?1 RK Petroleum Corp., with headquarters in Midland, Texas, has moved a rig to a wildcat location 4.5 miles south of Vincennes in southwestern Indiana. Plans call for the #1 Rusch to be drilled in Section 20-2n-10w, western Knox County. Projected depth is 2,600 ft. in Warsaw. The drillsite is about a mile southwest of the closest of three abandoned, noncommercial wells that comprised Purcell Field. The accumulation was discovered in 1981 when a well was drilled to 2,493 ft. and completed in the Hardinsburg at 1,424-30 ft. It pumped 7 bbl. of oil per day.?Later that year, two producers were added in the same section. In 1983, a deeper-pool discovery was reported in nearby Section 31 that pumped 20 bbl. of oil per day through perforations in Cypress at 1,588-94 ft. The field was abandoned after producing less than 800 bbl. of oil.?The nearest Warsaw producers to the new location are almost four miles to the south, in Sisson Consolidated Field.

A directional redrill by Arbor Operating LLC initially flowed 206 bbl. of oil, 207,000 cu. ft. of gas, and 15 bbl. of water per day. The producer is located about seven miles northwest of the town of Buckley, Mich., in Section 3-25n-12w, Grant Township, Grand Traverse County. Arbor’s #1-3A State-Grant & Schmuckal is producing from a treated Niagaran interval at 5,580-5,600 ft. The well was directionally drilled to 5,732 ft., 5,535 ft. true vertical, with a bottomhole location in the same section. The reported bottomhole pressure was 660 psi. Originally completed by West Bay Exploration in 1983, the well pumped 233,102 bbl. of oil and 114.5 million cu. ft. of gas from Niagaran at 5,684-92 ft. until production was halted in 1988. Arbor Operating headquarters are in Traverse City.

In northern Michigan, Core Energy LLC has completed a 6,202-ft. offset to the Charlton 6-30n-1w Field discovery that initially produced 213 bbl. of oil and 3 bbl. of water per day. The #2-6 State-Charlton & Boeve is north of Lewiston, Mich., in Section 6-30n-1w of Otsego County, Charlton Township. Core Energy’s new well produces from two acidized Niagaran intervals at 6,043-49 ft. and 6,052-54 ft. IHS Inc. reports that the bottomhole pressure was 1,186 psi. The top of Niagaran was sampled at 5,702 ft. Core Energy’s headquarters are in Traverse City.

IHS Inc. reports that Breitburn Operating LP has completed a Prairie du Chien (Ordovician) producer in northern Michigan’s Rose City Field, located northwest of Rose City. The #B2-20 State-Foster is in Section 20-24n-2e, Ogemaw County, Foster Township. The well initially produced 96 bbl. of oil, 311,000 cu. ft. of gas and 10 bbl. of water daily on completion in a treated Prairie du Chien interval at 10,640-10,714 ft. Drilled to 10,937 ft., log tops include Glenwood at 10,147 ft. and St. Peter at 10,294 ft. Breitburn is headquartered in Los Angeles.

Breitburn Operating also reports a second completion in its Rose City Field. The #B2-21 State-Foster, Section 21-24n-2e, Ogemaw County, Mich., initially produced 132 bbl. of oil, 500,000 cu. ft. of gas and 10 bbl. of water per day. Production is from five treated Prairie du Chien intervals between 10,658 and 11,152 ft. Total depth of the well is 11,403 ft. and log tops include Glenwood at 10,164 ft., St. Peter at 10,240 ft., Prairie du Chien at 10,281 ft. and Brazos at 11,254 ft.

A remote wildcat completed by Traverse City independent West Bay Exploration Co. is north of Napoleon, Mich. The completion initially flowed 200 bbl. of 43-degree-gravity oil, 100,000 cu. ft. of gas and 3 bbl. of water per day. The #1-29 Lantis et al is in Section 30-3s-2e, Napoleon Township, southeastern Jackson County, and produces from a treated Trenton (Ordovician) interval at 4,619-24 ft. The well was directionally drilled southeastward to a measured total depth of 4,762 ft. with a bottomhole location in Section 29-3s-2e. True vertical total depth was 4,515 ft. and the bottomhole pressure was 1,850 psi.

Targeting New Albany shale, Kentucky USA Energy is working on completion at its #4 Hunter Wells in Haleys Mill Quad, Christian County, Ky. The #4 Hunter Wells was vertically drilled to 2,732 ft. in Dukes Ridge Consolidated Field and is awaiting perforation and fracture treatment in the Dutch Creek formation, which was logged at 2,598-2,610 ft. The company indicates that mud logs and wireline logs show approximately 166 ft. of shale between 2,598 and 2,610 ft. Kentucky USA Energy headquarters are located in London, Ky.

In Muhlenberg County, Ky., Kentucky USA Energy is planning to fracture-stimulate the bottom zone of the Dutch Creek formation at #1 Golden Eagle Farms, in Lone Star Consolidated Field, Haleys Mill Quad, near Bancroft, Ky. It targets New Albany shale. The well was drilled to 2,762 ft. and logged Dutch Creek at 2,600-25 ft. Kentucky Energy USA focuses on New Albany shale discovery and development, and has two other wells in the area that are nearing completion.

Jackson, Miss.-based Pruet Production Co. has staked a vertical wildcat in Section 4-5n-7e in southern Monroe County, Ala. Located east of Frisco City, #1 Odom 4-4 will be drilled to 13,500 ft. in Norphlet. Comparable production is about a mile northeast in Section 33-6n-7e, where the #1 Ruple 33-9 was directionally drilled in 1995. That well flowed 535 bbl. of 59-degree-gravity oil and 1.36 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas per day through Norphlet perforations at 12,386-92 ft.

Unbridled Energy of Calgary, in conjunction with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, will spud a deep test on its acreage around Chautauqua Lake in Chautauqua County, N.Y. Plans are to test several potential gas-bearing formations identified by 2-D seismic in Utica shale, Trenton/Black River, Theresa sandstone, and Potsdam sandstone. Unbridled will take cores and run porosity and permeability well-logging tools during evaluation. The state authority will spend about $1 million, and production rights will be owned by Unbridled for its approximate $600,000 contribution.
At a separate location in Chautauqua County, Unbridled plans to permit and test a 250-ft. Devonian-age shale formation in an existing, depleted Medina well.?Based on tests and estimates, the formation contains more than 380 million cu. ft. of discovered gas resource, net to Unbridled. Depending on results, Unbridled may reenter some of its 67 existing wells, use new stimulation treatments or possibly horizontal drilling to capture resources. The company operates more than 15,000 acres in Chautauqua County.

Atlas Resources has produced 375,000 cu. ft. of gas at its #8 Patterson, in Section B of New Salem Quad, Redstone Township, Fayette County, Pa.
