Description

IHS Markit reported that Pioneer Oil Co. has staked a Devonian wildcat in Hamilton County, Ill. Located in Section 34-5s-7e in the eastern portion of the county, #1 Atteberry will be drilled to 5,200 ft. The Illinois Basin venture is targeting Grand Tower (Middle Devonian) oil pay. Nearby production is to the northeast at a 596-ft test that was drilled in the 1930s. A deeper wildcat to the southwest was drilled in 1992 at #1 Dolan, which was abandoned at 3,470 ft in Fredonia Lime. McClosky Lime oil production in Hoodville East Field is about 2 miles to the west. Nearby Devonian oil production is about 8 miles to the southwest in Walpole Field. The most recent completion in Walpole Field occurred in 2015. Pioneer Oil’s headquarters are in Lawrenceville, Ill.
