?1 A Ruby Valley wildcat is being drilled 24 miles southeast of Spring Creek, Nev., by Oklahoma City-based Charter Oak Production. The #1-11 Ruby Valley is in Section 11-30n-60e, southern Elko County. Pipe has been set at 4,900 ft. at the planned 5,500-ft. well, but project objectives have not been specified by Charter Oak. The well is about 54 miles east-northeast of Pine Valley’s Blackburn Field in Eureka County, which has produced oil from Indian Well, Chainman, and Nevada. Several wells have been drilled within a five-mile radius since the 1970s, and with the exception of the Pine Valley/Blackburn Field producer, all have been dry holes.

2 Samson Resources Co. reports initial gas flow rates of 1.95 million cu. ft. per day, with one bbl. of condensate and three bbl. of water daily from a vertical Baxter producer, six miles northwest of Superior, Wyo. The #41-3 APC is in Lot 1 of Section 3-21n-103w, Sweetwater County, and produces from a fractured Baxter interval at 4,919-29 ft. Flow was measured through a 21/64-in. choke with a tubing pressure of 700 psi and a casing pressure of 890 psi. The new producer is in the Leucite Hills Field area, and was drilled and cased to a total depth of 5,123 ft. The top of Baxter was logged at 4,919 ft. Samson has two nearby locations staked; #13-35 APC and #13-27 APC. The company is based in Tulsa.

3 Dallas-based EXCO Resources Inc. is reporting initial gas flow rates of more than 2.39 million cu. ft. and 500 bbl. of water daily from an exploratory test on the northern flank of the Wind River Basin in Wyoming. The #13-1 Birdseye is north of Shoshoni, Wyo., in Section 13-39n-94w, Fremont County. Eight fractured Lance intervals are producing between 8,418 and 12,644 ft. Flow was measured through a 64/64-in. choke with a casing pressure of 140 psi. The test well was drilled to a total depth of 13,521 ft., then plugged back to 12,740 ft. for Lance completion. IHS Inc. reported log tops at Upper Fort Union, 4,350 ft.; Waltman shale, 6,300 ft.; Lower Fort Union, 7250 ft.; and Lance at 7,900 ft.

4 A stepout by?Austin independent Brigham Exploration Co. has recovered oil on a drillstem test of Red River at the company’s new field in Sheridan County, Mont., about nine miles southeast of Plentywood. Brigham’s #1-31 Friedrich-Trust has a proposed bottom-hole location in Section 31-34n-56e, and was set up as an 11,274-ft. test to Winnipeg. The well experienced minimal pressure drawdown during testing and will be placed into production before the first quarter of 2009. Brigham owns a 77% working interest and an approximate 59% revenue interest in the producer. The site is on a 320-acre spacing unit covering the northern half of Section 31.

5 A Powder River wildcat by?Midland-based Trend Exploration I LLC was completed about 12 miles from Recluse, Wyo. The Campbell County wildcat initially pumped 99 bbl. of 43.7-gravity oil per day, with no gas or water. The #33-1R Trend-Federal, in Lot 15 of Section 1-54n-72w, produces from an untreated Muddy interval at 6,938-46 ft. and was drilled and cased to a total depth of 8,690 ft. Trend plugged back to 7,010 ft. for the completion attempt in Muddy after a failed drillstem test of the deeper Minnelusa. Log tops include Mowry at 6,635 ft.; Muddy, 6,834 ft.; Skull Creek, 6,958 ft.; Dakota sand, 7,148 ft., and Minnelusa at 8,499 ft. Trend has two nearby locations staked in Sections 11-54n-72w and 3-54n-72w, and no activity has been reported at either site.

6 In the southern Powder River Basin about 30 miles northeast of Douglas, Wyo., Black Hills Exploration & Production Inc. has completed an offset to the company’s discovery initially pumping 134 bbl. of oil per day. The #43-18H Breckenridge Unit, in Section 18-35n-67w, eastern Converse County, also produced 63,000 cu. ft. of gas and 97 bbl. of water per day. Production is from a horizontal interval in the Upper Cretaceous Teapot sand at 7,170-8,590 ft. following fracture stimulation through five port sleeves. The lateral in Teapot extends eastward from 6,722 ft. to a measured total depth of 8,841 ft. at a bottom-hole location in Section 17-35n-67w. True vertical total depth is 6,011 ft. A production liner with five swell packers was set in the lateral between 6,652 and 8,821 ft. The top of Teapot was logged at a measured depth of 6,147 ft. Black Hills Exploration is based in Rapid City, S.D., and has a 100% working interest in the nine-million-acre Breckenridge Unit.

7 Six miles west of Williston, N.D., Brigham Exploration Co. has completed a horizontal exploratory test that initially flowed 1,200 bbl. of oil and 1.4 million cu. ft. of gas per day. Located in Section 10-154n-102w, southwestern Williams County, #10-15 1H Olson is producing from a horizontal lateral in Middle Bakken following a 20-stage fracture stimulation. Brigham set 19 swell packers in the long lateral, which was drilled on a 1,280-acre spacing unit comprising all of Sections 10 and 15. Brigham owns a 100% working interest and an 80% revenue interest in the well: additional details are not available.

8 Initial flow rates of 544 bbl. of oil, 707,000 cu. ft. of gas and 70 bbl. of water per daily are reported at a Bakken discovery?by Houston-based Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Co. LP (ConocoPhillips). The horizontal wildcat is on the Nesson Anticline about 22 miles northeast of Watford City, N.D. The #41-1H Midnight Run is on Lot 1 of irregular Section 1 of Township 152n-96w, northeastern McKenzie County. IHS Inc. reports that production is from nine fractured stages between 10,790 and 20,591 ft. in a horizontal Middle Bakken lateral. The lateral extends from 10,718 ft. southward to a measured total depth of 20,960 ft. at a bottom-hole location in Section 12-152n-96w. Flow was measured through a 12/64-in. choke with a casing pressure of 3,250 psi, and a production liner was set between 9,798 and 20,680 ft.?Formation tops include Bakken at 10,456 ft. (10,337 ft. true vertical depth) and Middle Bakken at 10,530 ft. (10,360 ft. true vertical depth).

9 Windsor Energy Group LLC of Oklahoma City has completed a horizontal Middle Bakken producer, including the northwestern-most producer to date in Parshall Field, initially flowing 2,205 bbl. of oil and 1 million cu. ft. of gas per day. The #1-7H Whitmore is located in Lot 1, Section 7-154n-90w, central Mountrail County, about 10 miles south-southeast of Stanley. The well produces from a fractured horizontal Middle Bakken lateral at 9,860-14,970 ft., and the bottomhole location is in the same section. Flow was gauged through a 24/64-in. choke with a tubing pressure of 1,450 psi. A production liner was set in the lateral between 9,120 and 14,965 ft. The top of Bakken was logged at 9,800 ft., 9,625 ft. true vertical depth.

10 A recently completed horizontal stepout by Marathon Oil Corp. in the Reunion Bay Field discovery about eight miles south of New Town, N.D., flowed 600 bbl. of oil, 524,000 cu. ft. of gas, and 322 bbl. of water per day. The #34-22H Bottleson is in Mountrail County, Section 22-151n-93w, and is producing from a fractured open-hole horizontal lateral in Middle Bakken extending from 10,894 ft. northward to a measured total depth of 19,826 ft. True vertical total depth is 10,519 ft., and the bottomhole location is in Section 15-151n-93w. Flow was measured through a 16/64-in. choke with a casing pressure of 1,200 psi. Formation tops include Upper Bakken at 10,610 ft. (10,502 ft. true vertical depth) and Middle Bakken at 10,658 ft. (10,520 ft. true vertical depth). The Marathon well was drilled on a 1,280-acre spacing unit comprising all of sections 15 and 22.
