Exploration & Production Co. reports it has a 25% working interest. 4 Chambers County has claimed another discovery, the Vintage Petroleum Inc. #1 USX Hematite that's being completed in Vicksburg below 10,000 ft., according to 14% working interest owner Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc., Houston. Tulsa-based Vintage logged approximately 51 ft. of apparent pay at the well, the first Cedar Point Project area well, which was drilled to a total depth of 11,061 ft. and has liner set to 11,055 ft. The test is in William D. Smith Survey, A-23. 5 A Bossier Sand discovery, completed by Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Houston, in Freestone County, Texas, gave up a flow of 2.327 million cu. ft. of gas and 29 bbl. of water per day on a 48/64-in. choke. IHS Energy Group reports Anadarko perforated between 13,088-13,428 ft. at the #1 Burgher "A" in Cesario Chamar Survey, A-8. The company is conducting an extensive drilling program in Freestone County and at last report was running 12 rigs in the area. 6 In Louisiana, Breton Sound Block 50 Field was opened when LLOG Exploration Co., Metairie, La., completed the #1 State Lease 16393 flowing 5 million cu. ft. of gas and 231 bbl. of condensate. The Miocene discovery, on Block 50 offshore Plaquemines Parish, was tested through perforations at 11,844-56 ft. 7 A Claiborne Parish, La., wildcat in the Leatherman Creek Field area flowed 3.134 million cu. ft. of gas, 33 bbl. of condensate and 25 bbl. of water per day at completion by Nadel & Gussman, Tulsa. The #1-Alt Louisiana Minerals Ltd. 20, Section 20-19n-7w, was tested on an 18/64-in. choke through perforations between 8,713-9,579 ft. in Lower Cretaceous Hosston. 8 Murphy Oil Corp., El Dorado, Ark., reports it logged more than 120 ft. of total pay in two intervals at the #1 OCS-G-16623, a discovery at the Medusa Prospect on Mississippi Canyon Block 582 in the Gulf of Mexico. The well, in about 2,100 ft. of water, was drilled to a measured depth of 16,950 ft. Murphy owns a 60% working interest in the prospect and serves as operator. Partners are Callon Petroleum Co., 15%, and British-Borneo Petroleum Inc., 25%. 9 Operators have started several remote wildcats in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, including one in 7,470 ft. of water on Mississippi Canyon Block 1002, says IHS Energy Group. Chevron USA has moved in a drillship at the #1 OCS-G-16670, which is to be drilled to 21,000 ft. Also in the Mississippi Canyon area, Texaco Exploration & Production Inc. is drilling the first wildcat on Block 252-the #1 OCS-G-18207 in 5,225 ft. of water. Texaco may drill as many as five tests on the block. Additional activity planned by Texaco includes up to four wildcats on Atwater Valley Block 63 (OCS-G-13198). The first proposed test is in 4,392 ft. of water. All four are projected to true vertical depths of 26,000 ft. On Green Canyon Block 955, Statoil Exploration (U.S.) Inc. has started drilling the #1 OCS-G-20114, situated in 6,630 ft. of water. 10 A new producer completed by BP Amoco Plc in Troika (Green Canyon Block 244) Field came in flowing at a daily rate of 33,500 bbl. of oil and 66 million cu. ft. of gas. The #TA-4(ST1) OCS-G-12209 was tested through perforations between 16,789-16,939 ft. in Pleistocene (S10). The Gulf of Mexico's single day production record of 39,317 bbl. of oil and 60.67 million cu. ft. of gas was set recently by a Shell Offshore Inc. well in Ursa Field, on Mississippi Canyon Block 809. 11 Mariner Energy Inc., Houston, announced that the #1 OCS-G-20776 on its "Apia" Prospect on Garden Banks Block 73 is a discovery that encountered 102 net ft. of gas pay in a single productive interval. The test, in 745 ft. of water, was drilled to a total vertical depth of about 4,500 ft. Mariner operates and owns a 100% working interest in Garden Banks Block 73. 12 Dallas-based Chieftain International Inc. participated, with a 60% working interest, in a gas discovery on Vermilion Block 267. Houston independent Basin Exploration Inc., the operator and owner of the remaining 40% working interest, drilled to a total depth of 13,370 ft. and set pipe at the #1 OCS-G-17913. 13 A second discovery made by Kerr-McGee Corp., Oklahoma City, in the East Breaks area encountered 140 ft. of gas condensate pay, reports Kerr-McGee. The 11,990-ft. wildcat #1 OCS-G-14205, at the Nansen Prospect on East Breaks Block 602, lies in 3,680 ft. of water, about eight miles northeast of the company's recently announced North Boomvang discovery on Block 643. The Nansen area includes East Breaks blocks 601, 602, and 646, all operated by Kerr McGee Oil & Gas Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Kerr-McGee Corp., with a 50% working interest. Ocean Energy Inc., Houston, is an equal partner. 14 Miller Exploration Co., Traverse City, Mich., has announced a multidome joint venture arrangement in Mississippi's Salt Basin with Remington Oil & Gas Corp., Dallas. Terms provide for Remington to pay to Miller $1.5 million and to participate in the drilling of five prospects in Miller's Salt Basin Project. Remington will earn a position in undeveloped acreage ranging from 14% to 40% working interest by paying a disproportionate share of the drilling costs in the five-well program. Additionally, Remington will have the option to earn 50% of the undeveloped acreage at Miller's Dry Creek Dome Project by paying the first $900,000 of a 3-D seismic survey shoot. Dry Creek Dome has producing wells from both Hosston and Wash-Fred. All of the prospects to be drilled will have been imaged with 3-D seismic. Miller and Remington are drilling the #1 Campbell in Section 13-8n-14w, on Jones County's Centerville Dome. The venture is to go to an approximate depth of 18,000 ft. Primary objectives are Hosston and Jurassic Cotton Valley. Initial tests are also scheduled on Kola and Richmond domes. 15 Roundtree & Associates Inc., Jackson, is running production casing to a total depth of 18,725 ft. at its wildcat the #1 Robertson 21-9 in Section 21-8n-14w, Covington County, Miss. The Southeastern Oil Review reports that Roundtree found shows in Cotton Valley at the indicated discovery, 2.75 miles northeast of production from that formation in Collins Field.
