4 Houston-based Cobalt International Energy Inc. announced more details about its North Platte discovery. The #1 (BP) OCS G30876 hit more than 550 net ft. of oil pay in multiple high-quality Inboard Lower Tertiary reservoirs. The wildcat was drilled to an estimated total depth of 34,500 ft. in Garden Banks Block 959. Water depth in the area is 4,300 ft. Cobalt has drilled a second bypass at #1 (BP2) OCS G30876 to an estimated total depth of 33,500 ft. The company holds the drilling rights to numerous blocks within a 10-mile radius of the North Platte discovery. An exploration plan shows that Cobalt could drill up to six more deep tests at North Platte, which encompasses Garden Banks blocks 915 (OCS G30869), 958 (OCS G32460) and 959. Cobalt operates North Platte with 60% working interest along with Total (40%).

5 According to IHS Inc., Chevron Corp. is drilling another appraisal test, #1 OCS G25814, at its Buckskin find in Keathley Canyon Block 829. Water depth in the area is 6,435 ft. The Buckskin discovery, #1 (BP) OCS G25823, is about five southwest on Block 872. The 2009 Lower Tertiary find encountered more than 300 ft. of net pay and was drilled to 29,404 ft. Chevron has also filed an exploration plan that calls for drilling up to six tests on adjacent Keathley Canyon Block 692 (OCS G25801) to the north. Chevron aims to co-develop the Buckskin and Moccasin finds and is in the initial stages of evaluating a hub development similar to its Jack/St. Malo development in the Walker Ridge area. Chevron is based in San Ramon, Calif.

6 Chevron Corp. reported an oil discovery at a Lower Tertiary prospect southeast of the Shenandoah find on Walker Ridge Block 98. The #1 OCS G21841 encountered more than 400 ft. of net oil pay at the Coronado prospect. The well was drilled to 31,866 ft. in 6,130 ft. of water. Well results are still being evaluated and the Houston-based company plans additional work to determine the extent of the Lower Tertiary resource in the same mini-basin as the Shenandoah discovery. Chevron operates Coronado with a 40% working interest with ConocoPhillips (35%), Ana - darko Petroleum (15%) and Venari Offshore (10%).

7 According to IHS Inc., Houston-based Cathexis Oil & Gas LLC has apparently re-established Miocene production in Atchafalaya Bay with the completion of a directional well in St. Mary Parish, La. Tested on a 10/64-in. choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 1,092 psi and the shut-in tubing pressure was 1,200 psi. The Houston-based company's new well was drilled to 12,025 ft. and the proposed true vertical depth was 12,000 ft.

8 In Adams County, Miss., MS Onshore LLC plans to drill the first horizontal test in Overton Field. The #1 Pintard 17H will be drilled in irregular Section 17-5n-2w, with a proposed bottomhole one mile beneath Section 18. The venture is targeting oil pay in Austin Chalk. The planned depth is 15,192 ft., 11,500 ft. true vertical. If successful, MS Onshore's well would be the sixth horizontal producer in Adams County and the deepest well in Overton Field. Oil production in Overton Field is generally west of the Jackson, Miss.-based company's proposed wildcat.

9 Yuma Exploration & Production Co. completed a Wilcox well in Livingston North Field in Livingston Parish, La. The #1 Starns 38 produced 300 bbl. of 40.5-degree-gravity crude, 50,000 cu. ft. of gas and 700 bbl. of water through perforations at 9,520-30 ft. Tested on an open choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 250 psi. The directional well was drilled to 10,119 ft. in Section 38-6s-5e. The nearest oil well in Livingston North Field is #1 Ponder Mineral Co. Yuma's headquarters are in Houston.

10 Petrobras has received a permit to bypass a development test at Chinook Field. The #3 (BP) OCS G16987 is on Walker Ridge Block 425 and will be bypassed at 15,000 ft. The bypass will be drilled from a site in the far southern portion of the block in 8,840 ft. of water. Offsetting the location to the south is an exploratory test drilled by the Rio de Janeiro-based company on Walker Ridge Block 469. The #2 (BP) CH2 OCS G16997 was drilled to 26,378 ft. in Lower Tertiary (Wilcox). It was initially tested flowing 8,731 bbl. of 25.7-degree-gravity crude, 1.2 million cu. ft. of gas and 119 bbl. of water per day through perforations at 25,150-25,970 ft. Chinook is part of Petrobras' larger Cascade-Chinook Lower Tertiary development.

Most land in the US is divided into townships—rectangular tracts six miles square. The township, in turn, is divided into 36 numbered sections, each a one-mile square. The lines running north-south and dividing east from west are called range lines. The lines running east-west and dividing north from south are township lines.

A well in Section 15-Township 4 north-Range 3 east is abbreviated: 15-4n-3e.
