1 Downing-Nelson Oil Co., Hays, Kan., completed a wildcat 2.5 miles east of Victoria, Kan., in southeastern Ellis County. The #1-10 Goetz, in Section 10-14s-16w, was completed pumping 52 bbl. of oil per day, with no water, from a lightly acidized openhole interval in the Arbuckle between 3,514-21 ft. The well is 0.66-mile northeast of four-well-pool Hertel Field on the Central Kansas Uplift. 2 Wichita, Kan.-based Red Oak Energy Inc. completed an oil producer eight miles south-southwest of Sharon Springs on the western Kansas salient of the Las Animas Arch in southwestern Wallace County. The 5,200-ft. #1-6 Popp/Smith, in Section 6-15s-40w, recovered 898 bbl. of oil during June and 1,796 bbl. in July, but the company had not released completion information at press time. The new well, which is in a previously nonproducing township, is 4.5 miles east-northeast of the closest producer in Okeson Field. The #1-8 Okeson was a marginal completion in the Lower Morrow between 4,977-86 ft., according to IHS Energy. 3 Washington County Oil & Gas LLC, Fayetteville, Ark., staked two wildcats more than a mile apart in the west-central portion of Washington County, northwestern Arkansas. The #1 Bob Bush, in Section 1-14n-33w, and the Troy Osburn, in Section 2 of the same township, are slated to reach the Sylamore at a total depth of 700 ft. The closest producer is four miles northeast of #1 Bob Bush in High Ocean Field. That seven-well field yielded a total of 169.65 million cu. ft. of gas and 92 bbl. of oil through 1998, 10 years after it was opened. 4 Littleton, Colo.-based Potoco LLC staked a wildcat in northern Scott County, about five miles east of the Sebastian County line, in western Arkansas. The #1-13 J. Hattabaugh, in Section 13-4n-30w, is set to reach the Lower Hartshorne at 1,500 ft. The Hartshorne produces in Chambers and Hartford fields some 15 miles west in western Sebastian County. Cumulative production for both fields is 4.49 billion cu. ft. of gas. 5 Ardmore, Okla.-based Keith F. Walker Oil & Gas Co. LLC completed a wildcat flowing gas at an average rate of 2.46 million cu. ft. daily. The #1-35 Vocals is in Section 35-3n-7ecm, eight miles south of Keyes, Okla., in Cimarron County. The well produced 76.2 million cu. ft. of gas during its first full month onstream. The company initially tested the 5,106-ft. well flowing 102,000 cu. ft. of gas per day through perforations in the Marmaton between 4,032-42 ft. through an unreported choke. It also recovered water during production tests of the Morrow between 4,560 and 4,738 ft., according to IHS Energy. The nearest production, now abandoned, was two miles west from Middle Morrow. 6 Devon Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, completed a wildcat in southern Hughes County, four miles southeast of Gerty in southeastern Oklahoma. The #1-26 Edwards, in Section 26-4n-10e, flowed 1.06 million cu. ft. of gas per day during tests in the Mississippian Woodford Shale in a horizontal leg between 7,812 and 9,331 ft. Total depth of the well is 9,933 ft. At the surface, the well is three miles west-northwest of #1-29 Poe, which produced 28 million cu. ft. of gas in its first four months online. 7 Yates Petroleum Corp., Artesia, N.M., completed a deeper-pool discovery flowing 1.9 million cu. ft. of gas, four bbl. of condensate and eight bbl. of water daily through perforations between 11,607-64 ft. in the Atoka. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 550 psi on a 24/64-in. choke. The #1 Vince "BGH," in Section 30-9s-35e in Lea County, N.M., was drilled to a total depth of 12,655 ft. The well offsets Jenkins Field. 8 Parallel Petroleum Corp., Midland, Texas, staked a wildcat about 3.5 miles south-southwest of Hagerman, N.M., in the southern portion of Chaves County. The #1 Affirmed, in Section 33-14s-26e, is projected to Wolfcamp at 9,300 ft., with a true vertical depth of 5,244 ft. The proposed surface location is more than a half-mile south-southeast of #1 Drumm Com, the Buffalo Valley West Field opener. 9 Fort Worth, Texas-based Range Production Co. staked a wildcat in northern Roberts County, Texas, (RRC 10) to target the Atoka and Upper and Middle Morrow. The #1222 Payne Trust, in Section 222, Block 42, H&TC Survey, A-944, is projected to a total depth of 10,000 ft. 10 Chesapeake Operating Inc., Oklahoma City, completed two Des Moines Granite Wash wildcats in eastern Wheeler County, Texas (RRC 10). The #1-23 Stiles Ranch, in Section 23, Block A-3, H&GN Survey, A-206, almost 13 miles east-northeast of the town of Wheeler, had an initial flow rate of 2.1 million cu. ft. of gas, 100 bbl. of 52-degree gravity condensate and 359 bbl. of water per day through fracture-stimulated perforations between 12,640 and 13,585 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 1,592 psi on a 15/64-in. choke. Total depth of the well is 13,700 ft. The closest producer is three miles southwest. Its second wildcat, #2-5 Stiles Ranch, was completed with an initial flowing potential of 1.99 million cu. ft. of gas, 36 bbl. of condensate and 43 bbl. of water daily through fracture-treated perforations in the Granite Wash between 12,557 and 14,011 ft. The well was drilled in Section 5, Block A-3, H&GN RR Survey, A-197, to a depth of 14,123 ft. 11 Dallas-based Heape Exploration Inc. is drilling a wildcat in the northwestern Grayson County (RRC 9) portion of the Marietta-Sherman Basin. The #1 Stuckey "1-A" is in the Jacob Gross Survey, A-460, about 10 miles of Sadler, Texas. It set to reach a total depth of 15,000 ft. The company also scheduled a directional lateral, named #1 Stuckey, to reach a total depth of 11,000 ft. in the Dornick Hills. The reentry, in the Thompson Empson Survey, A-1227, was originally completed as Dornick Hills producer in Gordonville East Field. The 10,949-ft. vertical well yielded 9,350 bbl. of oil and 12.5 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas. It produced until 1986. 12 Trio Consulting & Management LLC, Wichita Falls, Texas, staked a remote wildcat in western Dickens County (RRC 8A) about 10 miles northwest of Spur, Texas. The #3601 Garrett-Garcia, in Section 360, Block 1, H&GN Survey, A-741, is set to reach 6,000 ft. The nearest production is more than six miles southeast in Espuela Field. 13 Midland, Texas-based Griffin Petroleum is drilling a wildcat less than a mile north of Seminole, Texas, in central Gaines County (RRC 8A). The #1 Lisa, in Section 164, Block G, WT RR Co. Survey, A-2366, is projected to 6,000 ft. to San Andres. More than 350 San Andres wells in Seminole Field, just a mile west, have yielded 688,856 bbl. of crude, 701.15 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 5.68 million bbl. of water. 14 Blackwell Operating Co., Houston, staked a second western Hamilton County (RRC 7B) wildcat on the southeastern flank of the Bend Arch, about five miles northwest of Star, Texas, according to IHS Energy. The #2 Cynthia Kyle Unit, in the Robert F. Howell Survey, A-398, is projected to a total depth of 5,500 ft. The closest production is in Pottsville Field is 1.5 miles east-northeast. 15 Petro Hunt LLC, Dallas, will be drilling a horizontal wildcat in western Pecos County (RRC 8) in the emerging Barnett and Woodford shale play in the Delaware Basin. The location lies nearly 35 miles west of the town of Fort Stockton, Texas, and 1.25 miles southeast of the Reeves County line. The #1 H McCoy Remme Ranches State "27," in Section 27, Block 51, T10S, T&P Survey, A-8635, is projected to a total depth of 15,000 ft. The closest producer is 4.5 miles northeast in Hershey West Field. 16 Midland, Texas-based Dyad Petroleum staked a wildcat on the southern flank of the Midland Basin in southern Upton County (RRC 7C) 10 miles southwest of Rankin, Texas. The #1 Mesa, in Section 1, Block 1, MK&TE RR Co. Survey, A-306, is set to reach a total depth of 8,900 ft. The closest producer is more than a half-mile south in a band.
