1. A Lewis sand wildcat has been scheduled by Mantachie, Miss.-based Horton Enterprises Inc. in Itawamba County, Miss. The 1,500-ft. #1 Horton-Bean is in Section 13-9s-8e north of Fulton. Mississippian recovery is 2.5 miles northeast in one-well X-Files Field, where #1 Senter 5-12 was tested flowing gas from Evans sand between 960 and 961 ft. The venture yielded 1.19 million cu. ft. of gas from 2001 to 2005.

2. A remote Smackover wildcat will be drilled in southeastern Mississippi’s nonproducing Sunflower County. Shuler Dril­ling Co. Inc., El Dorado, Ark., will drill #1 Word to 8,600 ft. in Section 4-17n-3w. Dollar Lake Field has produced 117,988 bbl. of oil and 10.5 million cu. ft. of gas in neighboring Leflore County since 1970. Comparable recovery comes from one-well Fomosla Field more than 10 miles southeast.

3. A wildcat has been scheduled by Houston-based GeoMet Inc. in southeastern Alabama’s nonproducing Cullman County. The #06-07-04 Montgomery will target Paleozoic at 2,500 ft. in Section 6-12s-3w. The nearest completed well was drilled in 1998 less than a mile south-southeast of GeoMet’s venture. The #1 Allbritton/Crawford 8-4 was tested flowing 17,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from Lower Tuscumbia. It was never brought online. Closest production is about 40 miles east-southeast in St. Clair County’s Big Canoe Creek Field. Discovered in 2005, the field has recovered 74.1 million cu. ft. of gas and 3,851 bbl. of water from Conasauga shale, reports IHS Inc.

4. A shallow wildcat has been permitted in western Michigan’s Mason County about six miles south of Custer. Traverse City, Mich.-based Golden Petroleum Corp. will drill #1-21 Neubauer in Section 21-17n-16w, Eden Township. It is more than two miles northwest of Eden Field, which has produced from Devonian Traverse, Reed City and Dundee zones above 2,345 ft. since the late 1940s.

5. Haslett, Mich.-based Meridian Production Services Inc. will drill its third horizontal wildcat in southeastern Michigan’s Monroe County about 4.5 miles south-southeast of Deerfield. The #2-31 HD Vergote Goetz will target Trenton in Section 31-7s-6e, Summerfield Township, with a total depth of 2,100 ft. in Black River. Summerfield Field is two miles north, and Deerfield Field, which also produces from Trenton, is five miles north.

6. A shallow wildcat is scheduled by Springfield, Ill.-based Bi-Petro Inc. in Section 15-14n-5w, Sangamon County, Ill., about 3.6 miles east of Chatham. The 2,000-ft. venture will target Silurian oil. Nearest comparable production comes from Glenarm Field about 1.75 miles northwest.

7. Pittsburgh-based CNX Gas Co. LLC plans two wildcats in Section 36-6n-8w, Sullivan County, Ind., both more than four miles west of Sandborn. The #07-SL-02 CNX Gas Company will target Pennsylvanian coal at 1,600 ft., and #BT-001 CNX Gas Company LLC will reach a total depth of 3,500 ft. and target Jefferson City dolomite. Both wells are 1.25 miles east of Freelandville North Field, which produces from New Albany shale.

8. A 4,100-ft. wildcat is slated for Ohio’s Geauga County less than a mile from Middlefield. Byesville, Ohio-based independent David R. Hill will drill #1 Cardinal Local School to target Clinton sand about a half-mile southeast from comparable production in Middlefield Field.

9. Catlettsburg, Ky.-based Nytis Exploration Co. LLC will drill #4 Ledco in Section 32, Catlettsburg Quad, Lawrence County, Ohio, about 1.2 miles northwest of South Point. The 3,999-ft. venture will target Devonian shale about 1.5 miles northwest of an unnamed field that produces from Ohio, reports IHS Inc.

10. A 6,300-ft. wildcat has been scheduled by Ansbro Petroleum Co. LLC, Denver. The #1 T. Lansing is in Section C, Ludlowville Quad, Lansing Township, Tompkins County, about 9.7 miles north of Lansing, N.Y. The venture will evaluate gas in Black River lime. Oriskany production comes from an unnamed field 6.6 miles north.

11. Eight new projects have been added to Cabot Oil & Gas Corp.’s northeastern Pennsylvania exploration program in Susquehanna County, just south of Montrose. The Houston-based company has drilled two wells there since October 2006, but no details have been reported. The latest projects are all projected to 7,500-ft. in the Susquehanna and Springfield Quads. Its #1 Teel, the first well in the program, was drilled to a total depth of 7,017 ft. in Springville Township, Springfield Quad. It is about 26 miles southeast of Stagecoach Field in Tioga County, N.Y., which produces from Oriskany and Helderberg.

12. Extreme eastern Pennsylvania will see a wildcat test. Traverse City, Mich.-based Arbor Operating LLC will drill remote #2 Cabot in Section 9, Riegelsville Quad, Nockamixon Township, Bucks County, Pa., about six miles southwest of Milford, N.J. The wildcat will target gas in Devonian at a depth of 9,500 ft. Nearest production is more than 77 miles southeast in an unnamed field.

13 Houston-based Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. is also active in Mason County, W.Va. Plans call for #2H Holley to be drilled to 7,200 ft. in search of Devonian shale gas. The site is about nine miles north of Milton, Hannan District, Mount Olive Quad. Nearest production is 1.8 miles northeast in an unnamed field that produces from Brown shale.

14 Mason, Mich.-based Dart Oil & Gas will drill #040401 James R. Carter Jr. to 9,000 ft. in Clear Fork District, Bramwell Quad, Tazewell County, Va., about 1.8 miles south of Pocahontas. The wildcat will target Devonian gas. Weir production comes from an unnamed field 2.2 miles northeast.

15 Two 1,999-ft. wildcats are slated for central Kentucky’s Adair County. Columbia, Ky.-based Coomer Mitchell will drill #99 Travis Coomer in Amandaville Quad and #1 Travis Coomer in Columbia Quad. The wells are 7.8 miles south and 1.4 miles southeast of Columbia, respectively. They will evaluate Knox. The first well is two miles east of the nearest production in Gradyville East Consolidated Field. The second is 1.4 miles southeast of Fort Payne recovery in Fairplay Field.

16 Plans call for #4 Beulah Pursiful to be drilled to 4,000 ft. in search of oil and gas in Lexington lime in Bell County, Ky. The Amwes Exploration LLC venture is in Section 8-c-71e, Middlesboro Quad, about 5.6 miles southeast of Pineville. An unnamed field produces from Devonian 2.4 miles west.

17 Oakridge, Tenn.-based Vinland Energy Operations LLC will drill two Chattanooga shale wildcats in Section 5-7s-61e, Elverton Quad, Morgan County, Tenn., about five miles east of Oakdale. The #H12 The Coal Creek Company is projected to 3,100 ft. and #H14 to 3,000 ft. The wells are within 1.5 miles of Chattanooga recovery from an unnamed field, reports IHS Inc.
