1 San Antonio-based TXCO Resources Inc. drilled a horizontal Briscoe Ranch Field well in Webb County (RRC Dist. 1), near Asherton, Texas. According to IHS Inc., #1H Briscoe Catarina was tested flowing 312 bbl. of crude, 2.64 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas, and 600 bbl. of water per day through a fracture-treated openhole interval of 6,936-10,664 ft. in Eagle Ford shale on a 58/64-in. choke. True vertical depth of the horizontal leg is 7,388 ft. The #1H Briscoe Catarina is located on a 15,328-acre lease in Section 93, Block 8, I&GN RR Co. Survey, A-874. The original well was drilled vertically to 12,306 ft. in Pearsall by Anadarko Petroleum and abandoned in 2007.

2 In southwestern Leon County (RRC Dist. 5), Houston-based Gastar Exploration Ltd. announced a successful East Texas Bossier shale test in the southwestern portion of Leon County about seven miles southwest of Flynn, Texas. The #5 Gastar Wildman Trust was drilled to a total depth of 19,000 ft. and logged approximately 60 net ft. of pay in five Lower Bossier and one Middle Bossier zones. Gastar owns a 66.7% working interest before payout (54.5% net-revenue interest before payout). Hilltop Resort Field well is on a 334-acre lease in Jose Maria Viesca Survey, A-30. Gastar permitted another test about a half-mile southeast in the same survey and is scheduled to be drilled as part of Hilltop Resort Field to a total depth of 20,000 ft. in Bossier.

3 Square Mile Energy of Houston reported a Yegua discovery in Liberty County (RRC Dist. 3), Texas. The #1 Nolte Marsh was tested flowing 1.6 million cu. ft. of gas and 503 bbl. of 47.4-degree condensate per day through perforations at 13,130-97 ft. On a 9/64-in. choke, flowing and shut-in tubing pressures were gauged at 7,015 psi and 8,500 psi, respectively. Located in Section 15, T&NO RR Co. Survey, A-369, the new producer was drilled to a total depth of 13,330 ft. and plugged back to 13,272 ft.

4 Oklahoma City-based GMX Resources Inc. completed #2H Verhalen “A”, a Haynes­ville/Bossier horizontal well with a 4,198-ft. lateral and 14 fracture treatment stages. Initial production rate was 8.5 million cu. ft. of gas on a 14/64-in. choke with 4,164 psi flowing casing pressure. The completion is in Harrison County on a 660-acre lease south of Marshall, Texas, in Carthage North Field (RRC Dist. 6), Section 136, Cellums James Survey, A-145.

5 Chesapeake Operating Inc. of Oklahoma City has completed a horizontal Haynes­ville shale well in Caspiana Field in Caddo Parish, La. The Oklahoma City-based company reported an initial daily potential for #1 Clingman Acres 12-15-15H of 15.3 million cu. ft. of gas and 844 bbl. of water through a fracture-stimulated openhole interval of 11,675-16,149 ft. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 16,154 ft. (11,542 ft. true vertical) in Section 12-15n-15w. Flowing casing pressure was 6,630 psi on a 24/64-in. choke. Chesapeake has several other wells in progress in the area including #1 Clingman Acres 11H, #1 A.C. Clingman 2H, and #1 Clingman Acres 1H.

6 A horizontal Haynesville shale completion by Houston-based Petrohawk Energy Corp.’s KCS Resources Inc. unit in Elm Grove Field in Louisiana’s Bossier Parish flowed at a daily rate of 11.54 million cu. ft. of gas, 1 bbl. of 48-degree condensate and 1,006 bbl. of water. Producing through fracture-stimulated perforations at 11,750-16,350 ft., #3 R.E. Smith Jr. Trust is in Section 5-15n-11w. On a 26/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 4,500 psi. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 16,453 ft., or a true vertical depth of 11,410 ft. Log tops include Rodessa at 4,639 ft., Hosston at 6,054 ft., Lower Cotton Valley at 9,682 ft. and Haynes­ville shale at 11,097 ft.

7 Petrohawk Energy has also reported a horizontal Haynes­ville shale completion in Red River-Bull Bayou Field in Louisiana’s Red River Parish. The #1 Albritton Cattle Co. et al 9 was tested flowing 21.18 million cu. ft. of gas, 2 bbl. of 48-degree condensate and 790 bbl. of water daily through fracture-treated perforations at 12,819-16,799 ft. Gauged on a 26/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 7,469 psi. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 16,873 ft. with a true vertical depth of 12,521 ft. in Section 9-13n-11w and log tops include James Lime at 5,450 ft.; Cotton Valley at 9,611 ft.; Bossier at 10,161 ft.; and Haynesville shale at 12,469 ft.

8 Additionally, in a neighboring section in Red River-Bull Bayou Field, Red River Parish, La., Petrohawk’s #1 Albritton Cattle Co. et al 15 was tested flowing 23.1 million cu. ft. of gas, 1 bbl. of 48-degree condensate and 1,257 bbl. of water per day through fracture-treated perforations at 12,869-16,195 ft. in Haynesville shale. On a 30/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 6,650 psi. The new producer was drilled horizontally to a total depth of 16,270 ft., or a true vertical depth of 12,723 ft., in Section 15-13n-11w.

9 In Acadia Parish, La., a directional Nonion struma (Lower Frio) well has been completed as part of Lawson Field by Houston-based Walter Oil & Gas Corp. The #1 Lawrence Estate was tested flowing 2.55 million cu. ft. of gas and 806 bbl. of 55.4-degree condensate per day through perforations at 14,736-84 ft. The well was drilled to a total depth of 15,430 ft., 15,024 ft. true vertical, in Section 29-9s-1e. Reported log tops include Frio at 9,313 ft., Hayes at 11,318 ft. and Nonion struma at 14,518 ft. Flowing and shut-in tubing pressures were gauged at 6,425 psi and 8,307 psi, respectively, on an 11/64-in. choke.

10 Brigham Exploration Co. has brought an 8,000-ft. gas well onstream from Breton Sound Block 52. The #1 State Lease 19054 is currently producing 5.5 million cu. ft. of gas per day from Tex L (Miocene) at 7,645-88 ft. First production from the state waters well occurred in early May. Brigham operates the well and holds a 50% stake and Clayton Williams Energy Inc. also owns an interest. Brigham headquarters are in Austin.

11 According to IHS Inc., Vancouver, B.C.-based Petra Operating Inc. will be reentering a wildcat in Stone County, Miss., near Wiggins. The #1 Windy targets Tuscaloosa in Section 30-2s-12w. The well, originally named #4 L.N. Dantzler, was drilled and abandoned in 1943 at a total depth of 8,515 ft. in Tuscaloosa. To the northwest of the reentry in neighboring Forrest County, Lower Tuscaloosa produces in Maxie Field. That accumulation has made 320.3 billion cu. ft. of gas and 5.3 million bbl. of oil since 1952.

12 Mariner Energy Inc. of Houston has brought its Smoothie deep-shelf gas well online on South Timbalier Block 49. Mariner’s #2 OCS G24956 was drilled to 20,131 ft. and logged more than 200 ft. of net gas pay in multiple zones. Mariner operates and holds a 100% interest in the well. The #2 OCS G24956 has been renamed A-1 following installation of platform A. Gas production flows to South Timbalier Block 37 to an interconnection point on the Discovery gas pipeline.

13 Houston-based Apache Corp. reports that its #1 Ewing Banks 998 discovery flowed 4,254 bbl. of oil and 5.4 million cu. ft. of gas per day. Walter Oil & Gas, operator and 50% partner with Apache in the discovery, drilled the well in 1,000 ft. of water to a measured depth of 14,538 ft. According to IHS Inc., the well produces from Miocene at 14,352-14,400 ft.
