1 Choctaw Geological Enterprises, a business of MBCI Enterprise, Choctaw, Miss., will drill a remote wildcat some 35 miles from the nearest production and only the 11th well drilled in nonproducing Cullman County, Ala. The #1 Haynes Farms LLC 26-8 is scheduled to 8,500 ft. 1.5 miles southwest of Fairview in Section 26-9s-2w. The closest test was a 1972 wildcat a half-mile west of the Choctaw site, and the only completion in the county is 17 miles southwest. The nearest production is 35 miles southeast in Big Canoe Creek Field in St. Clair County, site of a shale-drilling program in the Conasauga shale.



2 A 4,100-ft. wildcat in Hillsdale County, Mich., will evaluate Trenton-Black River for Continental Resources Inc., Enid, Okla., but the program also includes the Prairie du Chien. The #1-36 McArthur et al. is about seven miles east of the town of Hillsdale in Section 36-6s-2w, Adams Township. The nearest production, now abandoned, came from the two-well Pittsford Section 7 Field. The field produced 1,200 bbl. of oil from Black River in 32 months online. Higher production came from #1 James E. Williams about two miles north-northwest on the southern border of Albion-Scipio Field. That 1983 well produced from the Van Wert interval of Black River from 3,964-70 ft. and produced 6,974 bbl. of oil between August 1983 and April 1989.



3 Shelby County, Ill., will host two wildcats aimed at Devonian as RK Petroleum Corp., Midland, Texas, tries its skill in the southern part of the county. The #1 Culver, in Section 4-9n-5e, about a mile south-southwest of Stewardson, will drill to 3,550 ft. more than two miles south-southwest of the closest producer in Stewardson Field. The field has produced 1.2 million bbl. of oil from Aux Vase at 1,950 ft. and Spar Mountain at 2,025 ft. The second wildcat, #1 Mouzin, in Section 6-10n-2e, is projected to 3,000 ft. about 20 miles west-northwest of #1 Culver. It is also four miles southeast of Pana and more than 1.5 miles south-southeast of Pana South Field. The seven wells in that field produce from Devonian Tulley at about 2,900 ft.



4 Aurora Energy Ltd., Traverse City, Mich., continues its remote wildcat campaign in Indiana with #A3-4 Hagenow about a half-mile east of Westville in the northwestern corner of the state, evaluating zones through Trenton to 1,950 ft. in Section 4-35n-4w in western La Port County, IHS Inc. reports. The well is about six miles northeast of the nearest with shows, a 1991 test in Porter County for six bbl. of oil and 150,000 cu. ft. of gas a day on pump from a Traverse zone between 296 and 303 ft. Although it was called the discovery for Valparaiso Field, it was never produced and the area was not developed. The nearest commercial production is 17 miles east-northeast in Fish Lake Field, a Devonian shale pool that was abandoned after producing 3,300 bbl. of oil.



5 Aurora Energy Ltd., Traverse City, Mich., has staked a Knox County, Ind., wildcat in Section 31-3n-9w about 3.9 miles northwest of Monroe City. The #1-31 Anson will test New Albany shale to 2,800 ft. The closest production is 2.8 miles southeast in Monroe City Consolidated Field, a McClosky pool.



6 A new-field wildcat will look for oil and gas to 6,000 ft. in Section 1, St. Clair Township, East Liverpool Quad, in Columbiana County, Ohio. Petro Evaluation Services, Wooster, Ohio, will drill #1 Beaverkettle about 3.5 miles northeast of Calcutta and 6.8 miles north of the nearest production in Chester-Pughtown Field. That field produces from Berea.



7 A pair of wildcats will test Black River lime to 6,296 ft. in Cayuga County, N.Y., for Ansbro Petroleum Co. LLC, Denver. Both wells will be drilled in Section I, Genoa Quad, Genoa Township, about 7.2 miles north of an unnamed Oriskany field. The #1 A K. Patchen is a reentry to Ansbro's #1 Patchen. That wildcat is 7.8 miles southwest of Moravia. The #1 Elkendale Farms is 8.3 miles southwest of Moravia. Both tests are proposed as directional wells, but the direction and bottomhole location were not disclosed.



8 Ergon Exploration Inc., Monroe, La., plans a 13,500-ft. wildcat to evaluate Upper Devonian for gas a few miles north of the Ohio River in Beaver County, western Pennsylvania. No well has been drilled to an equivalent depth anywhere nearby. Ergon's #1 DBC is about three miles north of Ohioville and immediately east of the Ohio state line. Ergon will drill the well in South Beaver Township, Midland Quad. The nearest production is a mile south in Blackhawk Field, originally developed as an Oriskany gas field but now used for gas storage. In the same county, Petro Evaluation Services, Wooster, Ohio, plans a 6,000-ft. Upper Devonian well in Section C, Ohioville Township, East Liverpool North Quad. That well is 2.5 miles northwest of Blackhawk Field and 3.9 miles northwest of Ohioville.



9 Three wildcats are in the planning stages for two operators in Greene County, Pa. Atlas Resources Inc., Uniontown, Pa., will drill #2 Hice and #3 Hice, both to Upper Devonian at 6,000 ft. to look for gas in Section F, Mather Quad, Jefferson Township. The #2 Hice is 1.3 miles east of the town of Jefferson and 1.6 miles north of Jefferson Field, a Speechley pool. The #3 Hice is 1.4 miles southeast of the town and 1.4 miles north of the field. American Oil & Gas LLC, Waynesburg, Pa., will drill #1 Earl & Irene Renner in the same county. That well is scheduled to Upper Devonian at 5,500 ft. in Section G, Garards Fort Quad, Perry Township about 8.5 miles north of Cassville, W.Va. and 1.7 miles southeast of Shannon Run Field, a Devonian shale producer.



10 Chesapeake Appalachia LLC, Oklahoma City, received a permit for a wildcat to 10,000 ft. to test Lower Silurian Tuscarora about nine miles east-northeast of New Martinsville in northern West Virginia. The #625531 Hohman is in Proctor District, Wileyville Quad, in Wetzel County. Previous production in this part of Wetzel County, including the inactive Lynn Camp Field, has come from Mississippian and Upper Devonian zones generally shallower than 3,500 ft., according to IHS Inc. Chesapeake owns some 3.5 million net acres in Appalachia, primarily in West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, eastern Ohio and southern New York with some 9,000 net drillsites.



11 Three wildcats in Grant District, Hurricane Quad, in Cabell County, W.Va., will evaluate Devonian shale for gas for Hard Rock Exploration Co., Charleston, W.Va. The #101 Ronnie Finley et al. is 4.2 miles northeast of the town of Milton and 1.9 miles north of Milton Field, a Devonian sand pool. The #102 Jane H. Boylin et al. is 4.1 miles northeast of the town and about the same distance from Milton Field. The final well, #103 Jane H. Boylin et al., is 4.4 miles northeast of the town and 2.3 miles north of the field.



12 Equitable Production Co., Kingsport, Tenn., will drill #V-537726 W.P. Grizzle wildcat to look for Devonian gas at 6,029 ft. in Russell County, Va. The well is in Castlewood District, Duty Quad, 5.3 miles north of the town of Cleveland and 1.5 miles south of Nora Field, a Pennsylvanian coal producer.



13 Three wildcats will look at Lower Devonian to 1,500 ft. in the same area of Morgan County in eastern Kentucky. NAFG LLC, Dallas, will drill #1 Terry McGuire et al. in Section 5-Q-74e in Ezel Quad about 9.8 miles west of West Liberty, Ky., and 4.3 miles north of the nearest production in Grassy Creek Field, a Corniferous pool. In the same section, the company will drill #1 Delbert Peyton et al. That well is 9.7 miles west of the town and 3.8 miles north of the field. The third well is #1 Barbara Gamble et al. in Section 4 of the same township. The well is 9.1 miles west of the town and 3.3 miles north of the field.



14 Two companies received permits for wildcats to different objectives in Metcalfe County in central Kentucky. Petrotech Resources Corp., Glasgow, Ky., will drill #1 Habitat Metcalfe School Fancher to Fort Payne at 500 ft. in Section 7-F-47e in Summer Shade Quad. The well is 1.2 miles west of Edmonton, Ky., and 1.3 miles southwest of Edmonton North Consolidated Field, a Fort Payne producer. The deeper well will be drilled to 1,999 ft. by Rick-Rod Well Services Co., Columbia, Ky. It will drill #1R Mike Kelley to Knox in Section 23-H-48e in East Fork Quad. The well is 9.7 miles northeast of Edmonton and 1.8 miles south of Pickett Consolidated Field, a pool that produces from Knox.



15 Daugherty Petro­leum Inc., a unit of NGAS Resources, Lexington, Ky., will test Clinton Shale to 4,150 ft. for gas at its DPI-#969 Ataya Hardwoods LLC wildcat in Section 20-A-68e, Forkridge Quad, in Claiborne County, Tenn. The well is 9.9 miles southwest of Middlesborough and 4.2 miles southwest of the nearest production from an unnamed field that produces from Monteagle.



16 Atlas America Inc., Moon Township, Pa., plans a pair of new-field wildcats to search for gas in the Seguatchie formation in Section 16-4s-61e in Fork Mountain Quad, Morgan County, Tenn. The HW-#1101 Heartwood Forestland Fund LP is scheduled to 4,280 ft. some 9.2 miles northeast of Wartburg and 1.3 miles northeast of an unnamed Knox field. The second wildcat is the HW-#1100 Heartwood Forestland Fund LP. That well is projected to 4,340 ft. about 9.1 miles northeast of the town and 1.1 miles north of the unnamed field.
