The flowing tubing pressure was 2,400 psi when tested on a 12/64-in. choke. Horizontally drilled to 14,648 ft. (10,780 ft. true vertical), the well is in Section 14, Miguel Muldon Survey, A-76, and the lateral bottomed to the north. In the same section, #2H Flatonia East Unit had an initial daily potential of 1,242 bbl. of 37.53-degree-gravity crude, 480,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,102 bbl. of water from fracture-treated perforations at 11,308-15,810 ft. Tested on a 16/64-in. choke, the flowing casing pressure was 2,850 psi. The north-trending leg was drilled to 15,889 ft., 10,677 ft. true vertical. The two wells have apparently opened a new field in Fayette County.

6 Encana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc., Calgary, completed a Cotton Valley gas well in Leon County (RRC Dist. 5), Texas. The #1 Gresham Trust Unit A flowed 9.58 million cu. ft. of gas and 36 bbl. of water per day through fracture-treated Cotton Valley perforations at 16,026-19,060 ft. The directional well was drilled to 19,250 ft. in A.W. Cooke Survey, A-159. Gauged on a 28/64-in. choke, the flowing casing pressure was 2,189 psi. 8 McMoRan Oil & Gas LLC hit additional hydrocarbon pay at an exploratory test on its ultra-deep Lafitte prospect on Eugene Island Block 223. The New Orleans-based company reported that wireline logs on #1 (BP) OCS G21640 indicated 56 net ft. of hydrocarbon-bearing sand in the Cris-R section of the Lower Miocene with good porosity. A flow test will be performed to confirm the ultimate hydrocarbon flow rates from the zone. According to IHS Inc., the exploratory test was drilled to a true vertical depth of 29,756 ft. McMoRan plans to apply for a permit to deepen the Lafitte well to a proposed total depth of 32,000 ft. to evaluate deeper Miocene and Oligocene objectives. The Cris-R sand interval, combined with 115 ft. of potential net pay, brings the total possible productive net sands to 171 ft. in the Lafitte well. McMoRan holds a 72% stake in the Lafitte prospect. Other interest owners in Lafitte include Energy XXI (18%) and Moncrief Offshore LLC (10%).

9 Statoil made an ultra-deepwater oil discovery on the company’s Logan prospect in the Walker Ridge area. The #1 OCS G26419 on Walker Ridge Block 969 hit hydrocarbons, and evaluations are ongoing to assess volumes and commerciality. Additional details have not been released. The Logan prospect was drilled to 27,400 ft. in 7,800 ft. of water. Ecopetrol holds a 20% interest in the Logan discovery. A wildcat is also planned for Stavanger-based Statoil’s Keathley Canyon Bloko prospect. In late 2011, Statoil won a permit to drill #1 OCS G33343 on Keathley Canyon Block 698; the Bloko prospect is 25 miles northwest of the Logan venture. This part of the Keathley Canyon/Walker Ridge area has been among the most active since the drilling moratorium was lifted.

10 Manti Exploration Co. of Corpus Christi, Texas, reported two Leeville Field producers in Lafourche Parish, La. The #339 LL&E is in Section 22-21s-22e and was drilled to 10,345 ft. Manti reported 128 ft. of net productive sands in the 95 Sand interval (95 A, B, E, F, and G) and 42 ft. of net productive sand from the 8000 Series sands (8100, 8300, 9900, and Stray). The venture flowed 2.95 million cu. ft. of gas and 27 bbl. of oil per day after perforating the well at 10,174-82 ft. Gauged on a 14/64-in. choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 2,483 psi. The #1 St LL&E 177 is in Section 28-21s-22e and was drilled to 10,540 ft. This well flowed 1.5 million cu. ft. of gas and 30 bbl. of oil (no water) per day from 95A&B Sand, 95E Sand, 95F Sand, and 95G Sand. The flowing pressure was 3,600 psi when tested on a 9/64-in. choke.

11 Two Norphlet wells have been permitted in the Mississippi portion of the Cahaba Basin along the Appalachian Thrust Belt. Land & Natural Resources Development Inc.’s #1 OGI-Global-Cinderella 13-10 will be drilled to 12,500 ft. in Section 13-6n-10e of non-producing Newton County. The Tuscaloosa, Ala.-based operator staked a second Newton County wildcat to the east in Section 18-6n-11e: #1 OGI-Global-Cinderella 18-12 is expected to reach 10,000 ft. in Norphlet. No activity at the site has been reported to date. Although there has been no Norphlet recovery in the vicinity, Smackover production is in neighboring Scott County’s Otho Field, about 13 miles southwest of the proposed wildcats.

Most land in the U.S. is divided into townships—rectangular tracts six miles square. The township, in turn, is divided into 36 numbered sections, each a one-mile square. The lines running north-south and dividing east from west are called range lines. The lines running east-west and dividing north from south are township lines.

A well in Section 15-Township 4 north-Range 3 east is abbreviated: 15-4n-3e.
