The well was directionally drilled to a measured total depth of 4,470 ft., 4,314 ft. true vertical. Formation tops at the site include Brown Niagaran at 3,917 ft. (3,812 ft. true vertical); Gray Niagaran at 4,266 ft. (4,126 ft. true vertical); and Clinton at 4,370 ft. (4,221 ft. true vertical).

Gaylord, Mich.-based Paxton Resources LLC has completed a southern Michigan exploratory test that initially produced 180 bbl. of oil, 70,000 cu. ft. of gas and 10 bbl. of water per day from Trenton. The #1-3 Kibler is located in Section 3-2s-5w, Marengo Township, Calhoun County. Testing occurred in an acidized, openhole Trenton interval at 4,434-39 ft. The new producer is a west offset to West Bay Exploration Co.‘s #5-2 Kilbourn Farm in Section 2-2s-5w. West Bay completed that well in 2008 and it produced 200 bbl. of oil with 65,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from 4,419-29 ft. in an acidized Trenton interval after drilling to 4,150 ft. Paxton Resources’ primary activity is in northern Michigan’s Antrim gas play.

Paxton Resources is also drilling an offset to the company’s first Trenton producer. The #2-3 Kibler, Section 3-2s-5w, Marengo Township, Calhoun County, offsets to the northwest Paxton’s #1-3 Kibler in the same section. That test extended Albion-Scipio 2 South Field west.

Northwest of Albion, Mich., West Bay Exploration Co. of Traverse City has plans to horizontally redrill a well in Trenton. The #1-7-HD1 Rugg is in irregular Section 7-2s-4w, Sheridan Township, Calhoun County. The redrill, West Bay’s first horizontal test in southern Michigan’s Trenton play, will be horizontally drilled northward to a bottomhole location in the same section and is projected to 4,976 ft. The well was originally completed as the #1-7 Rugg in late 2007 and initially produced 200 bbl. of oil and 100,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from Trenton at 4,562-80 ft. Between October 2007 and February 2009, #1-7 Rugg produced 67,830 bbl. of oil, 18.1 million cu. ft. of gas and 2,780 bbl. of water, according to IHS Inc.

West Bay Exploration Co. has set production casing to 4,328 ft. at #1-30 Lantis for a Trenton offset attempt. The well was drilled to 4,348 ft. in Section 30-3s-2e, Napoleon Township, southeastern Jackson County, Mich. The prospect was drilled from the same pad as West Bay’s #1-29 Lantis discovery. That well was drilled to 4,762 ft. and flowed 200 bbl. of 43-degree-gravity oil, 100,000 cu. ft. of gas and 3 bbl. of water per day from a treated Trenton interval at 4,619-24 ft. Formation tops included Utica at 4,003 ft., Trenton at 4,327 ft. and Black River at 4,666 ft. The new producing area, designated Napoleon 3 South Field, is about a mile north of abandoned, one-well Napoleon Field in Section 31-3s-2e. It was discovered in mid-1942 and flowed 75,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from a fractured Antrim interval at 1,340-1,470 ft.

BNK Petroleum U.S. Inc. of Camarillo, Calif., has staked a Black Warrior Basin wildcat in Pickens County, about four miles northeast of Pickensville, Ala. The vertical #30-15 Hickman Farms will be drilled to an undisclosed depth in the Paleozoic. The new venture is in Section 30-20s-16w. Nearby production is in Woolbank Creek Field, about three miles northeast: the #1 J.H. Curry 23-1 flowed 390,000 cu. ft. of coalbed methane and 10 bbl. of water per day through acid- and fracture-treated perforations at 3,924-34 ft. in the Pottsville Coal.

A Paleozoic test has been scheduled by Land & Natural Resources Development at Coal Fire Creek in Pickens County, Ala. The Tuscaloosa, Ala.-based company has a permit for #1 Richardson 21-5 in Section 21-18s-14w. The operator has had some success in the area. The #2 Joe Cook 27-12 was drilled to 4,017 ft. and produced 92,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from Chandler perforations in May 2009. At #1 Deerfield 27-13, 250,000 cu. ft. per day flowed from Fayetteville perforations during February 2009.

Dallas-based Midroc Operating Co. staked a wildcat near Red Level in eastern Alabama‘s Conecuh County, Ala. Midroc plans to vertically drill #23-6 Cedar Creek Land & Timber to 12,500 ft. in Section 23-5n-13e. Nearby activity includes Sklar Exploration Co.‘s #1 Craft-Ralls 33-8 and #1 Craft-Ralls 33-15, both shut in at last report.
