1 Gibraltar Energy Co., El Dorado, Ark., has scheduled a 6,200-ft. wildcat in northeastern Clay County, Miss., to look for oil in the Lewis. The company's #1 Tumlinson "3-14" is in undrilled Section 3-17s-7e, about three miles southwest of the junction of Monroe and Lowndes counties in the Black Warrior Basin. The town of West Point is 4.5 miles west. The nearest producer is 3.25 miles north-northeast in Corinne Field. There, the #1 Weyerhaeuser "25-4" produced 123.72 million cu. ft. of gas, 218 bbl. of condensate and 98 bbl. of water from Lewis perforations from 5,912-18 ft. between 1983 and 1987, according to IHS Energy. Corinne Field has produced from Pennsylvanian and Mississippian pay zones since its discovery in 1972. 2 A Smackover discovery flowed 650 bbl. of oil and 1.58 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas a day in Escambia County, Ala., for Ventex Operating Corp., Dallas. The company's #1 ATIC "27-8" tested perforations between 14,246-74 ft. through a 19/64-in. choke with 1,434 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The well is in Section 27-3n-7e in the northwestern section of the county. The nearest production is a mile southwest at the single-well Smiths Church Northwest Field in Section 34. That discovery has produced 430,850 bbl. of oil, 1.07 billion cu. ft. of gas and 113,167 bbl. of water from Smackover perforations between 14,549 and 14,601 ft. The well produced 1,269 bbl. of oil, 5.15 million cu. ft. of gas and 3,144 bbl. of water in December. 3 RK Petroleum Corp., Midland, Texas, staked a wildcat looking for Silurian oil at 2,100 ft. in St. Clair County, Ill. The company's #1 Prunty Comm is in Section 15-2s-6w, about 2.2 miles west of the town of St. Libory, Ill. The vertical well is 1.6 miles southwest of St. Libory Northwest Field, which produces from Aux Vases, according to IHS Energy. 4 Blackford County, Ind., will host a new-field wildcat by Wrens Oil Field Recovery Co., Grayville, Ill. The company will look for pay in the Trenton formation at 1,016 ft. at its #1 Harry Banter in Section 6-24n-10e. The well is 1.6 miles south of Trenton Field, which gets its production from Trenton, and 6.5 miles southeast of the town of Van Buren, Ind. 5 Energy Conversion Corp., Anderson, S.C., scheduled two wildcats in a search for Pennsylvanian gas at 1,000 ft. in Knox County, Ind. The #1 Tolan is in Section 94-3n-9w about 1.2 miles east of Bruceville South Field, a Springfield coal producer. It also is 2.4 miles southeast of the town of Bruceville. The second well is the #1 Hatton-Piper in Section 94-4n-9w. That well is 2.1 miles east of Bruceville South Field and three miles southeast of the town of Bruceville. 6 Three wildcat wells are in the works for Westmoreland County, Pa. Patriot Exploration Corp., Acme, Pa. will look for Upper Devonian gas at 5,000 ft. That company's #1 Keller is in Section C, New Kensington East Quad, Allegheny Township, more than a mile east of Braeburn Field, an Upper Devonian producer. The well is 3.7 miles east of Lower Burell, Pa. Atlas Resources Inc., Moon Township, Pa., will operate the other two wells planned for natural gas production from the Fifth Sand at 4,000 ft. in Salem Township. The #1 Smith is in Section G, Satsburg Quad, about 1.8 miles west of Fifth Sand production in Whitehorn Creek Field and 5.3 miles west of New Alexandria, Pa. The company's other wildcat, the #5 Smith, is in Section A, Latrobe Quad. It is two miles south of Whitehorn Creek Field and 5.4 miles west of New Alexandria. 7 Atlas Resources Inc. also plans two wildcat wells in different parts of Fayette County, Pa. The company's #2 Lynch will drill to 5,000 ft. to evaluate Big Injun for gas. The well is in Section I, Donora Quad, Perry Township, about 1.7 miles from the Bellevernon Big Injun Field. It's 3.3 miles southwest of the town of Smithton, Pa. The second well is the #7 Bezjak. It also is planned to 5,000 ft., but it will look for gas in the Salt Sandstone in Section F, Masontown Quad, Nicholson Township. This well is 1.9 miles east of Greensbore Field, a Salt Sand reservoir, and 1.2 miles northeast of Greensboro, Pa., according to IHS Energy. 8 Dominion Exploration & Production Inc., Indiana, Pa., has a couple of Green County, Pa., wildcats in the works close to the Pennsylvania border with West Virginia. Both are mapped to 4,000 ft., but to different formations in different areas. The #2 H Rose will look for gas in Chadakoin in Section I, Oak Forest Quad, Whitely Township. Kirby Field, 1.5 miles west, produces from Chadakoin. The well is six miles northeast of Blacksville, W.Va. The second well, the #2 T J Hennen, will evaluate gas in Devonian. That well is in Section E, New Freeport Quad, Aleppo Township. A Devonian reservoir at Ashtree Field is 1.6 miles southeast. The well is 8.1 miles north of Hundred, W.Va. 9 Columbia Natural Resources Inc., Charleston, W.Va., plans to drill the #625600 HG Mitchell wildcat in search of Devonian gas at 5,650 ft. in Braxton County, W.Va. The well location is in Otter District, Gassaway Quad, about 6.1 miles northwest of Gassaway, W.Va. The nearest production is 1.9 miles north in an unnamed Mississippian field. 10 Devonian gas at 4,390 ft. is the objective of a wildcat scheduled by North Coast Energy Eastern Inc., Ravenswood, W.Va., in Kanawha County, W.Va. The company's #1042 Philip and Kimberly Johnson is in Poca District, Kenna Quad. The nearest production is from North Heaters Field, which produces from Big Lime 3.3 miles south. The town of Sutton, W.Va., is 3.1 miles north. 11 In Raleigh County, W.Va., Energy Search Inc. will drill a wildcat well to test the Weir Sand for natural gas at 5,900 ft. The Marietta, Ohio, company's #166 Beaver Coal Co. is in Shady Spring District, Crab Orchard Quad, 3.4 miles southeast of Coal City. The nearest production comes from Ravencliff at Rhodell Field 1.2 miles west, according to IHS Energy. 12 Dart Oil & Gas Corp., Mason, Mich., continued its campaign in Mercer County, W.Va., as it staked the #1 Hicks wildcat to look for gas in Berea at 3,500 ft. in Beaver Pond District, Bramwell Quad. The company's 32-acre lease is two miles southeast of Ashland Field, a Weir reservoir, and 1.8 miles south of Bramwell, W.Va. 13 J.D. Carty Resources Inc., Salyersville, Ky., plans a string of wildcats in Magoffin County, Ky., all looking for gas from the Big Six Sand at 2,999 ft. Wells include the #2 Harlan Rowe in Section 7-O-77e, the #1 Haden B and Phoebe Arnett in Section 14-O-77e, and the #2 Haden B & Phoebe Arnett in Section 14-O-77e. The #11, #12, #3, #5, #6 and #9 Haden B and Phoebe Arnett all are in Section 15-O-77e. The #4 Haden B and Phoebe Arnett is in Section 16-O-77e, and the #12 Haden B and Phoebe Arnett is in Section 6-O-77e. The wells are 6.2 miles to 7.5 miles southwest and west of Salyersville, Ky. 14 Unicorp Inc., Houston, says its geologists have staked a location for the initial well in a New Albany Shale program in Ohio County, Ky. It plans to drill the initial well to 2,700 ft., or to a depth that will adequately test the shale. If it finds commercial quantities of gas, Unicorp will take a 100% working interest (81.5% net revenue interest) in 7,678 acres in the area. "If this initial well is successful, then we will begin a drilling program to develop the entire 7,678 acres. Based on 80-acre spacing, this property would have the potential for approximately 90 wells," said Kevan Casey, Unicorp chief executive officer. 15 Lexington, Ky., independent Energy Associates LLC brought in a discovery flowing oil at a rate of 480 bbl. a day. The company's #4 Chambers-Patrick is in Section 6-C-64e, about 2.5 miles west of the town of Williamsburg in Whitley County, Ky. The well produced from Ordovician Murfreesboro Lime at a depth of 3,310 ft., or 90 ft. below the top of the formation. The natural fracture also flowed gas at an estimated 500,000 cu. ft. a day, according to IHS Energy. Nearby production, including wells operated by Energy Associates, produce gas from shallower Mississippian Big Lime. 16 Arnco Oil Co. Inc., Cookeville, Tenn., has scheduled two wildcats in Fentress County, Tenn., both planned to look for shallow Fort Payne gas.in Pall Mall Quad. The #1 Rigney-Upchurch will drill to 500 ft. in Section 23-A-56e 6.6 miles northeast of Jamestown, Tenn. The #2 Rigney-Upchurch is scheduled to 600 ft. a tenth-mile closer to Jamestown. Both wells are listed at 1.2 miles southeast of Blue Ridge Field, which produces from Fort Payne. 17 Huntsville, Tenn., independent Miller Petroleum Inc. set plans for a 6,500-ft. remote wildcat in nonproducing Roane County in eastern Tennessee. The #1 Eula Butler et al. will be drilled 1.5 miles northwest of the town of Oak Ridge in Section 6-7s-62e, Elverton Quad to look at natural gas zones through Knox. Fifteen miles southwest was the only well drilled in Roane County. That well, the #1 Roane County Industrial Park, in Section 7-8s-59e, was drilled to 5,997 ft. in 1981 and was plugged with no core taken nor a drillstem test conducted. The top of the Knox in that well was at 4,535 ft. The nearest production is 2.5 miles west-southwest at a shallow gas discovery in Morgan County.
