Pioneer Oil Co. announced plans to drill a 4,200-ft vertical exploratory test in Henderson County, Ky. The wildcat, #1 Wilson & Keach, will target oil pays in Lower Devonian and will be in Section 20-P-25e. Several wildcats have been drilled in Section 20, including a 2,340-ft test drilled in 2008. The #1 Kuegel & Kamuf had some shows of oil in McClosky Lime at 2,254-73 ft. Other tests in the section were abandoned at around 2,350 ft. Nearby production is in Oak Grove Field, which was opened in 1950 and is about 1 mile southwest of Pioneer Oil’s venture – wells in the reservoir produce crude from numerous Mississippian pays. About 2 miles to the east is Hebbardsville Field, another Mississippian reservoir. To date, Lawrenceville, Ill.-based Pioneer Oil has drilled one test in Henderson County about 20 miles northwest of #1 Wilson & Keach. The #2 Tin City Hunt Club is in Smith Mills Consolidated Field and was drilled to 3,450 ft in 2016. The operator has set production casing to an unreported depth.
