1 Yates Petroleum Corp. completed a horizontal Bone Spring well in the New Mexico portion of the Delaware Basin portion in Eddy County. The #1H Cheroot BPF State Com was tested flowing 154 bbl. of oil, 314,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,170 bbl. of water per day from fracture-treated perforations at 12,049-12,499 ft. The flowing casing pressure was 150 psi on an unreported choke size. The well was drilled to 12,604 ft., 8,081 ft. true vertical, in Section 3-25s-27e. Yates Petroleum’s headquarters are in Artesia, N.M.

2 A horizontal Bone Spring discovery was announced by COG Operating LLC in the Lea County, N.M., portion of the Carlsbad Shelf. The #4H Corazon State Unit 4 was tested flowing 539 bbl. of oil, 980,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,894 bbl. of water per day from acid- and fracture-stimulated perforations at 11,725-15,450 ft. Tested on a 28/64-in. choke, the shut-in tubing pressure was 1,000 psi. The well was drilled to 15,613 ft. in irregular Section 4-21s-33e and bottomed almost a mile to the east at a true vertical depth of 11,427 ft. COG is based in Midland, Texas.

3 Chesapeake Operating Inc. of Oklahoma City completed a horizontal Wolfcamp wildcat in Gaines County (RRC Dist. 8A), Texas. The Midland Basin venture, #1H Doss 292-12, was tested flowing 44 bbl. of 42-degree-gravity oil, 71,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,598 bbl. of water daily from acid- and fracture-treated perforations at 10,145-14,920 ft. Tested on an 18/64-in. choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 130 psi. A 12,000-ft. vertical pilot hole was initially drilled by the Oklahoma City-based company in Lot 12, Section 292, Lynn County School Land Survey, A-967. The lateral reached a total depth of 14,955 ft., 9,992 ft. true vertical, and bottomed to the southeast. Objectives also included the shallow Glorieta (New Era and New Era South fields), the Canyon or Siluro-Devonian in Doss Field and the Devonian or Ellenburger in Tripp Field.

4 A Palo Pinto wildcat by Gunn Oil Co. was completed in Fisher County (RRC Dist. 7B), Texas. The #1 Mann was tested flowing 150 bbl. of 43-degreegravity crude and 231,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. Gauged on a 13/64-in. choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 385 psi. The venture produces from acidized perforations at 5,742-50 ft. and 5,841-44 ft. Drilled to 6,603 ft., the well is on an 80-acre lease on the Permian Basin’s Eastern Shelf. The #1 Mann was originally permitted by Wichita Falls-based Armor Petroleum Inc. Gunn Oil is based in Wichita Falls, Texas.

5 A discovery was reported near abandoned Everett Field in Haskell County (RRC Dist. 7B), Texas. Breckenridge, Texas-based Petex Inc.’s #1 Cornelius North Unit is in Section 65, Thomas Toby Survey, A-397. The venture flowed 63.7 bbl. of 41-degree-gravity oil, 30,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1 bbl. of water per day. Tested on an 11/64-in. choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 213 psi. Acid-treated perforations are at 3,820-34 ft. in Palo Pinto Lime. The well was drilled to 4,801 ft. on an 80-acre Bend Arch lease. To the north in the same section, Petex recently permitted #1 Lovvorn Unit to 5,000 ft.; objectives include Palo Pinto and Strawn.

6 A gas discovery by Jerry Hess Operating Co. in Callahan County (RRC Dist. 7B), Texas, has apparently re-established production in Poindexter Field. The Muenster, Texas-based operator’s #1 Windham 145 was tested flowing 987,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Ellenburger through an openhole interval at 4,020-61 ft. Gauged on a 12/64-in. choke, the flowing and shut-in tubing pressures were 1,135 psi and 1,372 psi, respectively. The well was drilled to 4,063 ft. on a 640-acre Bend Arch lease in Section 145, Block 2, GH&H RR Co Survey, A-209. The #1 Windham 145 offsets to the east a 2,322-ft. Poindexter Field well in the same section: #9 Windham F was completed in 1983 pumping 25 bbl. of 42-degree-gravity crude per day from fracture-treated perforations at 2,300-06 ft. in Cross Plains.

7 North of the Ouachita Thrust Belt, Whiting Oil & Gas Corp. has begun drilling a remote Kerr Basin wildcat in lightly drilled Bandera County (RRC Dist. 1), Texas. The #1 Tar Cedar is on a 640-acre lease in John Shanks Survey, A-1375, and the proposed total depth is 10,000 ft. Denver-based Whiting’s drill-site is northeast of a 10,093-ft. exploratory test drilled by Shell Oil Co. in 1971: #1 Signal-Tar-button bottomed in Ellenburger and oil and gas were recovered during production tests at 8,081-8,273 ft. and 8,636-8,877 ft. The well was later abandoned.

8 A Pam Field Mississippian producer was completed in the Bend Arch of Shackelford County (RRC Dist. 7B), Texas. Midland, Texas-based Midville Energy LLC’s #1 South Green 54 flowed 194 bbl. of 36-degreegravity crude and 135,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Chester perforations at 4,531-50 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was 480 psi on an unreported choke size. The well was drilled to 4,620 ft. on a 280-acre West Central Texas lease in Section 54, Block 11, T&P RR Co (F. Jordan) Survey, A-1047. Site log tops include Palo Pinto at 2,538 ft., Caddo at 4,012 ft. and Chester at 4,531 ft.

9 A Springer sand exploratory test by Chesapeake Operating Inc. in Washita County, Okla., flowed 6.65 million cu. ft. of gas and 60 bbl. of water per day. The #1-8 Dorothy Jean produced during preliminary tests at 21,512-30 ft. Tested on an unreported choke size, the shut-in tubing pressure was 8,571 psi and a calculated absolute open flow was 9.29 million cu. ft. of gas daily. Chesapeake did not release additional completion details on the 22,300-ft. well.

10 Houston-based Marathon Oil Co. reported preliminary test information for a deep wildcat drilled in a highly faulted region in the Anadarko Basin. The #1-16 McDonald is in Section 16-7n-14w of Kiowa County, Okla. The 21,500-ft. discovery flowed 7 million cu. ft. of gas with 30 bbl. of water per day during Primrose (Morrow) tests at 19,036-66 ft. The drillsite offsets to the northwest one of two wells that comprised Carnegie West Field: #1 Maude McDonald, in Section 16-7n-14w, which had an initial flowing potential of 4 million cu. ft. of gas per day from First Bromide. No other information is available on the Marathon prospect.

11 A development test by

SandRidge Exploration & Production flowed 401 bbl. of 40-degree-gravity oil with 597,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,967 bbl. of water per day. The Grant County, Okla., producer, #1-10H Lash, is in Section 10-26n-6w. Tested on a 128/64-in. choke, the well’s flowing tubing pressure was 150 psi. Production comes from an acidized and fracture-stimulated interval of Mississippi lime at 5,514-9,916 ft. The horizontal bore extends northward to a bottomhole in the same section and the measured and true vertical depths are 10,015 ft. and 5,136 ft., respectively. Sand - Ridge’s headquarters are in Oklahoma City.

12 A horizontal Woodford completion initially flowed 8 million cu. ft. of gas, 72 bbl. of condensate and 168 bbl. of water per day at a Marathon Oil Co. venture in Knox Field, the first Woodford producer in the field. The #4-29H Shi Randall is in Section 29-3n-5w of Grady County, Okla. Tested on a 20/64-in. choke, the well produced through perforations between 14,018 and 18,275 ft. after acid treatment and a 12-stage fracturing. The lateral was drilled north-northwestward to 18,385 ft., 13,293 ft. true vertical, at a bottomhole in the northeast part of the same section.
