Drilling Activity Summary

Description

Traverse City, Mich.-based West Bay Exploration Co. is preparing to drill a 1,900-ft wildcat in Shelby County, Ill. The #1-17 Wolf will be in the far southwestern portion of the county in Section 17-9n-1e and is targeting oil pays in St. Genevieve. According to IHS Markit, an offsetting 400-ft test was abandoned in 1951. Numerous additional tests, all drilled to around 400 ft, were abandoned along the county line in the 1950s. Within 1 mile to the south-southwest in Fayette County is a deeper wildcat drilled in 1952 at #1 H. Summers in Section 19-9n-1e. It was abandoned at 3,035 ft. Nearby production in this part of Illinois is 3 miles to the southwest in Ramsey Northwest Field. Opened in 1990, two wells in the reservoir yielded crude through perforations in Devonian at 2,700-2,800 ft.
