1. In Reeves County (RRC Dist. 8), Texas, J. Cleo Thompson of Dallas completed a Hoban Field well. The #1 Chapman flowed 114 bbl. of 42-degree crude, 238,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,150 bbl. of water per day. Production comes from commingled, acid- and fracture-treated perforations at 8,096-10,850 ft. in the Bone Spring and Wolfcamp. Using a 22/64-in. choke, the flowing casing pressure was 720 psi. Log tops reported at the site include Bone Spring at 8,042 ft.; Bone Spring 1, 9,052 ft.; Bone Spring 2, 9,388 ft.; and Wolfcamp at 10,367 ft. The 12,500-ft. vertical well was drilled on a 639.93-acre lease in Section 32, Block 51, T7S, T&P RR Co Survey, A-261. The operator recently permitted two other Hoban vertical tests in the area, both projected to 12,750 ft. in Wolfcamp.

2. Three 9,500-ft. horizontal Eagle Ford shale exploratory tests have been permitted by St. Mary Land & Exploration Co.. in Webb County (RRC Dist. 4), Texas. The new locations are #1H San Ambrosia C, Section 64, Block 7, I&GN RR Co Survey, A-122; #1H San Ambrosia D, Section 78, Block 7, I&GN RR Co Survey, A-136; and #2H San Ambrosia D in Section 97, Block 7, I&GN RR Co Survey, A-147. Nearby tests are #1H San Ambrosia B, which is expected to reach a total depth of 13,500 ft., and #2H Briscoe B, expected to go to 8,000 ft. In late 2009, St. Mary completed #1H Briscoe B, tested flowing 6.66 million cu. ft. of gas, 437 bbl. of 55.9-degree condensate and 1,874 bbl. of water daily through fracture-treated Eagle Ford perforations at 7,842-12,861 ft. St. Mary’s headquarters are in Denver.

3. XTO Energy Inc. of Fort Worth has permitted three horizontal tests in McMullen County (RRC Dist. 1), Texas. It plans to drill #1H Layton A and #2H Layton A to 18,000 ft. and #3H Layton A to 16,500 ft. The new wells are on an 802-acre lease in the James Garner Survey, A-5. According to IHS Inc., the tests target Eagle Ford shale. The closest Eagle Ford shale recovery is about 20 miles southwest in Hawkville Field: XTO recently completed #1H Donnell 1077 flowing 6.82 million cu. ft. of gas, 256 bbl. of 53.9-degree condensate and 826 bbl. of water through fracture-treated perforations at 12,085-16,251 ft. Other nearby production comes from Olmos, about a half-mile southwest.

4. According to IHS Inc., Comstock Oil & Gas has completed a horizontal Haynesville shale well in Logansport Field, DeSoto Parish, La. The Frisco, Texas-based company’s #1 Caraway Estate 29HZ had an initial daily potential of 16.15 million cu. ft. of gas and 383 bbl. of water through perforations at 12,240-16,641 ft. Flowing casing pressure was 5,402 psi with a 24/64-in. choke. Drilled to 16,785 ft., 11,088 ft. true vertical, in Section 20-12n-16w, the well bottomed about a mile to the south-southwest in irregular Section 29. The reported log tops are Sligo at 5,797 ft., Cotton Valley at 8,729 ft. and Haynesville at 10,087 ft.

5. Petrohawk Operating Co. of Houston completed a horizontal Haynesville shale well as part of Elm Grove Field in Bossier Parish, La. The #1 Jestma LLC 22H flow-tested 20.78 million cu. ft. of gas and 388 bbl. of water through fracture-treated perforations at 11,595-16,161 ft. Gauged on a 24/64-in. choke, the flowing casing pressure was 7,441 psi. The Petrohawk producer was drilled to 16,219 ft., 11,374 ft. true vertical, in Section 15-16n-11w. Site log tops include James Lime at 4,820 ft.; Hosston at 5,745 ft.; Bossier at 9,740 ft.; and Haynesville at 11,127 ft.

6. In Kingston Field in DeSoto Parish, La., Exco Production Co. LP of Dallas finaled a horizontal Haynesville shale well having an initial daily potential of 22.3 million cu. ft. of gas and 312 bbl. of water. The #5 Scott 17 flowed through fracture-stimulated perforations at 12,186-16,268 ft. Using a 22/64-in. choke, the flowing casing pressure was 7,202 psi. In Section 17-14n-13w, the well was drilled to 16,362 ft., 11,840 ft. true vertical. Log tops include Pettet at 5,935 ft., Hosston at 6,362 ft. and Bossier at 10,170 ft.

7. In Red River-Bull Canyon Field, Petrohawk Operating Co. completed #1 Matthews et al flowing 19.24 million cu. ft. of gas and 984 bbl. of water per day through fracture-treated perforations at 12,923-17,542 ft. The horizontal Haynesville completion was drilled to 17,630 ft., or a true vertical depth of 12,510 ft., in Section 16-13n-11w of Red River Parish, La. Using a 24/64-in. choke, flowing casing pressure was 8,231 psi. Log tops include James Lime at 5,476 ft.; Hosston, 6,536 ft.;, Bossier, 10,203 ft.; and Haynesville at 12,528 ft. Petrohawk is under way at #2 Matthews 16, an east-southeast offset to the new producer in the same section.

8. Energy Partners Ltd. of New Orleans has brought a gas well onstream that was completed in late 2009 on East Cameron Block 111. The #1 (ST) OCS G25944 was drilled to 12,809 ft. and hit pay in two sands. The deeper sand produces at a gross rate of 14 million cu. ft. of gas and 620 bbl. of condensate per day. Energy Partners and Phoenix Exploration Co. LP each own 50% working interest rights. Energy Partners may drill a test well to additional targets in the fault block, including a deeper Cib Carst sand at 13,500 ft. The water depth in the area is 66 ft.

9. Additional oil pay—almost 600 net ft.—has been reported by Anadarko Petroleum Corp. from a Lucius sidetrack appraisal well. The #1 (ST) G21444, on Keathley Canyon Block 875, was drilled to 20,000 ft. as an updip sidetrack about 3,200 ft. south of the discovery well. The sidetrack found gas-condensate pay in thick subsalt Pliocene and Miocene sands. Woodlands, Texas-based Anadarko operates the Lucius well with a 50% working interest. Partners include Plains Exploration & Production Co. with a 33.33% working interest and Mariner Energy Inc. with 16.67% working interest.

10. A Helis Oil & Gas Co. completion flowed 322 bbl. of 25-degree crude and 69,000 cu. ft. of casinghead gas per day. The #52 State Lease 00195 QQ is in Black Bay Field in Plaquemines Parish, La. Perforations were made at 7,396-7,406 ft. in Miocene. The flowing and shut-in tubing pressures were gauged at 475 psi and 650 psi, respectively, and the shut-in casing pressure was 900 psi. The new producer was drilled to 8,505 ft. and plugged back to 8,218 ft. Helis is based in New Orleans.

11. In Jones County, Miss., Roundtree & Associates Inc. completed a directional Hosston well as part of Parker Creek Field. The #2 Box Butler 5-5 was drilled to 14,570 ft. in Section 5-6n-13w. It was tested flowing 417 bbl. of 40-degree crude per day through perforations at 13,712-13,996 ft. The new producer is a western offset in the same section as the company’s #1 Box-Butler 5-5, which was completed in 1998 and flowed 865 bbl. of 40-degree oil and 120,000 cu. ft. of casinghead gas per day from Hosston perforations at 13,186-13,336 ft. Roundtree & Associates Inc.’s headquarters are in Jackson, Miss.
