1 A horizontal Niobrara lateral initially flowed 1.2 million cu. ft. of gas and 240 bbl. of condensate per day in Jackson County, Colo. Wellstar Corp.’s North Park Basin wildcat, #35-2 Silver Spur Minerals, is in Section 35-8n-78w. The venture’s pilot hole was drilled to about 8,600 ft., after which the lateral in Niobrara was kicked off and drilled to a projected measured total depth of 10,447 ft. The Northglenn, Colo.-based company has not released additional details.

2 Chesapeake Operating Inc., Oklahoma City, completed another horizontal Niobrara producer in the southern Powder River Basin in Converse County, Wyo. The #35-73 10-1 Spillman Draw Unit initially flowed 363 bbl. of 41-degreegravity oil, 325,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,360 bbl. of load water per day. The venture is in Section 10-35n-73w and produces from a lateral extending from 10,985 ft. northwestward to 17,810 ft. Tested on a 16/64-in. choke, the casing pressure was 1,600 psi following fracture stimulation between 12,750 and 17,664 ft.

3 In the southern Powder River Basin, Chesapeake Operating Inc. completed a horizontal Niobrara discovery. Chesapeake’s #33-72 14-1H Wagonhound is in Section 14-33n-72w of Converse County, Wyo. The initial flow rate was 210 bbl. of 41-degree-gravity oil, 120,000 cu. ft. of gas and 273 bbl. of load water per day. The venture produces from a fractured Niobrara interval at 12,075-15,055 ft. The Niobrara lateral was drilled to 15,216 ft., 11,317 ft. true vertical.

4 A Minnelusa offset discovery was reported in the eastern Powder River Basin by Ballard Petroleum Holdings LLC. The offset produced at a calculated rate of 798 bbl. of 23-degree-gravity oil and 200 bbl. of water per day. Ballard’s #22-8 Fowler is in Section 8-54n-67w of Crook County, Wyo., and produces from an untreated Minnelusa C sand interval at 5,808-12 ft. According to IHS Inc., a 9-hour swab test of the Minnelusa C interval recovered 300 bbl. of oil and 75 bbl. of water. Ballard’s headquarters are in Billings, Mont.

5 A Niobrara discovery in a previously non-producing northwestern Denver-Julesburg Basin township was reported by Anadarko Petroleum Inc. The #12-65-13-4H Atchison is in Section 13-12n-65w of Laramie County, Wyo. The well produced 211 bbl. of 34-degree-gravity oil, 160,000 cu. ft. of gas and 230 bbl. of water during a 22-hour flow test. Production is from an open-hole horizontal Niobrara interval at 8,772-12,424 ft. and was fractured in 18 stages. The Niobrara lateral extends from 8,739 ft. east-southeastward to 12,500 ft. and the true vertical depth is 8,271 ft. Anadarko is based in Houston.

6 Two high-volume horizontal Bakken exploratory completions in Roosevelt County, Mont., were announced by EOG Resources Inc. The #1-2423H Stateline is in Section 24-28n-59e and produced 5,375 bbl. of oil, 3.62 million cu. ft. of gas and 12,960 bbl. of load water from Middle Bakken in 15 days during August, its first month online. Drilling plans called for it to be horizontally drilled westward to a proposed measured total depth of 15,972 ft. at a bottomhole location in Section 23-28n-59e. True vertical total depth was anticipated at 10,327 ft. Two miles to the north in Section 12-28n-59e, #10-1211H Stateline produced 3,385 bbl. of oil, 2.19 million cu. ft. of gas and 11,239 bbl. of load water from Middle Bakken in 10 days during August, its first month online. It was designed to be drilled westward to a projected measured total depth of 15,590 ft. at a bottom-hole location in Section 11-28n-59e. True vertical total depth was expected at 10,347 ft. 7 In northeastern McKenzie County, N.D., North Plains Energy LLC of Denver completed a horizontal Bakken producer in a new producing area. The #9-9H Flatland is in Section 9-153n-97w and pumped 15,000 bbl. of oil from Middle Bakken ready for sale at the end of September. The exploratory test produces from a fractured horizontal lateral at 11,239-19,260 ft. The bottomhole location is in Section 4-153n-97w and the true vertical depth is 10,882 ft.

8 A record-setting Middle Bakken horizontal discovery was reported by Whiting Oil & Gas Corp. The Williston Basin well, #21-4H Tarpon-Federal, is in Section 4-152n-97w of McKenzie County, N.D. The producer initially flowed 7,009 bbl. of oil equivalent (4,815 bbl. of oil and 13.16 million cu. ft. of gas) per day following a 30-stage fracturing with sliding sleeves. A horizontal lateral in Middle Bakken was drilled southward to 20,307 ft. and the bottomhole location is in Section 9-152n-97w. True vertical total depth is 10,575 ft. The Denver-based company owns a 56% working interest and a 45% net revenue interest in the well. The company has controlling interests in four 1,280-acre Tarpon prospect spacing units and reportedly has the potential to drill a total of 12 Middle Bakken and eight Three Forks wells within the units.

9 According to IHS Inc., New-field Exploration Co.’s #152-96-4-2H Wisness-Federal flowed 3,731 bbl. of 42-degreegravity oil, 8.8 million cu. ft. of gas and 1,250 bbl. of load water per day. The high-volume producer is on the Nesson Anticline in Section 4-152n-96w of McKenzie County, N.D. The well had a 24-hour average of 5,200 bbl. of oil equivalent per day. Production comes from a 5,300-ft. horizontal lateral in Middle Bakken extending from 10,710 ft. northward to 16,003 ft. Flow was gauged on a 36/64-in. choke with a tubing pressure of 2,040 psi. It was tested following 26 stages of fracture stimulation. Newfield’s headquarters are in Houston.

10 In western North Dakota’s Heart Butte Field area on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation,

Dakota-3 E&P Co. completed two new horizontal Bakken producers in Dunn County. The #1-12H Skunk Creek is in Section 1-148n-93w and initially flowed 472 bbl. of oil, 586,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,990 bbl. of load water per day. The well produces from a two-section horizontal Middle Bakken lateral extending from 11,500 ft. southward to 19,558 ft. with a bottomhole location in Section 12-148n-93w. True vertical total depth is 10,490 ft. After 17-stage fracture stimulation the well was tested on an unreported choke size with a flowing casing pressure of 2,930 psi. The #15-32H Packineau is in Section 32-149n-92w and initially flowed 824 bbl. of oil, 289,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,265 bbl. of load water daily. A one-section horizontal Middle Bakken lateral extends from 10,501 ft. north-northwestward to 15,134 ft. Gauged on a 16/64-in. choke following 10-stage fracturing, the flowing casing pressure was 2,407 psi. Dakota-3 E&P Co. is based in Tulsa.

11 In Renville County, N.D.,

Fram Operating LLC completed a wildcat that initially pumped 105 bbl. of 27.2-gravity oil, 73,000 cu. ft. of gas and 75 bbl. of water per day. The #1 Funke is in Section 25-160n-86w and produces from an acidized interval at 5,238-44 ft. in the Bluell member of Mission Canyon (Madison). The well was vertically drilled to 5,590 ft. and cased to 5,588 ft. after encountering 32 net ft. of oil-bearing pay zones, according to Fram. The #1 Funke is the first of six permitted Madison tests to be drilled by Fram in Renville County. Fram holds leases covering 10,863 acres in Renville County that it believes are prospective for oil from Mission Canyon.
