WPX Energy Inc. (NYSE: WPX) appointed Karl F. Kurz to its board of directors, where he will serve on its nominating and governance committee, it said Jan. 8.
“Karl’s background in exploration, production, reservoir engineering and marketing complements the depth of energy and financial experience we have on our board,” William G. Lowrie, chairman of the board, said.
“He joins WPX at a strategic time as we work to grow this company in an enterprising way that capitalizes on the great positions we have in natural gas, crude oil and natural gas liquids,” Lowrie added.
Most recently, prior to joining WPX, Kurz was managing director and co-head of the energy group at CCMP Capital Advisors LLC, as well as a member of its investment committee, WPX said. Kurz was previously Anadarko Petroleum Corp.’s (NYSE: APC) chief operating officer, the company added.
He has served on the boards of the American Petroleum Institute, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the Natural Gas Supply Association and Western Gas Partners LP, the company said.
Kurz has a BS degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University. He is also a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management program, the company said.
WPX Energy is an oil and gas E&P company based in Tulsa. It has Piceance Basin, Three Forks, San Juan Basin, Powder River Basin and Marcellus operations.
