1 Headington Oil Co. LP, Dallas, is drilling toward a projected depth of 4,400 ft. in Lower Mississippian Warsaw at a Hamilton County, Ill., wildcat, reports IHS Energy Group. Headington's venture is the #36X-11 Dolan in Section 11-5s-7e. It's nearly a mile east of the largely inactive Thackeray Field, which has produced from Mississippian Cypress, Aux Vases, O'Hara and Salem at depths ranging from about 3,000 ft. to 4,300 ft. The publication notes Headington's test is offset to the west by a 5,611-ft. dry hole drilled in 1960 that penetrated Devonian Sand at 5,350 ft. 2 Projected depth is 5,200 ft. at the #1-2 Mills, a Devonian wildcat staked by Wichita Falls, Texas, independent Taubert Energy LLC in Jefferson County, Ill. The new location is in Section 2-1s-4e, about 0.75-mile southeast of Hickory Hill Field. There are dry holes between the new location and the field. 3 Illinois' Jasper County is the site of a new wildcat scheduled by Gib Woods Oil Co. Inc., Newton, Ill. The new test is the #1 Clark Community, in Section 18-7n-9e. Projected to a depth of 3,500 ft., the wildcat is designed to evaluate formations through Salem. About 0..5-mile northeast lies an exploratory well that yielded four bbl. of oil and 150 bbl. of water per day on pump from an openhole Mississippian Rosiclare interval at 2,923-29 ft. IHS Energy Group notes the test was incorporated into Gila Field but apparently never produced. 4 Salem, Ill., operator Shakespeare Oil Co. is set to drill to 2,650 ft. to test the oil potential of zones through Mississippian St. Louis at the #1 Thomas Jenkins et al., a newly staked wildcat in Section 20-O-23, Henderson County, Ky. Offsetting the new venture to the west is a 2,677-ft. dry hole drilled in 1981 where a drillstem test of Mississippian McClosky at 2,453-86 ft. recovered 10 ft. of mud with no reported shows. Half a mile east of the #1 Jenkins, in Section 16-O-24, is a 1976 discovery that was initially tested pumping two bbl. of oil and three bbl. of water per day from an openhole interval in O'Hara at 2,527-35. However, that well apparently never produced commercially. 5 West Bay Exploration Co., Traverse City, Mich., is drilling below 900 ft. at one Devonian Traverse Lime wildcat and has plans to drill another one to 1,400 ft. in Van Buren County, Mich. The active test is the 1,200-ft. #1-8 Adkin Farms in Section 8-1s-15w, Columbia Township. The yet-to-be-started venture is the #1-20 Dickerson in Section 20-1s-14w, Bloomingdale Township. According to IHS Energy Group, there has been no drilling in Van Buren County in nearly eight years. 6 Shiawassee County, Mich., is scheduled to get four 3,850-ft. wildcats, all to be drilled by Coye R. Davenport on the Shirley Mae Davenport lease in Section 2-8n-2e, Rush Township. All of the tests-the #1-2, #2-2, #3-2 and #4-2 in the NW/4 of Section 2-are to be drilled to Devonian Detroit River. The drillsites are nearly four miles southwest of 2,350-ft. Traverse Lime production in Chesaning Field. 7 Atlas Resources Inc., Moon Township, Pa., has moved in a rotary rig to drill the #1 Conrail, a 5,000-ft. Devonian exploratory test about a mile northwest of Luzerne Field in Fayette County, Pa. The venture is in Section B of Carmichaels Quad, Luzerne Township. Elsewhere in the county, Atlas has scheduled two 4,000-ft. wildcats at the #1 Rosa and, nearly 0.5-mile north and slightly west, the #4 Rosa in Fayette City Quad, Franklin Township. 8 Projected depth is 4,000 ft. at the #2-WES Donald Stewart, a recently staked Westmoreland County, Pa., Devonian wildcat scheduled to be drilled by Texas Keystone Inc., Pittsburgh. According to IHS Energy Group, the drillsite is in Wilpen Quad, Fairfield Township, about 4.5 miles from the nearest wells that produce gas from Devonian. 9 Another 4,000-ft. Devonian wildcat was staked recently, this one by Classic Oil & Gas Resources Inc., based in Nicholasville, Ky., in Logan County, W.Va. Classic's project is the #1 Spurlock, in Guyan District, Henlawsan Quad. The closest gas producers are a little more than a mile east and northwest of the #1 Spurlock. 10 Cambro-Ordovician Knox is the objective formation of the Knox Energy LLC #BRM-1010-36 The Brimstone Co., a Scott County, Tenn., wildcat that's being drilled toward a projected depth of 6,200 ft. The Bluefield, Va., operator's venture is in Section 24-3s-61e, Norma Quad. The company recently staked two more Knox ventures on the lease-the 5,200-ft. #BRM-1008-34 in Section 3-4s-61e, Fork Mountain Quad, and the 4,700-ft. #KE-23 in Section 15-3s-61e, Norma Quad. Approximately five to nine miles south-southwest of the active test, Knox Energy has an eight-well deep-gas exploratory program under way in neighboring Morgan County. 11 Tengasco Inc., Knoxville, reports it has again increased production in its 50,500-acre Swan Creek Field in Hancock County, Tenn., having completed the #3 R.D. Helton, producing an average of 70 bbl. of oil per day from 4,000 ft. in Ordovician Murfreesboro. This well, the fifth one in the company's 20-well drilling program, is in Section 6-1s-75e, Swan Island Quad. 12 Palmer Petroleum Inc., Shreveport, set pipe on bottom at 11,938 ft. in sidetrack hole and is waiting on a completion rig at the #1 Williams 1-4, a well that was originally set up as an 11,400-ft. Jurassic Haynesville test on the northwest flank of Alabama's North Monroeville Field. The Southeastern Oil Review reports the prospect is in Section 1-6n-7e, Monroe County. The well's proposed bottomhole location is nearly 0.5-mile northwest of the bottomhole for the company's #1 McCall 1-7, which was completed flowing 385 bbl. of oil per day on a 9/64-in. choke through perforations at 11,173-85 ft. in the Frisco City Sand of Haynesville. 13 S. Lavon Evans Jr. Operating Co. Inc., Laurel, Miss., stepped out about half a mile southwest of Southeast Watson Creek Field to drill and case the #1 Collins 12-11 in Section 12-15s-15w, Lamar County, Ala. Pipe is set at total depth 3,398 ft. The closest producer in the field tested 1.3 million cu. ft. of gas per day on a 16/64-in. choke from three perforated intervals between 2,742-63 ft. in Carter Sand at completion. Elsewhere in Lamar County, Armadillo Services Inc. of Alabama is set to drill a 3,300-ft. Paleozoic wildcat at the #1 Tensas-Ogden 11-9 in Section 11-14s-15w. The company is based in Raymond, Miss. 14 In Alabama's Pickens County, the #1 Burkhalter 1-3, a wildcat completed as a 5,930-ft. dry hole in 1999, is to be reentered and tested by Jabsco Oil Operating LLC, Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Southeastern Oil Review reports Jabsco plans to clean out to 5,927 ft. at the venture, in Section 1-19s-15w. Top of Mississippian Lewis Sand was logged at 5,720 ft. 15 Enid, Okla.-based Continental Resources Inc. has cased a Paleozoic wildcat in Lee County, Miss. Pipe is set at total depth 2,440 ft. at the #1 Scruggs 27-9 in Section 27-11s-6e. A little more than .25 mile southeast of the indicated discovery, a 2,700-ft. well yielded 98,000 cu. ft. of gas per day on a 14/64-in. choke through perforations at 2,101-06 ft. Log top of Evans Lime was picked at 2,079 ft., that of Lewis Lime at 2,262 ft. Meanwhile, in Mississippi's Monroe County, Continental extended the Nichols Creek Field about 0.5-mile west-northwest with the completion of the 3,970-ft. #1 Owings 3-15, flowing 393,000 cu. ft. of gas per day on a 9/64-in. choke. Located in Section 3-14s-18w, the stepout was tested through perforations at 2,523-27 ft. in Chandler Sand.
