1 The Meridian Resource & Exploration Co., Houston, brought in a second successful exploration well at its Gato del Sol prospect on its #31 State Lease 18307 in Chandeleur Sound Addition 43, offshore St. Bernard Parish, La., in the Gulf of Mexico. The latest well in the northeast quadrant of the Biloxi Marsh Lands play tested at a rate of 7 million cu. ft. of gas a day through a 23/64-in. choke with 2,025 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The company drilled the well to 7,800 ft. and logged about 65 ft. of net pay in two Cristellaria I sand intervals. The company anticipates starting production in this quarter. Meridian completed a well about two miles south in the same block in May 2005 on its String of Pearls prospect. That well, #1 State Lease 18315, tested at 6.2 million cu. ft. of gas a day. Meridian plans at least three more wells in the area. 2 A repermitted wildcat will continue a drilling campaign in northwestern Chickasaw County, Miss., for Gibraltar Energy Co., El Dorado, Ark., two miles south of the Pontotoc County boundary line. The company's #1 USA "11-15" in Section 11-12s-3e will evaluate oil potential in Devonian to 3,000 ft. The nearest production is 2.25 miles northeast at Gibraltar's Coleville West Field confirmation. That well flowed 165,000 cu. ft. of gas a day through acid-treated Lewis perforations between 2,580-98 ft. The test was run on a 16/64-in. choke with 100 psi of flowing tubing pressure. Gibraltar has at least one additional well planned in the area. 3 Tepee Petroleum Co. Inc., Houston, tested 408 bbl. of oil and 588,000 cu. ft. of gas at its #4 Alta-Blackstone "10" discovery in northern Escambia County, Ala. The Smackover wildcat produced from perforations between 13,874 and 13,906 ft. on a 10/64-in. choke with 2,552 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The well is in Section 10-7n-7e, about a half-mile west of another permitted Tepee well, #2 Alta-Blackstone "10," in the same section. The nearest production in Canaan Church West Field tested at an initial rate of 347 bbl. of oil, 683,000 cu. ft. of gas and nine bbl. of water a day from Smackover perforations. 4 Jordan Development Co. LLC, Traverse City, Mich., permitted #2-26 Milarch horizontal wildcat to Niagaran for a bottomhole location in Section 25-24n-16w in northwestern Manistee County, Mich. The well, which will be drilled from a surface location in Section 26, is about four miles northwest of the town of Bear Lake and two miles east of the Lake Michigan coast. The company estimated the true vertical depth at 4,145 ft. The new well will be in a nonproducing township, with the closest production in Bear Lake 8-23n-15w Field some 4.5 miles southeast. That two-well field produced 330.7 million cu. ft. of gas, 10,185 bbl. of condensate and 2,125 bbl. of water from Brown Niagaran from 1980-98. 5 Independent West Bay Exploration Co., Traverse City, Mich., plans a remote wildcat in a nonproducing township six miles from the nearest production. The #1-20 Reuter, in Section 20-7n-16e in Clyde Township, St. Clair County, Mich., will evaluate both oil and gas in Ordovician Trenton and Black River to 6,000 ft. The nearest production is six miles southwest in Wales 16-6n-15e Field, a Niagaran producer. The closest Black River production is 10 miles south in Rattle Run Field, where the discovery well tested for an initial 264 bbl. of oil. However, that well produced only 537 bbl. of oil between January and July 1990, according to IHS Energy. 6 Western Pipeline Corp., Irving, Texas, permitted its fourth remote wildcat in northern Champaign County, Ill. The #1 Wolken is about two miles south of Rantoul in Section 26-21n-9e and will look at St. Peter sand to 1,400 ft. The company drilled the first well in the series last November about a mile north-northeast, but hasn't released information about that well. All of the tests were scheduled to St. Peter. The nearest production is about 28 miles west-southwest in Deland Field in Piatt County. 7 Remote wildcats planned by Penn Virginia Oil & Gas Corp., Kingsport, Tenn., will look for Trenton pay in northeastern Coles County in the northern Illinois Basin. The #1-27 Swango et al. in Section 27-13n-9e is about a mile north of Charleston, Ill., and #1-34 Litteken et al. in Section 34-14n-9e is about 4.5 miles north. The wells are scheduled to 2,870 ft. and 3,100 ft., respectively. The #1-34 Litteken is almost nine miles west of the closest production in Warenton-Borton Field, a Pennsylvanian pool. 8 Lawrenceville, Ill., independent Pioneer Oil Co. Inc. plans to drill its #1 Swartzentruber wildcat in Section 6-4n-5w 1.5 miles south of the town of Odon in Daviess County in southwestern Indiana. The 2,700-ft. well will evaluate Devonian zones about 0.75-mile south of Odon South Field. Dry holes separate the field from the new tests. Odon South Field has produced some 331,000 bbl. of oil from St. Genevieve at 600 ft. and Salem at 900 ft., but the last reported production was in 2004. A deeper test in the field went to Devonian. That 1999 well apparently found gas but details were not released. 9 MegaEnergy Inc., Englewood, Colo., has scheduled a 10,870-ft. wildcat to evaluate the Black River lime in Tioga County, N.Y.
