Drilling Activity Summary

Description

88 Energy Ltd. announced that it will suspend operations at exploration well #2 Icewine on Alaska’s North Slope. According to IHS Markit, #2 Icewine, Section 9-4n-14e, Umiat Meridian, was designed to evaluate HRZ Shale. Its intermediate hole was drilled to 10,715 ft with the production interval drilled to approximately 11,400 ft. The company reported that results from the well support the potential economic viability of the HRZ Shale play and are within the range of outcomes achieved at other early-stage unconventional plays. Future plans include the drilling of a horizontal sidetrack with multi-stage stimulation, although “a more significant work program is now required to meaningfully de-risk the HRZ play further.” The #2 Icewine has reportedly achieved most of its objectives, such as acquisition of a more sophisticated logging suite to complement the core from #1 Icewine and to determine whether a large, slickwater stimulation could be executed successfully in HRZ. Additionally, the overpressure of the HRZ was quantitatively proven and the fracturing was able to traverse into both the upper and lower HRZ with no frac barriers. 88 Energy is based in Perth.
