A sidetrack of a deepwater appraisal test has been scheduled by Shell Oil Co. on its Whale prospect in Alaminos Canyon Block 728. The #2 (ST) OCS G31195 will be kicked off at 15,288 ft. The Lower Tertiary Whale discovery in Block 772 was announced in early 2018. The #1 (BP) OCS G35153 encountered more than 1,400 net ft of oil-bearing pay. Area water depth is 8,500 ft. The Whale discovery is operated by Houston-based Shell (60%) and co-owned by Chevron Corp. (40%).
