1 A completion by Deep Rock Energy Corp. has extended Iola Consolidated Field in Effingham County, Ill., after completing an Upper McClosky well. The #1 Huey is in Section 14-6n-5e and was tested at a daily rate of 206 bbl. of crude with no water. Well production has been reduced to approximately 100 bbl. per day to preserve reservoir integrity. The southern Effingham County test reached a total depth of 2,581 ft. West of this discovery, Deep Rock's planned #2 Huey is permitted to reach a total depth of 3,200 ft. in Salem. Also in Section 14 is the company's #1 P.A. Jansen, with a proposed total depth of 3,200 ft. Nearby activity is in Section 11-6n-53, where MDM Energy's #9 Keller is a proposed 2,600-ft. test targeting McClosky.

2 In Junction East Consolidated Field, Dee Drilling Co. has completed another Aux Vases Sand well. The #14-A Howard Brothers is in Gallatin County, Ill., and was tested pumping 155 bbl. of crude (with no water) from perforations at 2,779-86 ft. The producer is in Section 22-9s-9e and was drilled to 2,900 ft. Dee Drilling has one test under way, #15-A Howard Brothers, and has permitted four additional nearby tests in the field. Dee Drilling is based in Mt. Carmel, Ill.

3 Uniontown, Ky.-based Joseph L. Nally is drilling a horizontal test in Union County, Ky., in an area surrounded by vertical oil wells. The #1A Joseph L. Nally (Ellis) is being drilled in Section 10-Q-19e to a proposed true vertical depth of 2,625 ft. in Cypress Sand. According to IHS Inc., the horizontal test is scheduled to bottom beneath the Ohio River. The new venture is surrounded by wells in Grassy Pond West Field. The most recent well drilled in the field is Joseph L. Nally's #3 J.C. Ellis Estate—tested in 2003, pumping 2 bbl. of crude per day from Upper Cypress Sand at 2,569-78 ft. In nearby Posey County, Ind., two vertical tests were permitted in July 2011 by Pioneer Oil Co. Inc. The #16 Armbruster and #17 Armbruster are in Mount Vernon Consolidated Field and are expected to be drilled to 3,300 ft. in Section 14-7s-14w. Both wells are targeting pays in St. Louis.

4 In western Kentucky, Kelcas Well Services Ltd. of Owensboro, Ky., has scheduled a 1,199-ft. wildcat in Section 11-R-23 of Henderson County. The #1 Gary Eblen is expected to target Pennsylvanian. Nearby activity to the well is several deeper tests drilled in the 1940s. Within one mile of Kelcas' venture are four abandoned 2,500-ft. tests. According to IHS Inc., shallower exploration is about two miles southwest, where #1 Whittington was drilled in 1983 to 925 ft. in Pennsylvanian. Pennsylvanian oil production in Vaughn Consolidated Field is more than two miles west-southwest of Kelcas' venture. Deeper Cypress oil production is a little more than four miles south in Horseshoe Bend Field.

5 Fort Apache Energy Inc. of Houston is drilling a Lovetts Creek Field wildcat in Monroe County, Ala. The #1 Broughton 9-1 is planned to reach 13,600 ft. The vertical Paleozoic drillsite is in Section 9-5n-5e. Smackover production is about two miles east, where #1 W.E. Broughton 11-6 was completed in 1982 flowing 600 bbl. of 32-degree-gravity oil and 5 million cu. ft. of gas per day through acidized perforations at 13,080-13,104 ft. The top of Smackover was logged at 13,082 ft. after drilling to 13,374 ft. Another Smackover producer, #1 McWilliams, in Lovetts Creek Field, by Spooner Petroleum Co., is about one mile southeast: #1 Hoeffner Broughton 35-13 was tested in June 2011 flowing 161 bbl. of 30-degree crude, 142,000 cu. ft. of gas and 32 bbl. of water daily. The well was directionally drilled to 13,150 ft.

6 The Southeastern Oil Review reported that Crosby Creek Oil & Gas has completed a Washington County, Ala., Smackover well flowing 2.86 million cu. ft. of gas and 691 bbl. of 52.8-degree-gravity condensate. The #1 CCGU 34-14 is on the north flank of Crosby Creek Field and was drilled to 18,075 ft. Gauged on a 48/64-in. choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 643 psi and the shut-in tubing pressure was 1,120 psi. Production comes from openhole Smackover perforations at 16,668-18,073 ft. Crosby Creek Oil & Gas is based in Ridgeland, Miss.

7 According to the Southeastern Oil Review, Sklar Exploration Co. completed a Smackover well in Little Cedar Creek Field. The Conecuh County, Ala., discovery, #1 Cedar Creek Land & Timber 35-10, flowed 277 bbl. of 48-degreegravity oil, 190,000 cu. ft. of gas per day with no formation water. The new producer is in Section 35-4n-12e. Gauged on a 21/64-in. choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 50 psi and the gas-to-oil ratio was 5,263 to 1. Production comes from Smackover perforations at 11,799-11,820 ft. after drilling to 12,080 ft. Sklar's headquarters are in Shreveport, La.

8 Savoy Energy LP reported additional production and completion information from its Adrian Field ventures in Lenawee County, Mich. The #5-16 Drogowski,in Section 16-6s-3e, was completed across a Black River interval that extended from 3,682 to 3,710 ft. and was treated with 1,450 gallons of acid through 29 perforations. This well tested flowing 100% oil at 312 bbl. per day with a flowing tubing pressure of 120 psi (no reported choke size). The bottomhole pressure was 1,471 psi at 3,696 ft. The #6-16 Ruesink is in Section 16-6s-3e. Completed as a Black River well, it was treated with 4,500 gallons of acid through perforations from 3,594 ft. to 3,608 ft. The well tested flowing 240 bbl. of oil per day with a flowing tubing pressure of 80 psi (no reported choke size). The bottom-hole pressure was 1,443 psi at 3,601 ft. The #3-22 Thompson is in Section 22-6s-3e and extends the producing area of Adrian Field further southeast. Traverse City, Mich.-based Savoy Energy LP drilled the well to 3,815 ft. and completed it across an interval from 3,304-12 ft. in Trenton. After treatment with 1,350 gallons of acid, the well flowed 144 bbl. of oil per day at a flowing pressure of 80 psi.

9 Paxton Resources LLC is looking to extend Saline Field northeast with a directional test in Washtenaw County, Mich. The #22-B1 Luckhardt is permitted to a proposed depth of 5,104 ft., 3,170 ft. true vertical, in Section 22-4s-5e. Saline Field has a Trenton-Black River reservoir that was discovered in 2009: the #1-27 Cook in Section 27 was originally drilled to 3,420 ft. and is now operated by Paxton. The other Saline Field well, #1-21 Dwyer, also by Paxton, was drilled to 3,500 ft. in 2010 with an output to date of 2,135 bbl. of oil. Paxton's headquarters are in Gaylord, Mich.

10 Gastar Exploration Ltd. completed two horizontal Marcellus wells in Marshall County, W Va. The #1H Wengerd and #7H Wengerd were both horizontally drilled from a common drilling pad in an area surrounded primarily by shallow vertical gas wells. The #1H Wengerd was drilled to 10,673 ft. with a lateral length of 4,700 ft. The #7H Wengerd was drilled to 12,095 ft., with a lateral length of 5,700 ft. According to the Houston-based company, both wells have been tested at a combined stabilized rate of approximately 15.5 million cu. ft. per day of 1,285 Btu gas and 1,100 bbl. of condensate per day. Gastar also reported that each well had approximately 1,200 psi of flowing casing pressure and was producing more than 150 bbl. of fracture fluid water per hour. Gastar owns a 44.5% working interest and 37.5% net revenue interest in these wells. The company has permitted numerous other horizontal tests from the Wengerd lease drilling pad.
