1 In Dinero West Field, a Wilcox well has been completed by Lewisville, Texas-based Jamex Inc.. in the southern portion of Live Oak County (RRC Dist. 2), Texas. The #1 Wolters was tested flowing 2.92 million cu. ft. of gas and 99 bbl. of water per day through fracture-treated perforations at 14,012-50 ft. On a 9/64-in. choke, flowing and shut-in casing pressures were gauged at 8,108 psi and 10,515 psi, respectively. Absolute open flow was calculated at 7.19 million cu. ft. per day. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 14,360 ft. in the Isaac W. Smith Survey, A-431. After drilling to 14,360 ft., log tops for Queen City were reported at 8,500 ft. and Wilcox at 11,620 ft. Comparable production is about a mile to the southeast in Block 343, AB&M Survey, A-489. Since 1961, Dinero West Field has recovered a cumulative 13.24 billion cu. ft. of gas, 1.76 million bbl. of oil and condensate and 1.36 million bbl. of water. May 2009 output totaled 11.44 million cu. ft. of gas, 846 bbl. of crude and condensate and 282 bbl. of water.

2 XTO Energy Inc. of Fort Worth completed an East Texas wildcat in Shelby County (RRC Dist. 6), in the Benjamin Odell Survey, A-534. The #1 Raymond tested 697,000 cu. ft. of gas and 263 bbl. of water per day through fracture-treated commingled perforations at 11,844-11,959 ft. in the Bossier shale and at 12,258-97 ft. in the Haynesville shale. On a 48/64-in. choke, flowing and shut-in casing pressures were gauged at 375 psi and 4,400 psi, respectively. Absolute open flow was calculated at 417,000 cu. ft. per day. The test was drilled vertically to a total depth of 12,638 ft. and plugged back to 12,517 ft. Log tops include Travis Peak at 7,526 ft.; Bossier at 11,733 ft.; Haynesville at 12,225 ft.; and Cotton Valley at 12,395 ft.

3 Petrohawk Operating Co. completed a horizontal Haynes­ville shale well in Thorn Lake Field. Located in Red River Parish, La., #1 Sample et al 8 flow-tested 22.07 million cu. ft. of gas, 2 bbl. of 54-degree condensate and 300 bbl. of water per day through fracture-treated perforations at 12,299-16,534 ft. On a 24/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was gauged at 7,951 psi after drilling to 16,595 ft. in Section 17-14n-11w. Log tops include James Lime at 5,510 ft., Cotton Valley at 9,168 ft., Bossier at 10,198 ft. and Haynes­ville at 12,066 ft. Petrohawk completed #2-Alt Sample 4 in mid-2009 from Thorn Lake Field flowing 23.73 million cu. ft. of gas. Petrohawk’s headquarters are in Houston.

4 Petrohawk Operating Co. also completed a horizontal Haynesville shale well in the western portion of Louisiana’s Bossier Parish. In Section 6-16n-12w, #1 Knox Minerals 6 had an initial daily potential of 11.76 million cu. ft. of gas, 1 bbl. of 88-degree condensate and 688 bbl. of water through fracture-treated perforations at 11,307-15,593 ft. On a 24/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure for the Elm Grove Field well was 5,305 psi. Drilled to 15,665 ft. (10,286 true vertical), log tops include James Lime at 5,141 ft.; Cotton Valley at 8,171 ft.; Bossier at 9,731 ft.; and Haynesville shale, 11,016 ft.

5 Again in Elm Grove Field, Petrohawk Operating has completed a horizontal Haynes­ville shale well at the #4 Sherwin 10. The test flowed at an initial daily rate of 17.11 million cu. ft. of gas, 2 bbl. of 54-degree condensate and 529 bbl. of water through fracture-treated perforations at 11,220-15,401 ft. The flowing casing pressure was 6,447 psi on a 24/64-in. choke after drilling to 15,460 ft. The well is located in Section 10-16n-11w, Bossier Parish, La. Log tops include Sligo at 5,205 ft.; Hosston at 5,735 ft.; Cotton Valley at 8,117 ft.; and Turner Sand at 8,916 ft.

6 Another Petrohawk Operating well, #1 Ninock 25, tested 19.56 million cu. ft. of gas, 1 bbl. of condensate and 532 bbl. of water per day through fracture-stimulated perforations at 12,111-15,931 ft. Flowing casing pressure was 7,762 psi on a 24/64-in. choke. Located in Swan Lake Field in Section 35-15n-11w, Bossier Parish, La., the well was drilled to a total depth of 16,055 ft., 11,898 ft. true vertical. Petrohawk has several other horizontal Haynesville tests in the area.

7 Chesapeake Operating Inc. completed a horizontal Haynesville shale well in Pleasant Hill Field, Sabine Parish, La. The #1 Nabors Logan “34H” flowed at an initial daily rate of 4.12 million cu. ft. of gas and 26 bbl. of water through perforations at 12,755-17,301 ft. On a 7/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 8,800 psi. Located in Section 34-10n-12w, the new producer was drilled to 17,402 ft., 12,613 ft. true vertical. There is no comparable production in the area. Online since 1958, Pleasant Hill Field produces primarily from the Saratoga, Paluxy, Glen Rose and Buckrange. Chesapeake has several other active locations in the area.

8 A Tuscaloosa well has been completed by Fort Worth-based Threshold Development Co. in Franklin County, Miss. According to the Southeastern Oil Review, #1 Central Lumber Co. 6 produced 90,000 cu. ft. of gas, 180 bbl. of 39-gravity oil, and 25 bbl. of water per day. The well is in Section 6-6n-5e in St. Quentin Field and was drilled to 10,653 ft. Production came from Lower Tuscaloosa perforations at 10,596–10,653 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 1,080 psi on a 10/64-in. choke.

9 Hilcorp Energy Co., based in Houston, completed a directional Miocene well in West Bay Field. Located in Section 34-22s-30e of Plaquemines Parish, La., the initial daily potential for #174 State Lease 00192 PP was 2.53 million cu. ft. of gas, 337 bbl. of 36.4-degree condensate and no water through perforations at 10,236-10,632 ft. The producer was drilled to a total depth of 10,724 ft. and plugged back to 10,684 ft.

10 According to the Southeastern Oil Review, a Smackover producer by Moon-Hines-Tig­­rett Operating Co. of Jackson, Miss., flowed 3 million cu. ft. of gas and 254 bbl. of 36.9-gravity oil daily. The #2 Shadrack Davis Jr. is in Section 8-15n-1w in Tchula Lake Field in Holmes County, Miss., and was drilled to 10,044 ft. On a 12/64-in. choke, flowing tubing pressure was 2,239 psi. Smackover production is from perforations at 9,804-24 ft. Log tops reported are Eutaw at 4,838 ft.; Tuscaloosa at 5,570 ft.; Haynesville at 9,000 ft.; Buckner, 9,678 ft., and Smackover, at 9,708 ft.

11 Anadarko Petroleum Corp. announced a deepwater discovery, an exploratory well in the northern portion of Mississippi Canyon Block 984. Known as the Vito prospect, #1 (BP) OCS G22919 hit more than 250 net ft. of oil pay in subsalt Miocene sands. According to IHS Inc., the well was drilled to a total depth of about 32,000 ft. in a water depth of 4,038 ft. The original hole was abandoned in mid-April 2009 after about 45 days of drilling. In June 2009 Anadarko filed an exploration plan to drill another test on the Vito prospect in the far northern part of Block 984, with bottomhole location on Block 940 to the north. Houston-based Anadarko operates Vito with a 20% working interest; its partners are Shell Offshore Inc. with 55% and StatoilHydro USA E&P Inc. with 25%. Shell will operate the prospect after the exploration phase is complete.
