Intrepid Financial Partners said Oct. 1 it hired an acquisitions and divestitures team based in Houston and led by oil and gas industry veteran Antonio “Tony” Fernandez.

The newly formed group will sit within Intrepid’s advisory business and be dedicated to A&D advisory and transaction execution for the firm’s energy clients.

Fernandez will lead the A&D team as managing director. He joins Intrepid from JP Morgan, where he most recently served as a senior A&D banker, “leading numerous teams and successful A&D projects across most major U.S. unconventional plays,” according to the company press release.

Prior to JP Morgan, Fernandez was with Jefferies Group and also held numerous engineering roles at Noble Energy Inc. (NYSE: NBL) in the company’s domestic onshore, international deepwater and business development teams. He holds a Master’s degree of engineering in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University, a Bachelor’s degree from Duke University and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas.

Intrepid’s A&D team will also consist of Robert Willis and Stevenson Bunn, both of whom join from Apache Corp. (NYSE: APA). At Apache, Willis and Dunn have both held a variety of engineering and geology roles—Willis most recently as a reservoir engineer and Dunn as a geologist.

“As we thought through how to expand our business, adding dedicated A&D capabilities was a logical next step for Intrepid,” Christopher Winchenbaugh, co-founder and president of Intrepid, said in a statement. “The creation of a center of excellence focused exclusively on asset-level transactions will be a nice complement to our best-in-class corporate and strategic advisory business. I look forward to having Tony, Robert and Stevenson on the team.”

Intrepid’s A&D team will add expanded technical, engineering and geological expertise to the bank’s suite of advisory services and will work closely with its existing energy bankers.
