Description
Rome-based Eni announced an offshore Cyprus gas discovery at the Calypso Prospect in Block 6. The #1 Calypso NFW was drilled to 3,827 m and hit an extended gas column in Miocene and Cretaceous rocks. The Cretaceous zone has excellent reservoir characteristics. Eni reported that the find is similar to the Zohr gas field and preliminary estimates indicate it could hold 6-8.1 Tcf of gas. Area water depth is 2,075 m. Additional testing and appraisal drilling is planned. Eni is the operator of Block 6 with 50% of participation interest with Total holding the remaining 50%.
