1 Denbury Onshore LLC, Plano, Texas, marked a discovery at its #1 Richards "35-2" wildcat on the northern flank of the Black Warrior Basin in Lamar County, Ala. The well, in Section 35-16s-14w near Kennedy Field, tested flowing 925,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from fracture-treated Lewis perforations between 3,866-86 ft. in the 4,100-ft. well. The company asked the Alabama State Oil & Gas Board for a field designation for Kennedy Northeast Field for four sections around the discovery, 25, 26, 35 and 36. Kennedy Field also produces from Lewis. The closest well in that field is more than three miles south-southwest of the Denbury well. That well, the #1 Carolyn Davis "15-3," was completed a year ago for 135,000 cu. ft. of gas a day. It produced 6.84 million cu. ft. of gas and 664 bbl. of water in its first two months online. 2 Two independents, Golden Petroleum Corp. and Black River Oil Corp., both of Traverse City, Mich. have teamed to drill a horizontal Niagaran wildcat in Section 12-24n-14w, Springdale Township in northeastern Manistee County, Mich. The #1-12HD1 State-Springdale & K&B is a mile northwest of Copemish and more than two miles southwest of an abandoned Niagaran producer in Colfax 31-25n-13w Field in neighboring Colfax County. There, the #2-31 State-Colfax produced a cumulative 149,094 bbl. of oil from Brow Niagaran between April 1987 and April 2002 from perforations between 5,037-43 ft., according to IHS Energy. 3 Muskegon Development Co., Mount Pleasant, Mich., took out a drilling permit to drill to Devonian Dundee at 4,000 ft. about 4.5 miles northeast of Mecosta in Mecosta County, Mich. The #1-34 Perry is in Section 34-15n-7w, Sheridan Township. The well is approximately 1.25 miles southwest of the discovery well for Sheridan Section 26 Field. That discovery, the #1 Theodore R., May et al. in Section 26, pumped 15 bbl. of oil and 40 bbl. of water a day from Devonian Traverse between 3,369-79 ft. It produced less than 200 bbl. of oil before the operator plugged it a year after it came onstream, according to IHS Energy. The nearest production from Dundee is three miles southwest in Wheatland Field, which produced 141,700 bbl. of oil from Dundee around 3,700 ft. between 1945 and 1960. 4 RK Petroleum Corp., Midland, plans to look at Silurian oil potential to 3,900 ft. with its #1 Decker Comm wildcat in Section 3-7n-5e in Effingham County, Ill. The well is about four miles west of the Effingham city limits and more than two miles northeast of Keptown field, which produces from Geneva dolomite. The discovery well in that field, the #1-7 Smith Trust, tested at 40 bbl. of oil and 40 bbl. of water a day from perforations between 3,731-33 ft. and produced 52,000 bbl. of oil through July 2004. Last January, RK staked another 3,900-ft. Silurian test 0.75-mile southwest for the #1 Barclay-Davis Comm, about 1.5 miles northeast of Keptown Field. 5 Nashville, Ill., independent Oelze Equipment Co. LLC has two wildcats in planning in western Washington County, Ill., on the southwestern flank of the Illinois Basin. The company will drill the #1 Ven-Oka Farms in Section 3-2s-5w about four miles south of the town of Venedy. That well will test Silurian to 2,600 ft. The sister well, the #1 Raphael Lintker Trust, is about four miles south-southwest in Section 29 of the same township. The Lintker well will go to 3,400 ft. to look at formations through Trenton. The only production in the township is from Stone Church Field more than three miles southeast of the Ven-Oka well and 3.5 miles east-northeast of the Lintker well. That field has produced 158,000 bbl. of oil since 2001 from six Siluro-Devonian wells. 6 Pioneer Oil Co., Lawrenceville, Ill., wants to examine oil-production potential in Devonian sediments at its 2,000-ft. #1 Peabody Coal wildcat in Section 35-14n-10w in southern Vermillion County, Ind. The well is about two miles west of the town of Universal. The site is more than four miles northwest of an unnamed 465-ft. Pennsylvanian coalbed-methane discovery completed 15 years ago. The closest Devonian oil production is more than 11 miles northeast in Montezuma Field. 7 A nonproducing, lightly drilled township in western Warrick County, Ind., will see action as Mount Carmel, Ill.-based Dee Drilling Co. plans three wildcats to evaluate Salem at 2,300 ft. The company's #1 Lake Group in Section 21-5s-9w is about five miles east-northeast of Evansville and 4.5 miles west-northwest of the closest producing well in Chandler Field, which produces from multiple zones. That field has produced 38,000 bbl. of oil from 11 wells in 21 years. To date, 10 dry holes have been drilled in the township. The company's #1 Newmaster, also targeting Salem lime at the same depth, is in Section 27 and the 2 Lake Group, scheduled to the same target, is in Section 32, according to IHS Energy. 8 Bakerwell Inc., Westerville, Ohio, staked a 3,900-ft. wildcat to Clinton Sand in search of oil and gas at its #1 Forrest Unit in Lot 7, Section 9, Russell Township, Russell Quad, in Geauga County, Ohio. The venture is 5.5 miles north of East Bainbridge Field, which produces from Clinton, and two miles north of the town of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, says IHS Energy. 9 The #1 Richard Shively wildcat will look at Trempealeau in Lot 36, Kingston Township, Kilbourne Quad in Delaware County, Ohio. Operator MFC Drilling, Coshocton, Ohio, will drill to 3,200 ft. in a search for oil and gas at the well. The wildcat is 2.5 miles southwest of an unnamed field that produces from the Black River Group and six miles east of the town of Delaware, Ohio. 10 Chemung County, N.Y., popular in recent years for its prolific Trenton-Black River gas wells will host another campaign as Warrendale, Pa.-based East Resources tests the Black River formation with two wildcats.
