Tallgrass Energy LP said Feb. 7 that Matthew (Matt) Sheehy is set to become president and CEO of Tallgrass as part of a CEO transition that sees William R. (Bill) Moler moving into a new phase of his career.
“I have worked with Matt since our company’s inception,” Moler commented in the release. “I am excited about Tallgrass’ prospects and growth opportunities with him at the helm as president and CEO.”
Based in Leawood, Kan., Tallgrass is an energy infrastructure company owned by an investor group led by Blackstone Infrastructure Partners and including Enagás SA, GIC, NPS and USS.
Moler was named CEO in November 2019, succeeding the company’s founder David Dehaemers Jr. He had previously been promoted to president in March 2019 after serving as executive vice president and COO since Tallgrass’ inception in 2012.
Effective July 1, Moler will step down as CEO and become non-executive chairman of the Tallgrass board. He will also become a senior adviser for Blackstone Infrastructure Partners.
“I want to congratulate Bill on tackling the next phase of his career,” Sheehy said in the release. “He leaves an incredible legacy at Tallgrass, and I’m honored to follow in his footsteps.”
Sheehy originally joined Tallgrass Energy at its inception in 2012 and held a number of roles, including president of Rockies Express Pipeline LLC and senior vice president and chief commercial officer for Tallgrass Energy.
He left Tallgrass in early 2018 to serve as chairman of Bridger Aerospace Group–a leading aerial firefighting company and a Blackstone portfolio company but rejoined the company as president in December 2019.
“As president and CEO, I look forward to building on Bill’s legacy as Tallgrass looks to play an integral role in accelerating the energy transition,” Sheehy added.
Tallgrass Director Matthew Runkle, a senior managing director in Blackstone’s Infrastructure Group, also added, “Matt’s broad industry experience, knowledge of Tallgrass and clear leadership skills position him well for future success. As for Bill, Blackstone is incredibly pleased that he will remain involved with Tallgrass and its team in its next phase of growth.”
