?1 A Floyd Shale discovery was made in Alabama’s eastern Tuscaloosa County in the Black Warrior Basin. Brookwood, Ala.-based Jim Walter Resources Inc. completed #2 JWR 28-05 in Section 28-20s-7w. The well was tested flowing 80,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,100 bbl. of water per day from perforations at 5,726 to 7,187 ft. The discovery is surrounded by coalbed-methane production in the Brookwood coal-degas field.?Nearest Mississippian recovery is more than 20 miles northwest in Wiley Dome Field. The reservoir also produces from Ordovician and has yielded 438.52 million cu. ft. of gas, 670 bbl. of condensate and 5,432 bbl. of water since 2004, according to IHS Inc.

2 Sklar Exploration Co. LLC, Shreveport, La., completed a Smackover discovery in Escambia County, Ala. The well was tested pumping 47-gravity oil at a rate of 21 bbl. per day, with 57 bbl. of water. The #1 Logan 5-7 is in Section 5-3n-13e. Little Cedar Creek Field is about seven miles north-northwest of the new site. Opened in 1994, it has produced 4.9 million bbl. of oil, 4.26 billion cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 13,943 bbl. of water from Smackover.

3 The #1-1 Boardman in Michigan has produced positive results for Continental Resources Inc., based in Enid, Okla. The well is in Section 1-7s-2w in the company’s Trenton/ Black River field in Jefferson Township, Hillsdale County. It was drilled to a total depth of 4,010 ft. and encountered 190 ft. of net pay. Continental has 83% working interest. Continental recently discovered Albion-Scipio 6S Field and has three producing wells in the field: #1-36 McArthur, #1-1 Anspaugh and #1-6 Wessel. The three currently make 650 bbl. of oil per day, a state-restricted rate.

4 Traverse City, Mich.-based Aurora Energy Ltd. has scheduled a pair of 3,400-ft. wildcats for Michigan’s Allegan County. The #C3-1 Jackson is in Section 1-3n-11w, Wayland Township, Section 1, about 4.6 miles east of the town of Wayland. Wayland Field produces from Salina approximately 2.5 miles east of the proposed well. The #D2-1 Jackson will be drilled less than 0.5 mile west of #C3-1.

5 Shreveport, La.-based Brammer Engineering Inc. plans to drill a 10,700-ft. Prairie du Chien wildcat in Ogemaw County, Mich. The #1-8 State-Klacking is staked in Section 8-23n-2e, Klacking Township. It’s 2.5 miles south of Devonian Richfield and Detroit River oil production above 5,000 ft. on the southern flank of Rose City Field.

6 Midland, Texas-based independent RK Petroleum Corp. plans to drill #2 Jess in Section 36-10n-7e about six miles southeast of Neoga in western Cumberland County, Ill. The well is to evaluate Silurian with a total depth of 3,800 ft. One-well Rosalyn West Field is the nearest production, about 2.5 miles southwest. Discovered in 1992, #2-10 McClain produced 21,000 bbl. of oil before it was abandoned in 2006. Neoga Field is more than four miles west of the RK venture. There, #1 Foster Walk was tested in 1983 producing seven bbl. of oil per day from Carper. The prospect was abandoned with no attempt to confirm it. The nearest active producers are about five miles southwest. Discovered in 1974, seven-well Lillyville North Field has yielded 204,000 bbl. of oil from Rosiclare, McClosky, Salem and Geneva.

7 RK Petroleum Corp., Midland, Texas, has scheduled a wildcat in southwestern Indiana almost six miles northwest of the town of Patoka. The 2,300-ft. #F Newton Farms will evaluate McClosky in Section 28-1n-11w, southwestern Knox County. The well is less than a mile south of the closest previous production, in Little Rock Field, but it is separated from the field by dry holes, according to IHS Inc. Little Rock Field was opened in 1980 and produced 10,744 bbl. of oil before it was abandoned in 1985. About 1.5 miles southeast, Orrville Field produced 27,000 bbl. of oil from Salem from 1979 through 1988.

8 Akron, Ohio-based First Energy Generation Corp. has scheduled an 8,250-ft. wildcat for Ohio’s Belmont County. The #1 MRCSP-Fegenco is Businessburg Quad, Section 35, about 1.4 miles southwest of the town of Moundsville, W.Va. The wildcat will target Clinton sand. An unnamed field produces from Berea about 6.4 miles southwest of the proposed site.

9 Great Lakes Energy Part­ners LLC, a unit of Range Resources Corp., Fort Worth, Texas, plans to drill a 5,900-ft. wildcat in Ohio’s Columbiana County. The #1-K Sowards Unit will look for oil and gas in Lockport West Point Quad, Section 31, approximately 3.8 miles south of Lisbon. McCormick Run Field produces from Big Lime about 3.1 miles southeast of the proposed site.

10 A wildcat has been slated for Broome County, N.Y., in Section E, Bradford Quad, Orange Township, about 10 miles north of the town of Painted Post. Talisman Energy Inc. subsidiary Fortuna Energy Inc. will target gas with its #1 Towner. Sugar Hill Field produces from an unknown formation approximately 2.8 miles northeast of the new venture. Talisman is based in Calgary.

11 Chesapeake Appalachia LLC, a unit of Ches­apeake Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, plans to drill its #1 (626470) Stage in Section A, Wellsburg Quad, Baldwin Township, Chemung County, N.Y. The 13,000-ft. wildcat will target gas in Black River lime. The nearest Black River recovery is from an unnamed field approximately 1.6 miles north.
Additionally, about five miles southeast of Towanda in northeastern Pennsylvania, the company plans its #1 Chancellor. The horizontal wildcat will be drilled to a total measured depth of 9,422 ft. Surface location is Asylum Township, Wyalusing Quad, Bradford County.
The area is a little more than eight miles southwest of an indicated discovery drilled earlier this year by Southwestern Energy Co., Houston, at #1 Greenzweig in Herrick Township, Raysville Quad. According to IHS Inc., that well was completed as a gas discovery in Devonian but no completion details have been disclosed. It targeted Marcellus shale.

12 Aztec Oil & Gas Inc., Houston, has participated in two gas wells in Tyler County, W.Va. The #1 and #2 Williams each reached a depth of about 5,000 ft. The wells, operated by Sancho Oil & Gas, St. Mary’s, W.Va., are scheduled for completion. They are in Meade District, Middlebourne Quad. No additional details are currently available.

13 Chesapeake Energy Corp. business unit Chesapeake Appalachia LLC has scheduled a pair of wildcats for Virginia’s Buchanan County. The #826642 Buchanan Energy LLC will target gas in an Upper Devonian series in Knox District, Hurley Quad, approximately 10.6 miles southeast of Phelps, Ky. Upper Devonian production is 1.1 miles northeast in an unnamed field. The #825683 (PPN-47) Buchanan Energy Co. LLC will be drilled to a depth of 5,295 ft. to evaluate gas in Onondaga lime. The well is also in Knox District, Panther Quad, about 1.3 miles south of an unnamed field that produces from Berea. It is 6.9 miles southwest of Gilbert Creek, W.Va.

14 Breeding, Ky.-based Hayden R. Blackwell will drill #1 Hayden Blackwell in Section 8-f-50e in Adair County, Ky. The 1,500-ft. wildcat will target oil in Murfreesboro lime in Breeding Quad, about 2.3 miles southwest of Gradyville Field, which produces from Corniferous. The venture is about 10.2 miles southwest of the town of Columbia.

15 A 6,530-ft. Knox wildcat is slated for Roane County, Tenn., by Miami-based Wind Mill Oil & Gas LLC. The #1 Edwards-Gann, in Section 11-7s-61e, Elverton Quad, wildcat is about 8.4 miles northeast of the town of Kingston. Stone River recovery comes from an unnamed field about 2.1 miles northeast of the new site.
