1 Chesapeake Operating Inc. completed a Delaware Basin well that flowed 1.2 million cu. ft. of gas and 991 bbl. of water. The Culberson County (RRC Dist. 8), Texas well, #1 DF Ranch 62-6, flowed from Morrow perforations after acid- and fracture-stimulation at 8,572-8,616 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was 840 psi on a 48/64-in. choke. Shut-in tubing pressure was 3,515 psi and absolute open flow was calculated at 1.3 million cu. ft. of gas daily. The well is on a 703-acre lease in Section 6, Block 63, T1S, T&P RR Co. Survey, A-5293. Log tops reported are Wolfcamp at 6,480 ft., Strawn at 7,517 ft. and Morrow at 8,433 ft. The well has been placed in Whitehorse Field. Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake is active at several nearby locations.

2 Another Delaware Basin well was completed in Toyah Northwest Field, in Reeves County (RRC Dist. 8), Texas, by Chesapeake Operating Inc. The operator’s #1H Darden State 71-26 tested 6.13 million cu. ft. of gas, 13 bbl. of 59.7-degree condensate and 512 bbl. of water daily. Commingled zones in the horizontal well are 10,259-10,311 ft. in Morrow, 10,458-10,667 ft. in Barnett shale and 11,233-15,735 ft. in Woodford. The well was acidized and fracture-stimulated. With a 27/64-in. choke, the flowing pressure was 2,000 psi and the shut-in casing pressure was 4,295 psi. Absolute open flow was calculated at 7.98 million cu. ft. per day. The new producer was drilled to 15,850 ft. in Section 26, Block 71, PSL Survey, A-5427. Log tops include Wolfcamp at 9,030 ft., Morrow at 9,950 ft., Barnett at 10,458 ft. and Woodford at 11,040 ft.

3 Lazy 17 East Field is the site of a new-pay discovery by Palomino Petroleum Inc. The producer is in the Hugoton Embayment about 12 miles northwest of Ness City, Kan., and initially pumped 105 bbl. of oil per day from Fort Scott at 4,337-41 ft. The Ness County well, #1 Dixon Trust, is in Section 20-17s-25w and was drilled to 4,573 ft. Palomino’s well is a northeast offset to a Lazy 17 East Field confirmation also drilled by the operator. About a mile southeast of Lazy 17 East Field, Newton, Kan.-based Palomino was completing #1 Patricia, a 4,500-ft. test to Mississippian.

4 Independent John O. Farmer Inc. of Russell, Kan., has scheduled a 3,675-ft. exploratory test targeting Lansing-Kansas City and Arbuckle on the Central Kansas Uplift north of Bogue, Kan. The #1 Johnson is in Section 20-7s-21w, Graham County. The test is about a half mile northeast of Farmer’s #1 Frasca in Section 29-7s-21w, which was completed in 2008 as an Arbuckle oil discovery to open Holsman Northeast Field. The discovery well was drilled to 3,645 ft. and produced 327 bbl. of oil in December 2008, its first month of reported production. The new well is within two miles of the Insley Field opener, #1 Insley, which was completed in 2004. This 3,712-ft. discovery has produced 7,139 bbl. of oil and March 2009 output was 167 bbl. of oil.

5 Newfield Exploration Co. of Houston has reported an average 22-million-cu.-ft.-per-day initial production rate for seven recent high-volume horizontal completions in the Anadarko Basin in Wheeler County, Texas.

In Section 4, Camp CSL Survey, A-24, #7H McCoy 27 flowed 25 million cu. ft. of gas and 1,900 bbl. of condensate daily from a 3,400-ft. Des Moines Granite Wash lateral. The #8H McCoy 27 produced 21 million cu. ft. of gas with 1,230 bbl. of condensate per day in March 2009, and to date has recovered 1.25 billion cu. ft. equivalent from a 3,600-ft. lateral in the Granite Wash. The #27-10H McCoy flowed 12 million cu. ft. of gas and 280 bbl. of condensate from a 2,900-ft. horizontal section.

In Section 5, Block 5, B&B Survey, A-4, #5H Thomas 5 is an offset lateral to #7H McCoy 27 and initially flowed 20 million cu. ft. per day.

In Section 33, Block RE, Roberts & Eddleman Survey, #7H Williams 33 produced 21 million cu. ft. of gas and 570 bbl. of condensate per day.

In April 2009, #3H Britt D4 in Section 4, Block 1, B&B Survey, A-8630, flowed 21 million cu. ft. of gas daily from a 3,900-ft. lateral. Finally, #13H Britt Ranch I4, Section 4, Block 2, B&B Survey, A-8275, flowed 8 million cu. ft. of gas with 180 bbl. of condensate per day on completion in a 2,900-ft. Des Moines leg. Newfield plans 14 additional horizontal Granite Wash wells in 2009.

6 In Mills Ranch Field in the Anadarko Basin, Tulsa-based Sanguine Gas Exploration LLC completed #1024 Doug at a flow rate of 356 bbl. of 47-gravity oil, 567,000 cu. ft. of gas and 330 bbl. of water per day. The well is in Section 24, Block A-7, H&GN Survey, A-865, and produces from two fractured and acidized Des Moines intervals at 12,172-12,830 ft. and 13,164-13,450 ft. The 13,750-ft. well is in Wheeler County (RRC Dist.10), Texas.

7 On the northern flank of the Fort Worth Basin, a horizontal Barnett shale well was completed in the Montague County (RRC Dist. 9), Texas, portion of Newark East Field. EOG Resources’ #1H Bowen A Unit had an initial daily potential of 442 bbl. of crude, 1.17 million cu. ft. gas, and 629 bbl. of water through acid- and fracture-stimulated perforations at 9,000-12,619 ft. Located in the Washington Edwards Survey, A-227, the well’s total depth was 12,740 ft., 7,793 true vertical, with a bottomhole location to the northwest beneath the Richard Blaney Survey, A-64. EOG Resources’ headquarters are in Houston.

8 Gas flowed at 4.11 million cu. ft. per day from a St. Mary Land & Exploration Co. producer in Coal County, Okla. Tested in a horizontal Woodford interval in the Arkoma Basin, #4-5 Billy is in Section 32-2n-11e. The production interval is between 10,756 ft. and 15,045 ft. and the well was stimulated with a 15-stage frac job. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 390 psi on a 64/64-in. choke. Measured and true vertical depths are 15,173 ft. and 10,081 ft. respectively. St. Mary is headquartered in Denver.

9 XTO Energy of Fort Worth has staked two exploratory tests in the southeastern portion of Madison County (RRC Dist. 3), near Midway, Texas. The #1 Byrd will be drilled to 13,800 ft. in the Rebecca Robbins Survey, A-188. To the north-northwest, #1 Farris is slated to reach 12,500 ft. in the James Bozeman Survey, A-47, with Glen Rose the apparent objective. Comparable recovery is in the Rebecca Robins Survey, a mile southwest of the proposed #1 Byrd.

10 In Tyler County (RRC Dist. 3), Texas, a horizontal Austin Chalk well has been completed in Magnolia Springs Field by Anadarko Petroleum Corp. The Houston-based company’s well, #1 Black Stone Minerals A-175 Unit, in the Robert Conn Survey, A-175, was tested flowing 2.19 million cu. ft. gas, 4 bbl. of 53-degree condensate and 1,602 bbl. of water per day through an openhole interval at 13,436-17,818 ft. On a 40/64-in. choke, the flowing and shut-in tubing pressures were gauged at 1,104 psi and 5,915 psi, respectively. Absolute open flow was calculated at more than 2.22 million cu. ft. per day.

11 A Rodessa wildcat has been completed by Caruthers Producing Co. in Cummings East Field. The wildcat is in Miller County near Garland, Ark. The #1 Frost Heirs pumped 100 bbl. of 28-degree oil per day through acid- and fracture-treated perforations at 4,913-18 ft. Located in Section 36-16s-26w, the discovery was drilled to 5,500 ft. and plugged back to 5,125 ft. Comparable recovery is in Cummings Field: in 1997, the #1 Moore was tested in the Rodessa through perforations at 5,142-48 ft. and flowed 131 bbl. of 30.3-degree crude daily.
