12 Oil was recovered on a drillstem test of Tyonek at a southern Cook Inlet prospect by Sydney-based Buccaneer Energy Ltd. The well is the first test in a proposed two-well offshore exploration project in the Alaskan inlet. The #1 Cosmopolitan-State produced from two oil zones within Tyonek from perforations between 5,824 ft. and 6,092 ft. Due to limited storage capacity on the rig, a more extensive flow test on the well is not yet possible. The next test will target a lower gas zone in Tyonek, according to Buccaneer. The #1 Cosmopolitan-State was drilled to a true vertical depth of 7,599 ft. The well was drilled on the crest of a large anticline and hit oil-bearing sands that were approximately 400 ft. stratigraphically higher than any other wells drilled on the structure to date.

Most land in the US is divided into townships—rectangular tracts six miles square. The township, in turn, is divided into 36 numbered sections, each a one-mile square. The lines running north-south and dividing east from west are called range lines. The lines running east-west and dividing north from south are township lines.

A well in Section 15-Township 4 north-Range 3 east is abbreviated: 15-4n-3e.
