?1 EnCana Corp., Calgary, flow-tested #5 Laxson at 33.8 million cu. ft. of gas and 162 bbl. of water per day. The new producer is in East Texas’ Robertson County (RRC Dist. 5). The Bossier completion is part of John Amoruso Field. Fracture-treated perforations were between 15,416 and 15,691 ft. Flowing and shut-in tubing pressures were gauged at 3,200 psi and 8,515 psi, respectively, on a 32/64-in. choke. Absolute open flow was calculated at more than 39.49 million cu. ft. per day for the 15,950-ft. well. Located on a 704-acre lease in the Pedro Jose Pereire Survey, A-32, log tops for the well were reported by EnCana as Upper Austin Chalk at 5,778 ft., Pettet at 10,224 ft. and Travis Peak at 14,107 ft.

2 In southeast Texas, San Antonio-based Republic Resources LLC completed #1 Marrs-McLean Bowman. Located in Big Hill Field near Hamshire in Survey 373, Jefferson County (RRC Dist. 3), the well was drilled to total depth of 7,800 ft. Republic reports gas flow at 1.35 million cu. ft. daily from perforations between 7,080–83 ft. in Frio. Gauged on an 8/64-in. choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 2,990 psi. Additional wells are planned by the company but no details are available.

3 LLOG Exploration of Covington, La., released details about an offshore Texas gas discovery on High Island Block 138. The #1(ST)OCS G31040 flow-tested an unreported amount of gas from several Lower Miocene Marginulina ascensionensis perforations at 15,370-15,599 ft. The well was drilled and abandoned in 2008 and a production platform has been placed over the surface location. LLOG intends to drill and bring onstream another two wells on the block and flow gas through a three-mile, 10-in. pipeline to existing platform “A” on adjacent Block 139.

4 A Petrochem Operating Co. well, #1-Alt Hart 11, was tested flowing 1.98 million cu. ft. of gas and 780 bbl. of water per day through fracture-treated perforations between 9,302 and 9,406 ft. The Lower Cotton Valley well is in Swan Lake Field in the southern portion of Bossier Parish, La. On a 20/64-in. choke, the flowing casing pressure was 1,900 psi. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 9,724 ft. in Section 11-15n-11w. Petro­chem, based in Shreveport, has another Cotton Valley test, #3 Johnson, in the area. According to IHS Inc., that well had been production- and flow-tested through fracture-treated perforations below 9,200 ft. at 2.24 million cu. ft. of gas and 910 bbl. of load water per day.

5 A well drilled by the KCS Resources unit of Petrohawk Energy Corp., Houston, in the Haynesville shale, flow-tested 14.68 million cu. ft. of gas, one bbl. of 48-degree condensate, and 860 bbl. of water per day through perforations between 11,599 and 15,380 ft.?The #4 Mack Hogan is in Elm Grove Field in southern Bossier Parish, La. Flowing casing pressure was 4,950 psi on a 26/64-in. choke. Drilled in Section 3-16n-11w, the new producer hit a total measured depth of 15,480 ft., with a true vertical depth of 11,086 ft. Log tops reported to IHS Inc. include Sligo at 5,188 ft.; Hosston at 5,641 ft.; Cotton Valley at 8,090 ft.; Lower Cotton Valley at 9,588 ft.; and Haynesville shale at 10,990 ft.

6 In northwestern Red River Parish, La., Petrohawk Energy also finaled a horizontal Haynesville shale well in part of Thorn Lake Field. The initial daily potential for the #1 Sample 4932 was 5.13 million cu. ft. of gas, two bbl. of 48-degree condensate and 75 bbl. of water through fracture-treated perforations between 12,339 and 16,270 ft. Using a 12/64-in. choke, the flowing casing pressure was 6,375 psi. The new producer was drilled to a total depth of 16,415 ft. in Section 4-14n-11w.

7 In Bienville Parish, La., a Cotton Valley/Vaughn Sand well in Liberty Field initially flowed 4.4 million cu. ft. of gas, one bbl. of 56-degree condensate and five bbl. of water. The Houston-based Plantation Operating LLC well, #1 L.A. Minerals et al 8, was perforated at 13,319-25 ft. The producer was drilled to a total depth of 14,350 ft. in Section 8-15n-5w. On a 24/64-in. choke, flowing tubing pressure was 1,400 psi. Log tops include James Lime at 6,750 ft.; Pine Island Shale, 7,200 ft.; Sligo, 7,375 ft.; Hosston, 8,050 ft.; Bodcaw, 12,750 ft.; Vaughn, 13,050 ft.; and Davis Sand, 13,450 ft.

8 Royal Production Co. has completed a directional Bathysiphon sand well in Chalkley North Field in Jefferson Davis Parish, La. The #1 D. Richard et al “B” was tested flowing 1.35 million cu. ft. of gas, 96 bbl. of 53-degree condensate and 52 bbl. of water daily through perforations at 11,658-11,924 ft. Using an 8/64-in. choke, the flowing pressure was 4,816 psi and shut-in tubing pressure was 4,981 psi. The producer was drilled to a total measured depth of 13,197 ft. (12,815 ft. true vertical) in Section 33-11s-6w. Royal’s headquarters are in Corpus Christi.

9 A previously undrilled South Timbalier block is the site of a Hunt Oil wildcat. The #1 OCS G26099 is being drilled in the southwestern corner of Block 155 in 187 ft. of water. The only producer in the region is about one mile south-southeast in South Timbalier Block 182. A well drilled in 1998 flowed about 10 million cu. ft. of gas and 720 bbl. of condensate per day from Pliocene at 10,430-53 ft. Hunt’s headquarters are in Dallas.

10 In deepwater Green Canyon Block 606, Anadarko Petroleum Corp. announced a new find at the K2 complex. The #1 OCS G21807 hit approximately 110 ft. of net hydrocarbon pay in three Middle and Lower Miocene sands. The Block 606 test was drilled to an unreported total depth by a drillship from a site in the northwestern portion of the block in 4,170 ft. of water. The drilling rights to Block 606 were acquired by The Woodlands, Texas-based Anadarko for more than $9 million at OCS Sale 175, held in 2000.

11 Plano, Texas-based Denbury Resources Inc. completed a directional Lower Tuscaloosa well in Section 16-4n-6e in Smithdale Field, Amite County, Miss. The #4 Smithdale Field Unit 16-10 was tested flowing 194 bbl. of 41.8-degree crude and 348 bbl. of water per day through perforations at 11,117-38 ft. Log tops include Wilcox at 4,510 ft.; Midway at 7,750 ft.; Marine at 10,660 ft.; and Lower Tuscaloosa at 11,060 ft.

12 In a remote eastern part of Lee County, Miss., Horton Enterprises has permitted a shallow wildcat. Located in Section 15-9s-7e, #1 Horton-Aycock is projected to a total depth of 1,800 ft. The closest production is in one-well Horton Field, about one mile to the west-southwest. Horton completed #1 Horton-Cook, in Section 16-9s-7e, in January 2008 and the well flowed 96,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from 1,140-44 ft. in Lewis Sand. Including December 2008 production of 1.23 million cu. ft. of gas, Mantachie, Miss.-based Horton has made a total of 23.99 million cu. ft. from that well.

13 A Cotton Valley Stampede Field well has been completed by Jackson, Miss.-based Tellus Operating Group. The #1 Tellus-Stampede 5-8 is in southwestern Smith County, Miss., and was directionally drilled to a total depth of 15,929 ft. in Section 5-1n-7e. The initial daily flow rate was 164 bbl. of 47-degree crude, 98,000 cu. ft. of gas and 93 bbl. of water through fracture-treated perforations at 15,182-15,202 ft. On a 24/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 140 psi. Log tops at the well include Selma Chalk at 5,365 ft.; Eutaw at 6,690 ft.; Lower Tuscaloosa at 8,158 ft.; and Cotton Valley at 14,023 ft.
