1 A horizontal Eagle Ford completion was reported by Denver-based St. Mary Land & Exploration Co. In Briscoe Ranch Field, in Webb County (RRC Dist. 4), Texas, #2H Briscoe G was tested flowing 6.04 million cu. ft. of gas, 460 bbl. of 53.8-degree condensate and 465 bbl. of water per day through fracture-treated perforations at 8,223-13,124 ft. On a 32/64-in. choke, flowing and shut-in casing pressures were 2,000 psi and 2,060 psi, respectively. The well was drilled to 13,232 ft. on a 7,200-acre lease in the Antonio Guerra Survey, A-59.

2 Houston-based El Paso Exploration & Production Co. completed a horizontal discovery in LaSalle County (RRC Dist. 1), Texas. The #1H Briscoe-Nunley Gas Unit flowed 7.31 million cu. ft. of gas and 520 bbl. of water daily through fracture-treated perforations at 12,557-16,555 ft. in Buda. Using a 24/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 3,167 psi and shut-in casing pressure was 5,500 psi. Absolute open flow was calculated at more than 11.31 million cu. ft. per day. The wildcat was drilled to a total depth of 16,673 ft. on a 160-acre lease in Section 42, BS&F Survey, A-1798.

3 Three new Eagle Ford producers in Hawkville Field were completed by Houston-based Petrohawk Operating Co. The horizontals were drilled in LaSalle County (RRC Dist 1), Texas. The #2H STS was tested flowing 6.19 million cu. ft. of gas, 197 bbl. of 60-degree condensate and 838 bbl. of water per day through perforations at 11,242-15,569 ft. On a 24/64-in. choke, flowing pressure was 3,123 psi and shut-in casing pressure 4,743 psi with absolute open flow calculated at 9.43 million cu. ft. per day. On a 12,073-acre lease in Section 83, H&GN RR Co Survey, A-241, the new producer was drilled to 15,669 ft. The #3H STS is in Section 84, H&GN RR Co Survey, A-1370. It had an initial flow rate of 6.14 million cu. ft. of gas, 321 bbl. of 57.7-degree condensate and 1,763 bbl. of water daily through fracture-treated perforations at 11,185-15,708 ft. Respective flowing and shut-in casing pressures were 2,781 psi and 4,715 psi on a 28/64-in. choke. Absolute open flow was calculated at just below 8.8 million cu. ft. per day after drilling to 15,812 ft. In the same section, #4H STS was drilled to 16,020 ft. and was completed through fracture-stimulated perforations at 11,398-15,921 ft. This well flowed 8.16 million cu. ft. of gas, 128 bbl. of 61.2-degree condensate and 1,014 bbl. of water daily. On a 24/64-in. choke, flowing and shut-in casing pressures were 3,917 psi and 4,815 psi, respectively, with absolute open flow calculated at more than 16.46 million cu. ft. per day.

4 In Hidalgo County (RRC Dist. 4), Texas, Houston-based San­chez Oil & Gas Corp. completed a Frio well as part of Mercedes Field. The initial daily potential for #1 Crain & Griffith is 1.99 million cu. ft. of gas, 22 bbl. of 69.5-degree condensate and 5 bbl. of water through perforations at 7,130-76 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was 655 psi and shut-in tubing pressure was 950 psi on a 48/64-in. choke. Absolute open flow was calculated at more than 6.62 million cu. ft. per day. The new producer was drilled to 8,150 ft., and plugged back to 7,364 ft.

5 In Shelby County (RRC Dist. 6), Texas, Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Operating Inc. completed a Haynesville wildcat. The #1H Harvey flowed at 3.16 million cu. ft. of gas and 693 bbl. of water per day through fracture-treated perforations in Haynesville shale at 11,541-15,685 ft. Gauged on a 28/64-in. choke, flowing and shut-in casing pressures were 1,785 psi and 2,698 psi, respectively, and the absolute open flow was about 5.5 million cu. ft. per day. The well was drilled to 15,685 ft., 11,331 ft. true vertical, on a 518-acre lease in Henry Ashabranner Survey, A-4. There is no comparable production in the vicinity.

6 Bopco LP completed a directional discovery in Liberty County (RRC Dist. 3). The #1 Van Deventer Gas Unit was tested flowing 2.65 million cu. ft. of gas and 521 bbl. of 54.4-degree condensate per day through Yegua perforations at 11,280-11,306 ft. On a 9/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 6,220 psi and shut-in casing pressure was 6,479 psi. Absolute open flow was about 15.73 million cu. ft. per day. The wildcat was drilled to a total depth of 12,500 ft. on a 352-acre lease in Robert Whitlock Survey, A-396. Bopco is headquartered in Fort Worth.

7 A horizontal Caspiana Field Haynesville well has been completed by Chesapeake Operating Inc. in Section 13-15n-12w, Caddo Parish, La. Using an 18/64 in.-choke, an initial flow rate of 10.03 million cu. ft. of gas and 32 bbl. of water per day was reported through perforations at 11,749-16,383 ft. According to IHS Inc., #1 Caspiana 13-15-12H was drilled to 16,460 ft., 11,554 ft. true vertical.

8 A horizontal Haynesville producer was reported to IHS Inc. by Dallas-based Exco Resources Inc. in Kingston Field, in the eastern portion of north Louisiana’s DeSoto Parish. The #1 Turner 36, in Section 36-14n-13w, tested flowing 19.03 million cu. ft. of gas per day through perforations at 12,642-16,216 ft. Using a 24/64-in. choke, flowing tubing pressure was 7,167 psi at 16,309 ft. Reported log tops include Glen Rose at 3,145 ft., James Lime at 5,642 ft., Hosston at 6,530 ft. and Bossier shale at 10,480 ft.

9 Houston-based Anadarko Petroleum Corp. has made a discovery in Keathley Canyon Block 875. The Lucius exploration well hit more than 200 ft. of net pay in subsalt Pliocene and Miocene sands. The #1 OCS G21444 was drilled to about 20,000 ft. in approximately 7,100 ft. of water. The company is drilling an updip sidetrack appraisal well on the same block to delineate the reservoir’s areal extent. Anadarko operates the Lucius well with a 50% working interest. Co-owners in the discovery include Plains Exploration & Production Co., 33.33% and Mariner Energy Inc., 16.67%.

10 On South Timbalier Block 145, Energy Resource Technology GOM Inc. reported approximately 20 ft. of pay at #B-1 (ST) OCS G26098. The well was drilled to a true vertical depth of 14,193 ft. and was being completed with production expected by the beginning of 2010. Drilled in 75 ft. of water in Block 145, the company operates and holds a 75% interest in the well. The well was originally drilled in 2006 to a total depth of 15,200 ft. and is now operated by the Houston-based company.

11 According to the Southeastern Oil Review, a J.R. Pounds Inc. well was completed on the south flank of Greens Creek Field in Marion County, Miss. The #1 Buckley 28-4 produced 1.74 million cu. ft. of gas, a trace of condensate, and 5 bbl. of water from Harper sand in Hosston. Tested on an open choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 155 psi. Drilled to 16,215 ft., in Section 28-5n-19w, the well was perforated between 16,083-16,215 ft. Log tops at the site were top of Chalk, 7,225 ft.; Lower Tuscaloosa, 9,735 ft.; James Lime, 15,320 ft.; Sligo Marker, 15,610 ft.; and Harper, 16,176 ft. J.R. Pounds’ headquarters are in Laurel, Miss.

12 Petrobras America Inc. has filed an exploration plan to drill up to three tests on Mississippi Canyon Block 697. Under lease OCS G28021, the tests are planned for separate surface locations in the northern portion of Block 697 in 7,150 ft. of water. Drilling on the Big Bend prospect was set for early 2010. Ownership of Block 697 is shared by Petrobras (50%), Red Willow Offshore LLC (42.5%) and Houston Energy LP (7.5%). Petrobras America is based in Houston and the parent company is Brazilian.
