Oil and gas industry-focused law firm Burleson LLP said Jan. 22 that three of its attorneys, all senior associates, earned certification in oil, gas and mineral law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. There is now a total of 10 attorneys with Board certification in oil, gas and mineral law, Burleson added, noting that this is more than any other firm or company in Texas.
Kene Chinweze, Brandon Durrett and Landon Speights earned their certifications. Chinweze and Speights are based in Houston, the firm said.
Chinweze focuses on oil and gas title matters, and began working in the energy sector as a petroleum landman.
Durrett, based in San Antonio, focuses on upstream transactions and regulatory work. He represents clients before the Railroad Commission, the firm said.
Speights focuses on the industry and environmental law, oilfield commercial litigation and midstream disputes.
Those who earn certification must be licensed for at least five years, devote a required percentage of their practice to a specialty area for at least three years, attend continuing education seminars, pass an evaluation by fellow lawyers and judges and pass a six-hour written examination.
Additionally, the Houston-based firm said that partner Matthew Brysacz earned Board certification in estate planning and probate law.
"Congratulations to Kene, Landon, Brandon, and Matt for achieving one of the highest possible endorsements in their practice areas," said Rick Burleson, managing partner. "Their accomplishments further underscore the dedication they bring to their work and the legal profession and reflect the firm's commitment to delivering clients the most seasoned and sought-after legal team serving the energy sector."
