1 A Petrohawk Operating Co. horizontal Eagle Ford shale well flowed 6.26 million cu. ft. of gas daily from Hawkville Field in central La Salle County (RRC Dist. 1), Texas. Located near Encinal, #1H Henderson-Cenizo 874 is in Section 737, HE&WT RR Co. Survey, A-874. The company fracture-treated perforations at 11,605-14,915 ft. On a 25/64-in. choke, flowing and shut-in tubing pressures were gauged at 4,640 psi and 6,750 psi, respectively. Absolute open flow was calculated at 12.01 million cu. ft. per day. The new producer was drilled to a total measured depth of 15,068 ft. (11,612 ft. true vertical depth). Log tops include Eagle Ford shale at 10,815 ft., Buda at 11,090 ft. and Edwards at 11,127 ft. The Houston-based company has another horizontal Eagle Ford shale test nearby, #1H Henderson-Cenizo 877, which is expected to reach a total measured depth of 17,000 ft.

2 Sandia, Texas-based San Isidro Development Co. and Antares Energy Ltd., a 75% working interest owner, have completed a gas discovery as part of the Yellow Rose project in McMullen County (RRC Dist. 1), Texas. The #2 Frances Dilworth is located in Section 31, James Houston Survey, A-878. Logs confirm 202 gross ft. (140 ft. net) pay in Edwards, a gas-bearing limestone reservoir, and 148 gross ft. (146 ft. net) pay in the gas-filled Eagle Ford shale. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 12,097 ft.

3 In Harrison County (RRC Dist. 6), Texas, Penn Virginia Corp. of Radnor, Pa., has completed a horizontal Lower Bossier (Haynesville shale) well. IHS Inc. reports that #2H Steele Gas Unit 1 was tested at an initial production rate of approximately 11.4 million cu. ft. of gas per day with a flowing casing pressure of about 4,600 psi. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 15,017 ft. on a 581.21-acre lease in the Henry Roberts Survey, A-918, in Carthage North Field. Penn Virginia owns a 100% working interest in the well.

4 EnCana Oil & Gas Inc. has completed a horizontal Haynes­ville shale well in Holly Field in DeSoto Parish, La. The #1 Burford Land Co LLC 8H was tested flowing 13.45 million cu. ft. of gas and 200 bbl. of water per day through fracture-stimulated perforations at 12,129-15,641 ft. Using a 20/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 7,433 psi. The Calgary-based company’s discovery is in Section 8-14n-14w, and was drilled to a total depth of 15,745 ft. (11,858 ft., true vertical). Log tops include Upper Glen Rose at 3,310 ft., James Lime at 5,748 ft., Bossier shale at 10,100 ft. and Haynesville shale at 11,799 ft.

5 Petrohawk Operating Co. has completed a horizontal Haynesville shale well in Caddo Parish, La. The #1 B&K Exploration 37 was tested flowing 17.9 million cu. ft. of gas and 345 bbl. of water daily through fracture-treated perforations at 11,623-15,210 ft. The well was drilled to a total depth of 15,277 ft. (11,376 ft. true vertical depth), and is in Section 37-17n-13w. The test bottomed 4,000 ft. to the north in the same section. Flowing casing pressure was measured at 6,249 psi on a 24/64-in. choke. Petrohawk is active at two nearby locations, #1 Dickson 37 and #1 Grayson 25H.

6 In Petrohawk Operating Co.’s Haynesville shale acreage in Red River Parish, La., IHS Inc. is reporting a discovery at #2-Alt Sample 4. The Thorn Lake Field well was tested flowing at a daily rate of 23.73 million cu. ft. of gas, 1 bbl. of 48-degree condensate and 382 bbl. of water through fracture-treated perforations at 12,349-16,450 ft. Flowing casing pressure was gauged at 7,530 psi on a 26/64-in. choke after drilling to 16,450 ft. Log tops include the Hosston at 6,415 ft., Cotton Valley at 9,165 ft., Bossier at 10,175 ft. and Haynesville shale at 12,010 ft. The discovery is in Section 4-14n-11w.

7 Houston-based Newfield Exploration Co. has made two deepwater discoveries in the Garden Banks area in the Gulf of Mexico. On Garden Banks Block 293, Newfield’s Pyrenees discovery, #2 OCS G32409, hit approximately 125 ft. of net hydrocarbon pay in three separate intervals. Drilled in 2,100 ft. of water, the well was temporarily abandoned at an unreported total depth. Field development plans include delineation drilling in the second half of 2009. Newfield operates the prospect with a 40% working interest, and additional partners are Stone Energy Corp. (15%), Ridgewood Energy Corp. (15%), Arena Exploration (15%) and Deep Gulf Energy (15%). On Garden Banks Block 605, Newfield’s Winter discovery encountered approximately 44 ft. of net hydrocarbon pay in two sands. The #1 OCS G31634 was drilled to an unreported total depth, has been temporarily abandoned and various development options are under consideration. Newfield operates the deepwater discovery and holds a 30% interest in the prospect. Other partners are Apache Corp. (25%), Deep Gulf Energy (25%) and Royal Offshore (20%).

8 In Pointe Coupee Parish, La., BP America Production has completed a directional Judge Digby Field well in Tuscaloosa. Initially producing 15.59 million cu. ft. of gas and 108 bbl. of water per day through perforations at 21,838-76 ft., #14 W.C. Parlange Jr. et al had flowing and shut-in tubing pressures of 11,427 psi and 12,500 psi, respectively. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 22,580 ft. in irregular Section 49-5s-9e.

9 A directional Tuscaloosa well has been completed in Cranfield Field by Plano-based Denbury Onshore LLC. Located in the eastern portion of Mississippi’s Adams County, #2 Cranfield Field Unit 27-5 was tested flowing 178 bbl. of 40-degree-gravity crude, 113,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,136 bbl. of water per day through perforations at 10,374-10,404 ft. Using a 20/64-in. choke, flowing tubing pressure was 750 psi and the new producer was drilled to a total depth of 10,551 ft. in irregular Section 27-7n-1w. Denbury has spudded #1 Cranfield “27-1” about a half-mile northeast of the #2 in the same survey, but no further details are available. Denbury is active at several other tests in the area.

10 KFG Resources has made an oil discovery at #1 Spring Hill in Fayette Field, Jefferson County, Miss. The well was drilled to 5,500 ft. and encountered two Wilcox oil sands—Stewart A at 3,870-80 ft. and the 4600 sand at 3,941-49 ft. Production casing was set to 4,100 ft. and the well will be completed in the Stewart A sand. KFG has spudded a third shallow Wilcox test, #1-Spring Meadow 1. The company’s headquarters are in Natchez, Miss.

11 According to IHS Inc., a directional Washita-Fredericksburg well has been completed by Laurel, Miss.-based Venture Oil & Gas Inc. In Section 35-7n-9w in Thompsons Creek South Field, Wayne County, Miss., #2 USA 35-9 was tested pumping 120 bbl. of 21-degree-gravity crude and 1 bbl. of water per day through perforations at 9,110-32 ft. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 9,911 ft. and plugged back to 9,690 ft. Log tops reported include the Selma Chalk at 5,054 ft., Eutaw at 6,398 ft., Lower Tuscaloosa at 7,857 ft. and Washita-Fredericksburg at 8,243 ft.

12 Up to five subsea tests are planned for various surface locations in Mississippi Canyon Block 392 by Shell Gulf of Mexico. A sixth subsea test is slated for the northeastern corner of Block 391. The company expects to begin drilling on Block 392 in August 2009. Water depth in the area is 7,224 ft. Shell bought the drilling rights to both blocks from Pioneer Natural Resources USA Inc., which originally acquired them at OCS Sale 190 held in 2004.
