EnCana Corp., Calgary, (Toronto, NYSE: ECA) reports that Gwyn Morgan, the founding president and chief executive officer, plans to step down at the end of year. Morgan will remain as executive vice chairman for the year 2006, working mainly in an advisory capacity to the new CEO. Morgan joined EnCana's predecessor Alberta Energy Co. Ltd. in October 1975. In early 2002 he led the merger of two oil and gas firms to create EnCana. The board has appointed Randall K. Eresman to succeed Morgan as president and CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2006. Eresman is currently chief operating officer of the company.
