?1 San Antonio-based TXCO Resources Inc. completed a horizontal Georgetown well as part of Two M Field in Maverick County (RRC Dist. 1), south of Eagle Pass, Texas. TXCO’s #7231XH Burr C was tested through an acidized openhole interval of 2,398-3,744 ft. flowing 210 bbl. of 43-degree-gravity crude and 304,000 cu. ft. of gas daily. On a 15/64-in. choke, flowing tubing pressure was 400 psi. The producer is on a 19,636-acre lease in Section 23.5, Susanna R. Williams Survey, A-1143, and was drilled to a total depth of 3,744 ft., 2,411 ft. true vertical. Log tops include Austin Chalk at 755 ft., Eagle Ford shale at 1,515 ft., Buda at 2,008 ft. and Georgetown at 2,258 ft.

2 IHS Inc. reports 19.05 million cu. ft. of gas per day flowed from a horizontal Haynesville shale completion in Elm Grove Field in the southern portion of Bossier Parish, La., drilled by Petrohawk Energy Corp.’s KCS Resources unit. The #6 Woodley 8 also produced 1 bbl. of 48-degree-gravity condensate and 487 bbl. of water per day through fracture-stimulated perforations at 11,384-15,450 ft. Flowing casing pressure was 6,800 psi on a 24/64-in. choke. The producer was drilled to a total depth of 15,545 ft. (10,985 ft. true vertical) in Section 8-16n-11w. Petrohawk is based in Houston.

3 Houston-based Southern Star Energy Inc. has a Haynes­ville shale discovery in a new Sentell Field well in Section 16-19n-13w, Bossier Parish, La. Wireline logs and mud logs showed that the #1 Boyce Pate 16 encountered 177 ft. of net porous Haynesville shale across a gross interval of 395 ft. with a calculated average porosity of 10% and water saturation of 12%. Additionally, the well logged 66 ft. of net pay uphole in the Cotton Valley’s Davis sand interval.

4 Near Mansfield, La., a horizontal Haynesville shale well has been completed as part of Trenton Field in DeSoto Parish, La., by Houston-based EOG Resources Inc. The #1 B.R. Bedsole Enterprises 27 tested at an initial daily potential of 2.84 million cu. ft. of gas and 78 bbl. of water per day through fracture-treated perforations at 11,754-15,158 ft. On a 9/64-in. choke, shut-in casing pressure was 8,300 psi and absolute open flow was calculated at almost 11.6 million cu. ft. per day. The producer is in Section 27-12n-13w and was drilled to a total depth of 15,250 ft., 11,880 ft. true vertical.

5 Denver-based St. Mary Land & Exploration Co. has completed its first operated horizontal Haynesville shale well in Spider Field in DeSoto Parish, La. IHS Inc. reports the 24-hour production rate from #2 Johnson Trust?1 was 4.1 million cu. ft. of gas and 525 bbl. of water daily at a flowing casing pressure of 3,150 psi on an 18/64-in. choke. The well is in Section 1-11n-14w and was drilled to 15,264 ft. and completed with a 10-stage fracture treatment across a 3,400-ft. lateral. St. Mary owns a 90% working interest in the well.

6 Petrohawk Energy’s #1 Matthews 16 was tested flowing 15.16 million cu. ft. gas, 1 bbl. of 48-degree-gravity condensate and 750 bbl. of water daily through fracture-stimulated perforations at 12,749-15,663 ft. The horizontal Haynesville shale completion is in Red River-Bull Bayou Field in Louisiana’s Red River Parish.?Gauged on a 26/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 6,400 psi. The well was drilled in Section 16-13n-11w to a total depth of 16,910 ft., 12,545 ft. true vertical. Log tops include Sligo at 5,570 ft., Cotton Valley at 9,120 ft. and Haynesville shale at 12,400 ft.

7 Dual Haynesville shale producers were reported by Salt Lake City-based Questar Exploration & Production Co. from Woodardville Field in Bienville Parish, La. The #1 Wiggins 36H flow-tested 7.25 million cu. ft. of gas, 1 bbl. of 49.8-degree-gravity condensate and 1 bbl. of water per day through perforations at 12,695-16,182 ft. On a 18/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 5,200 psi. Drilled to 16,317 ft. in Section 36-15n-10w, the producer reached a true vertical depth of 12,443 ft. In nearby Section 32-15n-9w, the #1 Golson 32H was drilled to 16,863 ft. and was tested flowing 20.89 million cu. ft. of gas, 2 bbl. of 49.8-degree-gravity condensate and 442 bbl. of water per day through perforations at 12,590-16,577 ft. Flowing casing pressure was 6,550 psi on a 24/64-in. choke.

8 A Wilcox discovery has been completed by Jerry P. Ogden of Natchez, Miss., in Caldwell Parish., La. The #1 Louisiana Pacific RC, in Section 18-11n-2e, flowed 180,000 cu. ft. of gas per day through perforations at 2,547-52 ft. On a 7/64-in. choke, flowing pressure was 1,035 psi and the shut-in tubing pressure was 1,075 psi. This well was originally drilled in 2007 to a total depth of 2,990 ft. Log tops included Wilcox at 1,500 ft. and Cruse Sand at 2,409 ft.

9 In eastern St. John the Baptist Parish, La., BTA Oil Producers LLC reports a directional discovery. In the city limits of Edgard, La., Midland-based BTA’s #1 Goldmine Plantation Inc. tested 21 bbl. of 45-degree-gravity oil, 1.88 million cu. ft. of gas and 384 bbl. of water per day through perforations in the Discorbis gravelli (Miocene) at 11,698-11,702 ft. On an 18/64-in. choke, flowing and shut-in tubing pressures were gauged at 3,706 psi and 4,798 psi, respectively. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 12,730 ft. in Section 8-12s-19e.

10 The U.S. Minerals Management Service (MMS) will hold the Western Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 210 in New Orleans on August 19, 2009. The proposed sale of about 3,400 unleased blocks covers roughly 29 square miles in the Western Gulf of Mexico planning area, offshore Texas. The acreage lies between eight and 45 miles offshore in water depths ranging from 16 to 10,975 ft. MMS estimates the proposed lease sale could result in the production of 242- to 423 million bbl. of oil and 2- to 3 trillion cu. ft. of gas.

11 In deepwater Garden Banks Block 373, Mariner Energy Inc. of Houston plans to drill three wildcats from separate surface locations in the southwestern portion of the tract on its A-Trip prospect. Water depth is 1,963 ft.?Mariner has had success in the area at its recent Bushwood discovery in Block 462 with partners Energy Resource Technology GOM Inc., Apache Corp., Deep Gulf Energy II LLC and Deep Gulf Energy LP. Mariner owns a 60% working interest in Block 462 (the Geauxpher find) and gross proved and probable reserves on the block are estimated at 100 billion cu. ft. of gas equivalent.

12 According to IHS Inc., Devon Energy Production Co. LP of Oklahoma City has submitted plans to drill up to eight wildcats on three blocks in the Atwater Valley area. Devon’s planned tests on its Wombat prospect are about 12 miles from the nearest previous drilling. Three wildcats are slated for various surface locations on Block 406; three more tests are planned for separate sites on Block 407; and two final tests are scheduled for the central portion of Block 408. Water depth in the area is 5,650 ft. The nearest activity was on Atwater Valley Block 272, where a wildcat was drilled and abandoned in 2006.

13 Devon Energy also has filed exploration plans for Keathley Canyon. The company will drill seven wildcats at various locations in blocks 613 and 657. Both tracts are approximately 200 miles from the Louisiana coast. A rig is slated to begin the first well shortly, in some 6,700 ft. of water.
